Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sling Media Slingbox AV (SB240-100)Customer Review: Sling Box Blows Me Away Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased the Sling Box AV and it works terrific. I'm a CPA and work in my office at home quite a bit and wanted a TV in the office. After I heard about the Sling Box, I checked it out and bought it. It saves me space, has a great picture and doesn't have a monthly fee. Installation of the hardware was easy and the software was too, except I took a wrong turn at one of the steps and needed technical support, which was excellent. The first time I received a picture, I was blown away by the quality. And I love the features. I can change channels from my computer using the on screen remote and I can dock the picture to the left or right or have a full screen. I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Nice little gadget Summary: 5 Stars
My cell phone uses EVDO so I can connect to the Slingbox just about anywhere and watch tv. I can also control my DirecTV set box which means I can change the channels, access the show guide or set the Tivo to record. At home, I can watch the tv from my computer. The resolution is pretty good and the sound is loud and clear. The setup was pretty easy, but if you don't have an ethernet connection near the Slingbox I would suggest that you get a Powerline adapter. Using a wireless bridge is difficult for most people to try and set up. The Powerline adapter is literally plug and play. And thanks to Amazon I got my Slingbox for a lot less than anywhere on the Internet including Ebay.
Customer Review: Good bang for the buck Summary: 4 Stars
It was easy for me to set it up. Initially I had a port problem, so I called Sling for help. The phone wait was short and the tech got me hooked up in a few minutes.
It definitely does what it says it does-transfers your cable TV signal to any computer (with an internet connection). I've had no trouble getting all my myriad stations.
The only con is that you can't believe the hype about picture quality. It is decent but not great by any means.
There is few second response delay when using the 'remote' control.
Minor quibbles...
Overall I love having this on my laptop at work or when traveling. It was the best $100 I've spent in a long time.
Customer Review: Good as it's billed Summary: 5 Stars
For 120 bucks, you can watch your DVR on your computer anywhere there's an internet connection. That means live, local TV or anything you recorded. It means you can set it for a program if you're away. It works over your computer just like your home DVR, with a computer image of your remote.
The customer service was outstanding. Setting up, I was having problems with my router communicating with my Slingbox. So, I went on "chat" with customer service. I allowed her to "take over" my desktop remotely. (That might scare off some people, but I assume Slingbox bonds their CSRs.)She set my Linksys to my Slingbox in minutes while I watched. Amazing. So is this device.
Customer Review: Fantastic device for busy people Summary: 5 Stars
This slingbox is fantastic! I use it on both Mac OS X and Windows XP and it works seamlessly with both. It is able to stream live TV effortlessly to laptop, desktop and my Treo 700W (Verizon). I use this primarily while on call at the hospital because the hospital cable doesn't carry a lot of sports stations, but I can also use it to watch movies on HBO, recordings from my DVR, etc. Setup was very easy, but I would recommend setting up the port forwarding manually instead of relying on UPnP (this is very easy to do and the software walks you through it!) to prevent your router from dropping the connection on occasion. I would recommend this device to anyone.
