SIRIUS Stiletto 2 Portable Satellite Radio with MP3 Player
Heynow! Look, I read all the reviews before purchasing this item, so I had an idea of how I would use it. I record Stern replays and listen at work. I did have to buy a home dock in order to record Sat. transmissions ($40-50) locally. OK no problems, so far... It won't record WIFI transmissions, but I knew that from previous reviews...

I get great signal outdoors without the included antenna headset, which is very uncomfortable, but I don't need it so whatever...

The device software upgrades will load automatically after streaming WIFI for a few hours...

One other thing that might not be obvious, nor stated anywhere is that the included music-management software is not MAC compatible...

The battery life is actually impressive, but its new so we'll see how the battery holds up over time. I have not needed to expand the memory yet either. I have not used as a MP3 drive/player.

To all the reviewers who don't read the instructions - don't expect to get a signal without a clear view of the southern sky. If you spent $450+ for this or think it will work indoors, i sympathize.

Take care,
Dan

Customer Review: Great Idea, lacking delivery
Summary: 3 Stars

Reception outside is really not great unless you wear the satellite headphones; but, the headphones don't sound great and are very uncomfortable. Thus, I don't want to use this outside. Also, do be honest, the quality of the sound via satellite is not great.

Inside, at home I have been able to hook up with the WIFI which sounds much better than the satellite quality. I really like listening at home by WIFI.

I took it to work and it just won't connect properly to my WIFI. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. It's frustrating when I am wasting time at work, trying to get a proper WIFI signal.

I bought the dock to try to get satellite reception. The dock wouldn't work even though I have a big window in my office.

I decided to go back to trying to get a good WIFI signal at my office. I called Sirius several times. Twice, they put me on hold endlessly and never picked the phone back up. I finally spoke with someone today and they told me that I should speak with my Internet provider.

All in all, if this thing worked how it should, it would be absolutely awesome. At this point, I am thinking about stopping my service; but, since it usually works on the WIFI at home, I think I'll keep it. I agree with some of the other reviewers: this product is not up to par.

Customer Review: Exactly what I've been looking for
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm an avid talk radio listener and frequent traveler, and have not been able to find a media player I truly enjoyed until the Sirius Stiletto came along. I know a lot of people take pleasure in setting up perfect playlists for moods or situations, but I don't like planning out my entertainment ahead of time.

If it was only a radio, though (even an excellent satellite/internet radio like this one), it still wouldn't work for me because I'm frequently stuck on planes or other areas where I can't get reception. For times like these, being able to preload it with podcasts, music files, or "radio replays" (extended recordings of a satellite channel) is invaluable.

I haven't had any signal problems, either driving or at home, and I have connected to a couple of WPA-enabled wifi networks seamlessly. The headphones are comfortable, although I use my regular noise-canceling ones whenever I don't need the signal enhancement.

The Stiletto, with it's limited storage capacity, might not appeal to someone who is in love with their iPod, but for someone like myself that really enjoys the immediacy and unpredictability of radio it really takes portable media players to the next level.

Customer Review: Not flawless but pretty close...

After seeing this product several times but avoiding it because of the issues I have heard of its predecessors I finally made the plunge. My Sportster was dying and instead of going the cheap route of Sirius sending me a free base unit I decided to get the Stiletto 2 for the options.

It really is my favorite gadget and has easily replaced my Ipod as the portable audio device. I can now store MP3s and access live content. The best features I have found are the recording options. You can record individual songs for later playback or you can program to record at specific times, also the unit records a channel after 15 minutes of steady listening for what it dubs radio replays. This is great because if you can't get a signal via satellite or wifi you still have access to programming without making the effort to record.

It does have some flaws though. The battery cover I've found has a tendency to slide off. The sports ticker is very cool but it doesn't provide much information besides the score. It would be great to have stats or other pertinent information, hopefully they can add this in a firmware update.

Other then that I can not recommend this device more.

Customer Review: Would be great if it continued to work

I won't go into all the features and limitations of the Stiletto 2 because that's been done in other reviews. I will say that this is my second Stiletto (had the Stiletto 100 previously) that has started to fail in less than 1 year. My recordings now regularly get deleted - sometimes while I'm in the middle of listening to them. I put it in the home dock every night to record the Howard Stern show, and never know if it will just decide not to record, only record a portion of it, or mysteriously delete all previous days' recordings that I haven't listened to yet. It's become so unreliable that I've decided to cancel my service - I just can't see spending money on another piece of hardware.

Sadly, when I called Sirius technical support about this, they claimed to have no reports of the problems I'm having. But all you need to do is search on the internet for "Sirius stiletto deletes recordings" and you can find plenty of people complaining about the same problem.

Shame on you, Sirius. My predicition is that this company will eventually be gone, not because of the quality of the stations (that part is great) but because of all the problems with the hardware.
