Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Shure EA650 Volume Control for Shure E/SE Series Sound Isolating EarphonesCustomer Review: Works well, but breaks easily Summary: 4 Stars
I used mine all the time because when using my Shure earphones my iPod is too loud on the lowest setting. Also, it's great on a plane because if I turn the movie volume down low enough, the static dominates, so instead I set the movie volume to medium or so and reduce it with the attenuator.
However, after a while of constant use with the iPod, eventually the wire breaks and it only works if held in the right position. I've been through three of them (incidentally, I got replacement attenuators since my earphones also broke, because of the wire casing becoming brittle and cracking. When I got my second replacement pair of earphones, they told me this problem had been solved as they had changed the material for the casing, but I never found out since I lost the earphones soon after that.) I've discovered since that it's really hard to find the attenuators sold separately, so I'm glad to see that Amazon sells them, although I think I will try an attenuator by another brand first to see if it works better.
