Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Skullcandy Smokin Bud In Ear S2SBBR-BZ (Black Rubberized)Customer Review: First earbuds that don't hurt my ears Summary: 4 Stars
I had given up with earbuds altogether. Owing I guess to small ears, earbuds were simply painful to wear. I could handle about 20 minutes of music before I had to simply quit - they literally made my ears ache. The standard ipod ones were some of the worst. Skullcandy's Smokin' Buds to the rescue. Using the smallest of the rubber adapters provided, I found I could comfortably wear them for long periods without any discomfort. They fit nicely in my ear canal, provide a good seal that emliminates a great deal of ambient noise, and overall sound good. They are stylish and very compact. There are only two drawbacks - the cord and the bass. The cord is flat and very light, like a rubber linguine noodle, and it has a tendency to be springy and can sometimes rub against your face or bunch up. It's simply not heavy enough to fall like a standard cord. It's a very minor issue however and I supposed the upside is that there's less weight on your ears. The real and only significant problem is the lack of bass. Even for earbuds the bass on these is pretty lacking. I compensated a bit by changing the equalizer settings on my ipod, but don't expect deep base. Still, these earbuds are a Godsend for someone like me that wanted to enjoy the ease of using compact earbuds like everyone else. I would definitely purchase them again and highly recommend the product.
Customer Review: The Rise and Fall of Ear Buds Summary: 2 Stars
I have to agree with much of what the other reviewers wrote. I too purchased a pair of these ear buds mainly for running, working out at the gym, and some minimal everyday use. I mainly used them with my IPod Nano, but occasionally with my computer as well.
The sound quality, although not the best I have experienced in ear buds, is satisfactory. They were comfortable, especially after using an appropriate cushion size for my ears. They did easily slip out of my ears. This was particularly annoying when running, but I would wrap part of the cord around my ear to form a more secure connection. I was initially happy with these.
Considering the amount I spent on them, I was careful with them. I did not use them in the rain and stowed them in a place where they would not be subject to shock or accidents. Then one of the channels started to fail. Sound would intermittently go off and cycling wildly when I ran or walked. Eventually that channel failed completely. Less than a month after the first one failed, the second one soon followed.
I paid a little over 30 dollars for these and got just under six months of use out of them. That comes to about five dollars a month, a little over a dollar a week.
I will not be buying any Skullcandy ear buds again.
Customer Review: Second times a charm Summary: 5 Stars
The first set of these I bought were defective, I now know that. I had no choice so I bought me another pair and they lasted me way over a year. I work in an industrial plant, so these earbuds are abused big time. I use these with my 120GB iPod. The sound is wonderful. Sweet bass. Great treble. No real midrange but I'm not complaining. I listen to bands like Ayria, Pzychobitch, S.I.N.A, KMFDM, etc., I don't know if other genres or styles of music sound as good with these buds. I'm guessing they do sound good.
These earbuds come with 3 diffent sizes of silicon gel tips. Neither worked for me. I had to use some from an old pair of buds that these were to replace. The big gels were too big and the medium ones were too small, that's just me though. After a year and one month the sound deminished from the right side. I had to turn up the volume all the way to be able to hear a fair sound. The next thing to go was the 3.5mm plug. The area were the plug and wire connect got a lot of bending from being in my pocket so they finally gave out and I had to toss them out. These are great earbuds for the price. I'm going to buy me another pair for backups.
Customer Review: Fit decently...until they broke a week after buying. Summary: 1 Stars
I did the stupid thing bu going with flashiness over substance, and I payed the price for it. As with most Skullcandy stuff, you'll get a lot of pizzazz and not too much else. This pair of headphones seemed to fit my funny-shaped ears pretty well out of the box, but as soon as I put them onto my iPod they were terrible. The bass was overbearing to the max and the mids and highs were terribly out of whack - just imagine one of those OG Cadillacs with the window-rattling, bowel-shaking subs in the back that disturbs your peace, terrifies your cats, breaks all of your fine china and leaves you with cracks in your foundation - it's kinda like that. Moreover, the cord is extraordinarily short, and broke while I was attempting to *gasp* move. The slightest jerk broke the input from the cord, thus completing the pathetic circle that was my final experience with Skullcandy. If you only care about looks and tons of obnoxious, noxious bass, get these...all of your soon-to-be-deaf friends will go out and buy them because they're "OMFG so awesome!" If you really care about your listening quality and want buds that last more than, say, four days, buy something else, anything else!
Customer Review: Best earbud on market Summary: 5 Stars
I use these earbuds for going to the gym. I have been using headphones at the gym for 20 years both lifting free weight, cables, iso machines and several aerobic cardio machines not to meention running outside when weather permits in Syracuse. All of 10 days in a good year. These are the best sounding headphones for the money. I have tried and used probably 20 different sets of headphones and my favorites are the Bose Quiet Comfort but at $300.00 they should sound better. I also have a pair of BeyerDynamics that sound great but quite frankly I bought these at someones suggestion figuring if they suck I was only out $30.00. I was floored by the overall sound and the bass response. In fact when I travel I leave the Bose at home and bring these. They are great on a plane or crowded venue when you want to keep outside noise out. They are perfect for the travelling soldier as I am in Iraq now. I have given these as gifts to several friends who swear by them. If fit is a problem then try the other sizers that come with it. Dollar for dollar you will not find a better way to listen to music or a TV show or DVD on your computer.
