Customer Review: Good with a few caveats
Summary: 4 Stars

I've owned several Sennheiser headsets and I think that they've finally started producing models that A) generally feel good on your head for extended wear, and B) don't break after 6 months. I loved the first 2 models that I bought (older models, not the 140) but they kept breaking. I've had my current 140 for over a year, and it's great.

There are a few caveats. If you've never owned cordless headphones before, then you should know that there may be some static now and then. Also, range reception will vary based on your surroundings. If you live in a sparse suburb or rural area, then the range will be much better than if you redside in a city. I live in an apartment building and if I go more than 40 feet from my transmitter then I start to get a lot of static. But this is standard for many cordless headphones.

There is one other unfortunate caveat for this model. Take a look at the picture of the device above; do you see the aluminum holding rack where the headphones rest? Sennheiser engineers decided to also design this resting position as the means for recharging the headset. Their intentions were good, but the actual execution of the design was bad. There are metal contacts on the underside of the headband which must cleanly touch that aluminum rack. This means that if you casually hang up the headset you will see (via an LED) that the recharge connection is not stable. You will end up needing to reposition and fiddle with the headset for about 5-10 seconds each time you hang it up to ensure that it charges. This is small, but annoying. But otherwise, they are great.

Customer Review: Wireless Headphones RF 140
Summary: 5 Stars

The RS 140 headphones were an excellent replacement for my wired headphones. my wired headphones cords kept getting damanged because of my chair and the internal wires got exposed frequently. plus the wires to the headphones kept getting lose. after 5 years of this, i decided to go wireless. i avoided wireless headphones for a while because i was afraid that the battery life was going to be poor and the RF connection would produce a lot of static. i did a lot of research and i based my decision on those two criterias. i was very doubtful about these sennheiser based on other people's reviews about the static. However, after using these headphones for a month now, i absolutely impressed. the battery life is excellent. it has never gone dead after an entire day use which absolutely surprised me. and for the static...it really depends on what frequency you have it set on. there are three available channels btw. and i noticed that the first channel somewhat intefers with my cordless phone whenever someone operates it. the static is more like quiet buzz in the background. so i switched it to the third channel and it completely eliminated the static. in addition, the RF also works great through walls. and the sound quality and volume is very constant whenever i move about my home. the only downfall is that the wireless headphones does have a limited range as described in the package. i'm also concerned that the wireless headphones are made completely out of plastic...looks fragil. plus, the controls on the headphones can be easily changed if you lean back.

overall, it's an excellent product

Customer Review: Great headphones for around the house
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been using these now for a litte more than six months. The sound is great. It's as good as sitting in front of my PC with the 6.1 setup. FO best experience to connect to a good quality receiver or PC accessory (standard now adays). Closed can style gives you complete isolation with little outside noise.

Here is how I've used or abused it. Working outside in 0 degree weather. Not only keeps ears warm but keeps you moving to the music to avoid freezing. Tolerates light snow or cold sleet or rain. Out in the back of the woods of my house while cutting wood or chainsaw. Some hissing but come on, the noise deafening of chain saw!!! Cutting the grass, leafing, digging, any outside work....still works great. It has even actually saved my head from falling wood or bumps. If you look the condition it is very scartched and beat up but the inner ear parts are as smooth as the day I bought them. I do clean them with mild damp cloth after very outside use.

I can't think of any wireless headphones at this price to go thru landscape, construction, and carpentry work. Yet, still be gentle and available for quiet listening at the fireplace.

140's are the great. If they last me another 6 months I would say it's well worth it...but I give them at least another 18 months +. Good luck!!

P.S. I only gave them a four because they are loose and fall off when I have to move a lot (see use above). Some say it's not fair....but if they can up with an accessory to help with movement (the whole point of wireless) it would get a 5 from me.

Customer Review: The sound is great, but...
Summary: 2 Stars

EDITED REVIEW- NOT 2 STARS- 5 STARS!!!!

Original Review:

The sound is great on these headphones and based solely on that criteria I'd give them 5 stars, BUT... The design has a very SERIOUS flaw. If you want to use these headphones while laying down on a sofa, or in a recliner or in bed to watch TV, you might as well forget it. Whoever designed the placement of the balance and volume dials ought to be fired. They're the kind you move up or down, not left or right and they're placed on the rear edge of the right earpiece which means that if you lay your head back against a pillow or cushion, the volume gets inadvertantly turned completely down (annoying) or completely up (painful) and the balance gets shifted as well. I can't understand why they placed the knobs in this configuration. If you're looking for headphones to use in bed or relaxing on a sofa, don't buy these ones.

Revised Review:

I'm sorry, I need to amend this review. I usually watch my TV laying across the foot of my bed or sofa and use my hand resting on the earpiece to keep the side of my head propped up, or resting the side of my head on a pillow or cushion. Right when I got the headphones I really wasn't used to having headphones on when I watched TV... I'm used to them now (which didn't take very long), and avoiding the knobs is not a problem anymore and hasn't been for quite awhile... These headphones are GREAT, convenient and easy to recharge- I'm SO glad I bought them. I've had them now for two or three years. I think and they work like a CHAMP!

Customer Review: Quality Wireless Phones
Summary: 4 Stars

Good build quality and fairly comfortable. They do get a little hot after extended use, but they are a closed back design, so they will do that, and one of the reasons I went with the 140s WAS the closed back as to not disturb the rest of the house at 1 AM.

Sound quality is average, but these are wireless, so I was not expecting much. They do sound rather decent though, and better than I had expected. An open back style would probably sound better. The compression is usefull for television viewing, and the automatic noise gate works well for cutting out the hiss in silent passages.

Range from base is very good. I can even go outside with them.

Battery has lasted through 5-6 hour listening periods, and still had juice the next morning for an hour or so. No problems at all with battery life so far.

Base unit is functional. Wish it had a built in power supply rather than the wall-wart, but that's rare these days.

Took off one star for the ridiculous placement of the controls on the headset. They are on the back side of the earcups, and make lying down, or putting a pillow behind your head impossible without adjusting the volume. Incredibly annoying!!! Why not mount the controls on the front of the cup?

Overall, a decent set of phones for being wireless. If you are looking for sound quality and comfort, I would go with a wired, open back set. But, if you are looking at this, you are probably wanting a wireless set, and for wireless, these are one of the best.
