Customer Review: Great earphone for the $$!!!!

I bought these earphones to use with my ipod. I hated the stock earphones due to excessive background sounds interfering with listening to music. I had to jack up the volume to nearly full on just to hear the music! The stock phones also had a tendency to fall out of my ears, so I needed something that would stay in place, especially at the gym. I've had these earphones for a couple months now. I love them. They were recommended to me by my niece. She's really hard on her earphones and got these due to the lifetime warranty. I haven't had any problems with mine personally. She's had hers replaced by the company about 4 or 5 times. It takes some time (4-6 weeks) but they do replace defective earphones.
Sound Quality: I've read a few reviews and I'm quite shocked that anyone would criticize the sound quality for these earphones. First of all, for under $20 I'm not sure what people expect. The sound quality is AWESOME considering the price point of these earphones. REMEMBER, you are paying under $20 for these things. If you would like to feel like you are at a concert while listening to headphones, you probably need to invest a bit more. Having said that, the sound quality of these earphones is great for the average user who just wants to hear the music. For those of you who want to hear up to 20000 Hz or need to hear a crazy booming bass, don't buy these. There are awesome, pricier, headphones for that. For tooling around the gym or flying, these are the earphones you need.
Background sound isolation: I'm an audiologist, so I know a lot about using earplugs and noise reduction. Let me tell you, these earphones rock at blocking out background noise. I used them while flying and you can hardly hear the plane noise. They are almost as good as earplugs at blocking out sound. They are so effective, that you cannot really hear conversation when they are in, even if you don't have any music playing. Due to the excellent blockage of background sounds, these are not the earphones to use for jogging outside, riding a bike, etc., mainly due to safety concerns. With the degree of sound isolation plus music playing, I don't believe that you'd be able to hear a car, siren, stalker, or other things that you should be aware of while biking or jogging. However, these are great for the gym or flying or other situations where you want to block out the background. An additional plus is that with all that sound isolation, you don't need to turn up your tunes quite so loud, saving your ears from damaging listening volumes. (That's the audiologist in me)
Fit: These come with 3 sizes of gels for a semi-custom fit. I wore the medium ones for quite a while; however I found them uncomfortable after about an hour of use and the right one kept working out of my ear, especially at the gym. The large were way too big for my ears and the small did not block out the sound as much as I wanted them to. They do make foam tips for these and I've had those for a couple days now. The foam tips are awesome. They are much more comfortable and don't work out of my ear canal as easily. I don't believe that everyone would need to switch to the foam tips, but for me they have been a real improvement. If you have any problem with the fit of the gel tips or they are uncomfortable at all, try the comply foam tips. You can buy them online at the skull candy website for around $9. (There was free shipping too). Make sure you get the correct ones for the earphones that you have. I haven't had mine long, so I'm not sure how long each tip lasts, but you get a pack with three sets and they're all one size.
Overall this is a great earphone for the price. Highly recommended for average users.
