Customer Review: Great shell for a great price.

If you are looking for the very best cocoon for your iPhone, then move on; there's nothing for you here. However if you have decided as I did, that you are tired of sacrificing the graceful look, feel and function of your iPhone for admittedly great protection, then the Shield is worth a look. At the price, what are you risking anyway?
The Shield is very thin, very light, and just snaps on. The case finish has just enough "tooth" to it that it will keep your iPhone from skittering across the table or popping out of your french fry eating hands. Yet it is still smooth enough that it will slip right into your pocket. The fact that it does not protect the chrome bezel is fine with me. Silicone and hard shell cases collect grit that scratches the bezel anyway. In fact, grit gets inside of any case and causes marring and scratching over time. It's easy to snap this one off and wash it.
Cutouts for switches, etc. are accurate. The lens hole is nice and large for the new autofocus and somewhat wide angle lens fitted to the new 3GS. Some lens cutouts are a real problem on thicker cases if they are not cut generously. Sure, the hole for the Apple logo is a bit gratuitous; the translated directions on the cardboard hang tag are hilarious.
A couple of years from now, I'd like to think I will upgrade to a new iPhone and feel like I got all the possible value and enjoyment out of the old one--even though It won't likely be a near pristine addition to my "iMuseum."

I knew before I purchased this that the SHIELD case wouldn't provide much protection for the front of the phone, but I didn't realize how much of the front silver lining of the phone was left uncovered. I changed my case from the iCase Slider to this in the morning, and five hours later I tripped with my phone in my hand and scratched up the bottom corner of the phone. There's a big scratch along the edge of my phone now, because the SHIELD left so much unprotected, and unfortunately my sleek new iPhone is now a scratched up iPhone.
I guess for the much more careful, this is a fine case to buy. It covers most of the back and provides a firmer grasp on the phone when you're using it. For me, it always feels like the phone is going to slip right out of my hand when I don't have a case or cover on it, so this was a good case in that aspect since it doesn't add any bulk. However, don't count on much protection for your phone, even on the back where the Apple logo is exposed -- one wrong move with your car keys in your purse or pocket and you'll end up with a big scratch along the back too.
I've since changed my case out to something with more coverage, and I'm happier using that instead.

I've had this case for about four months now. It's certainly lived up to its expectations.
Pros: The case is amazingly slim, to the point where it feels like there isn't a case. The rubberized coating feels good to the touch, yet does not make it a pain to remove from my jean pockets (like some rubber cases). This case is sleek and protects the back plastic from scratches well. The rubberized paint is sturdy and does not peel like I've seen some other cases do.
Cons: The case does not protrude around the phone past the glass screen. What this means is that while it will protect the back of your iPhone, it does nothing for the glass. Other cases protrude out and makes it "safer" to place the phone screen down. The thin strip of plastic by the volume controls has cracked on me now. After four months of wear and tear, I'm not really complaining - just thought I'd warn you that it's the weakest part. Lastly, I'm not a fan of the cutout in the back to expose the apple logo. I wish they made a version without the hole. I cut a piece of screen protector and placed it underneath that exposed area.
Overall a good case, but I wouldn't buy again.

The case fits extremely snug, considering how little it wraps around the top edge of the phone. Most of the chrome is exposed, so it does not provide protection there. However, I personally like this because that's part of the look of the iPhone, so why cover it up. Sure, if you cover it, it won't get scratched, but you don't buy a sports car to keep it in the garage so it doesn't get a rock chip! If I wanted the chrome covered, I would have purchased a different case.
The volume and vibrate buttons are slightly (and I stress slightly) harder to access due to the shield going across both sides of the buttons, but they are also protected from accidental pushing.
What I like best about this case is the feel. It's got a nice grippy texture without being overly rubbery. It easily slides in and out of my pocket, but allows better grip than a naked iPhone (I was always afraid my phone would slide out of my hand, it's so slippery). Excellent material.
Great case. With a quality screen protector, I think this will keep my iPhone well protected while still showing of the sleek and eye catching design of the phone. Highly recommended.

I really love this iPhone cover. Just now I got back from a trip and I got compliments from 2 separate people telling me how nice it looked. One even told me that I needed to get a case for my iPhone - this product is so sleek that you can't even tell that the cover is on and is protected. He was so impressed with it when I showed it to him.
It's got all the cutouts necessary to give you full access to all the controls, and it even has a very cool circular cutout on the back that enables you to see the Apple logo.
It's extremely form-fitting and tight, and incredibly lightweight. I have dropped my phone and nothing was damaged.
But, here's the thing - the cover fits around and protects the phone in the back, and on the sides. It does not protect the screen if you should happen to drop the phone on its face. The wrap-around protection does not extend to the front, and it doesn't even come completely flush with the screen.
Even so, I still recommended. This is very aesthetically pleasing cover, and it's light and sturdy. Just don't expect it to safeguard your phone from a direct impact to the screen.
