Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Skullcandy Smokin Bud In Ear S2SBBR-BZ (Black Rubberized)Customer Review: Good sound, not entirely durable.. Summary: 3 Stars
I've now had two identical pairs of these skull candy earbuds... Each pair was initially very impressive--good sound quality, especially considering the price, with durable and comfortable plastic ear pieces. But the downside was the same for each--after 3 or 4 months, I began to notice that my walking or bouncing my leg would cause the sound to go in and out of one of the earbuds, then, a week later, the sound became essentially irretrievable.
Now perhaps my wrapping the cord of the earbuds around my iPod for storage was in part detrimental to the wiring, but I've used other earbuds with which I stored in the same exact manner, and I never had that problem. In short, this product boasts good sound quality, but is not at all as durable as I'd expect out of a pair of earbuds. Surely there are better earbuds at comparable price.
Customer Review: Love these headphones Summary: 5 Stars
These are great, inexpensive headphones. When the stock headphones from my ipod started falling apart the Smokin' Buds were what I purchased to replace them. I was hoping to get something that were as good as what I had before without breaking the bank. I was thrilled when this product turned out to be better in almost every way possible. They output more sound, they are built to isolate sound so they drown out background noise when I fly or work out, they are comfortable to wear and they don't fall out of my ears when I work out (which my ipod headphones would always do). Overall, everything that I needed them to be... they were!
If you are an audiophile then I would recommend that you keep searching, but for those looking for a good pair of headphones that don't cost too much I think you will be happy purchasing these.
Customer Review: Excellent, But I Prefer These Other Skullcandy Earbuds Summary: 5 Stars
At a certain point, personal taste overrides other product performance issues. I have these Smokin' Buds which I thought would be better than the cheaper Ink'd edition from Skullcandy:
Skullcandy INK'd Earbuds S2INCZ-033 (Black/Black)
I thought they would be better because (LOL) the copy editors from Skullcandy made them sound better, and they cost more.
But guess what?
Skullcandy Ink'd remain my favorites. And I DO have a couple of mid-end earbuds too, Skullcandy just offers incredible value with the Ink'd.
In terms of sound quality, the Smokin' Buds seem a lot like my Griffin Ear Thumps - more bass, but slightly muffled mid range. The Ink'd are "clearer" to my ears.
Customer Review: Don't Bother Summary: 2 Stars
I bought these at radio shack for $10/pair and I can't even say they were worth that. I bought two pairs and good thing I did. I went on vacation with these and like most people, when I'm done listening to music on my ipod I wrap my headphones around my ipod and put it away. DO NOT do that with these headphones. The wires separated from the base within 2 weeks.
Moving on to pair 2. I started using these when I got back from my trip and knew better than to wrap them around my ipod when I was done with them. I started trying to take better care of them and did all I could to make these last. The second pair crapped out on me today. I have to have the wires at a specific bend to get sound in both ears. No breaks in the rubber anywhere, must be inside. Needless to say, I'm never buying from skullcandy again.
Customer Review: Average Earphones Summary: 3 Stars
After reading reviews and finding the only negative apparently being giant ear canals of one customer, I decided to give them a try. (I see what Giant Ear Canal means, by the way...they DO tend to fall out...but just play with the different sizes of "earpieces" they include; that solved my problem. I use the medium size on the left side and the large size on the right, but this is missing the point). The SOUND QUALITY is no better than the $15 JVC pair I bought at Wal-Mart.
Oh, and the volume slider is OK, but I have to take one earpiece to hear when people talk ANYway, so that feature was not a plus for me.
In my opinion, the Smokin' Buds company simply tries to appeal to the stoner crowd while charging twice the price. Save your dough and go with a real name-brand product.
Thanks for listening-
