Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser RS 130 Wireless Surround Sound HeadphonesCustomer Review: Happy. For us that realize this is not a prefect world. Summary: 4 Stars
I read alot of reviews about Wireless headphones before deciding on the Sennheiser RS130's. I realized there does not seem to be a specific brand that has the 'perfect' headphones i.e. no complaints.
What kind of expectations do we have from sound? Well, I am a photographer & do not know much about sound(although in very aspect of my life I am extremely pedantic & perfectionistic). My husband is a presenter for ESPN and obviously is around Sennheiser products all the time. My sister & her husband are both sound engineers(they bought a cheaper variety of Sony's).
Ok, so after doing research I decided on the Sennheisers but they were over my aloted X-mas budget. Found a site on amazon that had a better price & seemed to have reasonably good seller reviews.
Noise complaint:
After fully charging them & plugging them in I tested with TV/Source sound very high & headset lower VERSUS TV/Source sound lower & headset higher & understood what people were complaining about. There is more noise when TV/Source sound is low. Noise/buzzing is far less when source sound is higher to start with. But still not perfect.
Then next thing that lessened noise was placement of charger/transmitter. I just moved it away from the side of the TV that had more walls/obstructions & other wireless modems etc. Better again. But for you people that expect crystal clear sound you will be disappointed as there is a very, very slight buzz/rumble but for us it is nothing to complain about. The sound is great, they autotune, very comfortable fit, clicks easily into the recharging cradle & sound is pretty great!
Customer Review: Good for the money. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these on Black Friday when there was a great deal on them for $60 and could not be more pleased. I typically don't like Sennheiser as they fit too tight on average. However, my co-workers have these and I have tried them for hours on end only to find ou that these were not typical of the wired ones I have had before. They are not as comfortable as Audio Technica ones are. But, then again, they don't make wireless headphones either. The audio is just as good as some entry level Audio Technicas. Very clear and crisp with very little to be desired in this price range. Where they do tend to falter is in the transmitter department. Overall it is fairly good and I can be on the other side of the house with pretty good clarity and little to no hiss or pop of intermittent signal. However, if I walk out into the garage, the amount of RF interferrence tends to make the signal quality dip noticeably. The surround sound feature is very good and in instances where the recording is an older one, it can make a big difference in the bass and overall "wow" factor of the sound. In general, these are very good overall if you take into account the interferrence that though minimal, can be a problem, especially in areas with a lot of electromagnetic radiation (garage, attic, basement). If you want no interruptions in signal, bluetooth would be your best option. However, they typically retail for ~$200 for the headphones and then another $100 for a transmitter. And that is just for entry level, good to high quality headphones. Others can retail for plenty more of course. It all depends on taste and budget. For the money though, you can't beat them!
Customer Review: Nicely Useful... Summary: 4 Stars
I actually own three pair, two of the RS 130, and one of the RS110, & actually used to have an even older model. I guess I like them....
They are great sounding, with a fairly good range, & do what they are supposed to do. I can listen to the tv, or anything I'd like on my computer, music, streamed radio shows, etc., and if I have to make dinner, check mail, do the laundry, or hit the head, I don't have to miss anything, or turn up the volume & blast everyone else in the house.
My only downside to these, is that the ends of the headphones, where they can be adjusted, end up wearing out, & breaking, to where one side just dangles, which is not so good. Of course this occurs past the warranty period, and Sennheiser said they can fix it, but the cost would be too close to that of simply replacing them, again, not so good. I can somewhat use them by wrapping duct tape around and around the connection, but it still won't stay in place properly, or be tight enough to use other than when I'm certain to be sitting in one place, or they'll fall off.
I wish they made these better, or be willing to fix this flaw beyond their warranty period, since it's obviously the one area their normally high quality falls down. I also own some professional Sennheiser products, mainly wired & wireless microphones, for gigs & recording, and they have all worked great. I've been able to find all the headphones I own, at good prices, on sale. If I had paid close to the retail price, my ratings would definitely be lower, since they really should be able to make the earpiece connections sturdier, since these will last for years...
Customer Review: Saved my marriage Summary: 5 Stars
These headphones are great. No matter how low I watched TV my wife would say it's too loud EVERY NIGHT. Even if she just left the room from a show she was watching and I didn't touch the volume control. These were a Christmas gift from me to me and I did some research before purchasing. These were my first set of wireless headphones so I based my decision on the reviews I could find on the net. Some complained about a hiss during quite periods, but I don't hear it. I think all it takes is to increase the volume from the source and turn it down on the headphones. The transmitter has a light to tell you when the input sound level is sufficient. I suggest following the easy directions to the letter as I did and you will be very impressed with these headphones. Most importantly charging for at least 16 hours prior to use. I have a three bedroom home and can go anywhere in the house with crystal clear clarity. The best feature is the surround sound feature. I do not own a system, but my TV is capable of producing surround sound. So when wearing the headphones I'm listening in surround sound which is pretty cool. You can turn this feature on and off on the transmitter. The only down side is the volume and tuning controls are on the rear of the cans, so it is possible to accidentally hit them on the couch or pillow. Now that you are aware of that it's not a big deal and definitely not enough to discourage one from purchasing these. I can't imagine more expensive headphones being much better. Now my wife has nothing to complain about, well about the volume on the TV anyway, and we are a happy couple living in bliss again.
Customer Review: I think these suck too Summary: 2 Stars
I'm kind of a die hard sennheiser fan, I have the hd595's and the eh150's and both of those are 5 star headphones in my opinion. These however, are not what I expected from sennheiser at all. I'm listening to my dad's pair of these hdr130's and I just now had to minimize this page that I was typing on as he walked in the room because I didn't want him to see me dissing on his headphones and make him think that they were crappy. He's not into music quality or into headphones like I am and I want him to think that what he has is good. But now he's gone again and I can continue bashing on these poor sounding headphones. We've always been a sennheiser family... My brother has the hd650's which are so awesome it's hard to describe. I absolutley love my hd595's and they sound so great and are so comfortable and the eh150's sound amazing for only costing [...]bucks... in fact, I'll bet that you can't get better sound for the money. But these hdr130's are a different story. They're not even close as comfortable as any of the senn's that I listed and the sound is worse than these old junky panasonic headphones that I actually found in a dumpster. They (the panasonics) aren't even the big over the ear kind of phones, they are the smaller dinky kind of headphones that sit on top of your ears. The sound on the hdr130'a is weak and hissy and not bright and clear and with the tight warm bass that is the sennheiser trademark. I love sennheiser and am a real devotee, but it would be a cold day in hell before I would waste my money on these things.
