When I bought my laptop, I usually delete all the extra's stuff that is installed on it. When I came to the Slingbox icon, I decided to see what it was about. I went to the web page and liked what I saw and decided to buy it. When I deployed to Iraq this past spring, I didn't get the box because the majority of the things I see that says "watch any where or use any where" it is usually for businessmen going in and out of the country for a few days.
Well when i came home for R&R, I decided I'm going to try it out and if it don't work over here, then at least I can use it for road trips. The minute I got back in country, I tried it, there was a problem with the connection, the first thing that came to my head was "I knew it, just like anything else that states it works anywhere, well it didn't" So when i got back to my actual living area, I tried it again, and man I was like a kid in the candy store!
I no longer had to watch AFN (Armed Forces Network) at all!!! I was watching television from the states in Iraq!
The only draw back and I say again, the only draw back is the internet connection. At certain times of the day, the buffing is real slow, the video is choppy, but once it is on, it is on!
So, to all my brothers and sisters in arms, deployed or not, or if your family members that want to get you something in your "care" package, I highly recommend you tell them to get the Slingbox, or before you deploy or PCS overseas, purchase the Slingbox. You won't regret it!
They sell two types, get the one with the built in tuner, if not, you and your wife/husband will be fighting over witch show you are watching :)
(By the way, I am not getting a dime from this company at all, this is my way of "word of mouth" and endorsing a good product, the US Military has nothing to do with this or the Slingbox company.)

The slingbox is a nice little toy. The quality of the video is OK not HD that is for sure. The reason I gave it 1 stare is the support you get after you buy it. After 90 days they want to charge you for help. You can go to their website for help but it is very limited. After having the HD slingbox for a time I got a phone that I could get my slingbox to play on. I purchased the software for the phone and downloaded it to my phone. I could not get it to work and could not find any help on the slingbox website, because the sligbox was more then 90 days old, I was told I would have to buy support help at either a Pay Per Incident Support for $29.99 or Sling Media Extended Care at $49.99. I think any company that charges $299.00 for the box $50.00 for the HD cable and 29.99 for the software to work on a phone and only gives you support for their product for 90 days should be ashamed of them selves. Do not buy a slingbox until they drop the support charges.

worked great until i installed a new router at home and it wouldnt recognize the slingbox. tried to contact sling media for help and they wanted 30 dollars just to talk to me because i have owned it for over a year, now i have a paperweight.Customer Review: Beware of this device

Is this device a cool concept? Yes. Is it worth the resounding headache? No.
I can't tell you the number of issues I've had with this thing. Configuring it is a joke. I'm pretty good at these things but can't tell you the problems. Their techs have been on the phone with me so many times stumped its ridiculous.
You may be lucky - your router might sync nice with this and you may have a cable box or satellite box that is listed. Otherwise, get ready for hell. Maybe you move, your router dies or you upgrade your modem - start the process over and pray it syncs easily. I bought a very popular directv box and spent forever trying to find the remote code. Then the router wasn't one of the options to configure.
GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. You will need it. Otherwise, its $30 every time there is an issue.
$30 if your phone stops connecting, $30 if you replace routers and they don't have it listed, etc, etc.
One more thing - DO NOT MOVE THIS DEVICE AROUND. It is built very cheap and things are easily broken. The IR sensors stopped working and I only moved the box 1 time to a different part of the room. I'm not sure if they just wore out or if moving it around dislocated something.
In explaining my frustrations and asking nicely for them to comp one of my $30 tech assistance fees I was hung up on. I mean really, that's how you're trained to get out of a situation with a customer. I guess they figured the next call would be simpler - could always blame it on a bad connection I guess.

I have a Slingbox Pro and after upgrading to the new SlingPlayer 2.x I have lost my ability to view or turn on the virtual remote. Worked great until the update, never since. I keep checking back on the site for news of a fix, and Sling continues to disappoint. I can now only watch one channel - and while the picture is great and the new player is very nice, it is not worth the loss of all of my other channels. This seems to be a very long running issue that Sling has proven unable or unwilling to fix. They caused the issue with poor updates/firmware and no ability to roll back to the previous, functioning application. I loved my Slingbox when it was working, but I can't imagine recommending it to anyone, or ever buying another product from them until they have proven they can fix this one. I am not holding my breath.
