Customer Review: Sennheiser RS 130 Wireless Headphones
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first experience with a wireless headphone. I did not get an infrared unit, since that would always require line-of-sight contact with the base unit. I bought this one based on price from the sales company, which was substantially lower than that offered by other sources. Overall, I am satisfied with this product, except for one thing. The unit, together with the headphones stands a bit over 9" tall, which means it will not fit into the shelves that contain my home entertainment center. The sound quality is ok for me, but does not have the sense of sound separation that my HTS, with its speaker separation it has.

Recharging of the headphone's internal, replaceable AA batteries is done through two metal contacts on the headphones when they are in contact with the base unit supports. This works well, but it does mean that the user cannot simply replace the headphones on the base unit and be sure that the batteries would recharge; attention is needed to make sure good electrical contact is made.

I was influenced to purchase this unit based on the user comments I read from other people, some of whom commented about other brand name headphones.

I had a bit of a concern about how to connect this headphone system to my HTS, since neither the HTS or the headphone instructions were very clear about this. After contacting the HTS mfr. I used some of the unused terminals on the back of the HTS receiver and found the headphones worked well. The only remaining step was to press the "mute" button on the HTS's remote control.

I deducted one star from this review because none of the information I read about these headphones gave any measurements, which as I said before, is taller than I would have liked, and I have not yet settled on where I will finally put the base unit.

Customer Review: PERFECT, BUT JUST 1 THING . . .

The RS 130 is the choice pick because it has Surround Sound. The sound is better than any other model. I am a long time customer of Sennheiser Wireless Headphones. The RS 130 is the best so far - hands down. The one and only problem, which is the most important, is the fact that the volume wheel has no clicks as you change the volume. The older series they sold with Surround Sound did have a click turning wheel. The reason for this complaint is because, most people by cordless headphones so they can lay in bed and not disturb the sleeping person next to them, late at night. The second you fall a sleep with them on your head, which most people do, the volume wheel raises the volume when it rubs up against the pillow. Even if you don't wake up, your wife does and has to reach over and try to turn the volume wheel down, so she can go back to sleep. This is the only flaw in the entire RS series of wireless headphones. I still give 5 stars for the quality, and don't believe any other of the reviews on the Surround. It is by far the finest sound quality you will ever hear. It takes even old prgrams and movies and blows you away. It's like having 6 speakers around your head in stereo at any volume level. The only other advise I would give to Sennheiser is try to make all the headsets slimmer, so when you do fall a sleep eventually, it's easier to turn your head on the pillow. Put back the clicking wheel and you'll have the best wireless headphones on the market. Buy the RS 130 set for now, and you will be in sound quality heaven. I am the Senior Television Editor for Time Warner Cable for the last 25 years - I know about sound quality. You will love it, and remember you can always switch the Surround off if you feel the need to. Sennheiser, please make more models of Wireless Surround Sound Headphones for variety. Thanks so much.

Customer Review: Great Wireless Choice
Summary: 4 Stars

My fiance studies for hours most nights out of the week (med school), and I tend to play video games or partake in solo marathon watch parties of 24 at these most inopportune moments. We have a pretty small apartment, so the noise my activities tend to generate impeded her studying ability to the point where I was forced to invest in a set of wireless headphones.

I am by no means a headphone guru, but I know what feels and sounds good. These headphones are large, but pretty comfortable. I've worn them for upwards of three and four hours straight and experienced only mild discomfort by the end. When walking around the apartment, I tend to experience mild static in certain areas, but normally using the auto-tuner or playing with the channels remedies these problems in no time. The vast majority of the time, I use them from my living room couch, which is maybe 8 to 10 feet from my entertainment center, and I rarely experience any static. The voices and music come through crisp and clear, and the surround sound function actually works quite well (moreso for films and videogames than music). The sound quality is actually so good, I will use the headphones more often than not, even when I'm home alone.

My only real issue (besides the occasional static) regards the button placement. The volume control wheel and auto-tune button are located on the back side of the right earphone, which basically prohibits propping your head up on a pillow unless you're willing to risk excruciating blasts of sound or accidental muting.

Overall, these headphones were a very good buy at a very good price from Amazon. I tried the Sony wireless phones (don't remember the exact product... 900 mHz), and was severely disappointed. After ordering these, I never looked back. Highly suggested purchase.

This order has definitely changed my mind about using Amazon and Internet ordering in general. Everything that could go wrong did. The headset was a piece of junk. It did not charge the batteries. I contacted the distributor, A.P.D, who sold it. The technician said the batteries took a trickle charge and it was slow to charge, I told him I had charged it for two days. He recounted it would charge. It did not.

I contacted ADP for a refund. At first read, their return policy looked like they are going to charge you %10 for returning it. Upon re-reading the complex almost three page return form you see they will take it back if defective. The form seems to want you to contact the manufacture. I did and they said to talk to APD again. By the way, two phone calls were made just to get this far. I had to return the headset at my cost.

Forget trying to contact Amazon by phone. Trying to find a phone number for them is like trying to solve a Chinese puzzle. I did find a contact number for them but you had to use an online entry popup to enter your phone number. It did not work !!!

Amazon only refunded me for the base cost of the headset, which was supposed to be a free mail shipment. So here we go again with Amazon. I had to active their "A to Z" guarantee form. The form reads like a house mortgage. You have to check off a number of check blocks that read like legalese and you are not sure what you just agreed to.
After all that, they finely refunded the $16 or so that they paid to send me the item which was supposed to be paid by them as part of the incentive to make the order .

Given all the pain, this order entailed, I still had to eat the $11 it cost to send the headset back to APD.

This transaction deserves no stars.

Customer Review: About the best you'll find in FM wireless headphones
Summary: 5 Stars

I work nights and watch TV all night on days off. I've used Recotron and Panasonics a few years ago- both had too much noise and crackle. I was hesitant to buy wireless again but saw the 130s- refurb on amazon for under 70 bucks and had to try them. When first tried them they were noisy and crackling like I remebered BUT then I tried a few channel combos and found a very nice and quiet one. They sound great and are almost silent (noise free) when watching TV. Most I've used would crackle and fade when you moved a half inch or turned your head- very annoying- these were awesome in that regard. That being said, you must realize that if you go into another room or more than 20 ft away it'll start fading and getting static. Mine does if I go to bedroom or kitchen (600sqft apt) but is tolerable and actually great for FM phones. ALL makers completely BS the ranges- if it's nightime and no breeze and you're outside and you live in a flat barren acre of the desert- you MIGHT get half the distance they quote. These are pretty much for same-room viewing and do a great job at that! Take the time and try a few different spots for xmitter base. If you have line of sight- you may consider IR headphones- never had em but supposedly digital error-correcting for nice clarity. Comfort is average- I find the cups too shallow and my ear hits the hard inner part- sore after a couple hours- but I can go hours each night no probs. It's winter and don't know how sweatty they'll be this summer? The good: best quality and clarity I've owned, refurbs great value, batteries are awesome (NiMH not NiCad), sleek auto-charging stand. The Bad- maybe uncomfortable for some, channel switch is 5mm from volume (always hitting it). Bottom line- one of the best value rechargable FM headphones out there, none are perfect!
