Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SIRIUS Stiletto 2 Portable Satellite Radio with MP3 PlayerCustomer Review: This piece of trash is great Summary: 4 Stars
I'll get right to the explanation.
I use this device to listen/record the Howard Stern Show which is by far the best show on radio. Now for the bullet points.
Do not use the headphone/antenna. It's useless.
Get the home charging kit/cradle which allows you to attach an external antenna. I installed the antenna at work.
Record the shows from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from the charging base.
Now this is very important. After recording the show, shut down (reboot) the Stiletto and power it back up. If you don't do this, the device will freeze, especially if you have more than 3 shows recorded. Believe me, I've had this device since it first came out.
I use an auxiliary cable to listen to the show in my car. In addition, I use regular headphones or earbuds when I'm out and about.
The cool thing is that you can fast forward all of the commercials. In addition, you can rewind and replay the shows.
The wifi works well too if you don't want to record shows. You don't have to shut down the Stiletto if you're not recording.
The charging base also has a port where you can attach an auxiliary cable to it if you want to listen to the show on a regular radio with inputs.
I hope this helps.
If anyone knows if the Sirius Iphone app can record shows, please let me know. Thanks
Customer Review: My iPod is starting to gather dust. Summary: 5 Stars
Since I have a very basic understanding of satellite technology, I knew I was probably going to get little to no reception if I tried to use this product indoors, so I can't say I was shocked or angry when that turned out to be the case. You can pretty much forget about listening to live radio when using this radio at home, in the office, at the gym, or anywhere with a roof over your head unless you have accessories such as the home kit or the portable boombox, or if you subscribe to the internet radio service. Luckily, I already had a home kit and portable boombox for my Starmate 4 radio and they both work great with the Stiletto.
The feature I was most looking forward to using on the Stiletto was the recording feature. It definitely didn't disappoint. It's basically like having Tivo for your radio. You can record individual songs and several hours of programming to play back whenever you want. Since I listen to the radio at work every day, I just attach it to my Sirius portable boombox at night and program it to record my favorite shows and music, and have several hours of stuff to listen to each day. It allows me to catch a lot of great stuff that I would have otherwise missed. The recording feature definitely helps you get the most of satellite radio.
All in all, I am extremely happy with this radio. Just be forewarned that to get any sort of reception indoors, you'll have to buy extra accessories.
Customer Review: Overpriced, lousy signal, cant record on WIFI, horrible "support" Summary: 2 Stars
Let me start by saying I am a fan of Sirius. I have been a subscriber for three years now. However, I am frustrated with how much money I sunk into this product. The Stiletto itself cant cost more then $20 to make yet it retails for several hundred! You have to purchase a home kit and car kit if you want to be able to listen through speakers at home or in the car. You have to purchase more than one home kits if you want to listen in different rooms in your home. You have to purchase a bypass for your vehicle if you want to be able to HEAR it since Sirius can't emit strong enough signals by law (customer service verified this). Then of course you need a case to protect it and a separate band if you want the portability of taking it on the train, to the gym, etc. All of these products aren't cheap! It's hard to get a signal no matter what I do at home...even when the antenna is outside! I only care about using the satellite because I want to RECORD and you can't record on WIFI! Stupid!
I basically use this as a glorified MP3 player...and now I have to remember to take it with me everywhere so I can listen in the car and at home. Customer service is a joke! I spoke to three separate folks none of which spoke English clearly and none of which were willing to admit that there was a problem with the signal strength on their end since no matter what I tried we could not get a signal (and I live in a big city). Skip it.
Customer Review: Extremely disappointed. Summary: 1 Stars
I decided to buy this after Christmas, and using Christmas money I read reviews and considered it. I heard that the reception wasn't good indoors, but I decided to buy it anyways because of the color display even if I could only use it in my car. Well, let me tell you, worst money I ever spent. I bought it from Best Buy (hint to those who are purchasing from there, have them price check) but unfortunately I could not buy a car kit until I finally found one on the internet because Sirius must have stopped making them. Then, I could not activate it because it wouldn't take a check card on Sirius's site and you need service to activate it.. Oh yeah, the "poor service" indoors is actually no service at all. Let me tell you, standing outside in a blizzard waiting 20 minutes for the Sirius rep to activate it was loads of fun. Finally, all my troubles with Sirius were subsiding and I was able to use my radio for oh.. about three weeks. Now, my radio won't pick up any signal at all. Lucky for me, this happened just past the 30 day return limit. Its just me though, everyone else has signal with their non stiletto 2 radios. I am going to TRY to return this to Best Buy in exchange for a Sportster 5. If that works, try to convince Sirius to not charge me the switching radio fee. I don't have much faith though, I have had not one good experience with Sirius thus far.
Customer Review: outdated technology Summary: 1 Stars
I have been a sirius user since 2003 and have had many different combinations of radio's and boombox's or kits, really was looking forward to using this as a portable player since my work does not involve being near a power source.First problem, the battery life is 4 hours and 4 hours is what you get, can't even listen to a full Howard Stern show, extra battery you say?not supposed to take it out, plus even if you wanted to risk it its an extra 50 dollars.ok so I figure I can record the show and get more playback time that way since that claims to give you 10 hours, well wrong again because the system goes to sleep mode after 5 minutes even if its recording and not plugged in,portability is great if you only want to listen to 4 hours of radio a day,I need 8-10,even if a boombox was able to be found(go ahead and try they are all listed as discontinued or not available anywhere)the stiletto itself will die in 4 hours in the boombox even if that has a 9 hour life, if you are running it off batteries and not an ac cord(again this is portable???)satellite had its hayday but they lost it with horrible research and development and now you cant even find a way to listen to it,my only option is to sell this on ebay and get a nice shortwave radio since this company does not have much life left in it,or any customer service,Howard gone in a year anyway so addios.....
