Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser RS 130 Wireless Surround Sound HeadphonesCustomer Review: Great for wireless everyday listening Summary: 4 Stars
Got my RS 130 last week, and I'm happy about it. This headphone is comfortable, the charging system works (no need to struggle to find the right position at the base), base/receiver tuning is a no-brainer, and it has good range and sound quality.
These last two deserve some detailing though. I use the RS130 mostly around my computer, im my room; for that it works flawlessly, side by side with my wi-fi router, external HD, cordless phone, sound mixer, etc. Even walking outside the room is not a problem, but eventually you get some glitches (especially on the move). As any radio receiving device far from the base, you'll find spots where it works and spots where it gets noisy. I'm 100% satisfied, as it reaches my kitchen well and I can even listen to music on the balcony, with little hiss. But of course, mine is not a penthouse.
As for quality, they are really remarkable considering theyre wireless and go for 100 bucks. But as a musician I wouldn't use these for audio recording (they're open!) or monitoring; they don't stretch to the pro quality needed there - but then again, no audio engineer in his senses would expect any wireless set to. Just thought I should mention it. As a reference, when comparing the RS 130 with my wired Philips SHP805 (not a pro, but good set) I could hear the better frequency separation and dynamics of the latter. One could say the RS130 sounds something like sennheisers wired HD202. Good multi-purpose headphones, thats it. I'm being picky here, otherwise they would get a full 5 stars.
Customer Review: Buy It! Summary: 5 Stars
Over all this is a great product. I have had mine for about 3-4 months now, and have little to complain about. My wife gets up at 4:30AM so watching TV in our bedroom is disturbing for her once she has gone to bed. That is why I purchased these headphones. They work great! The sound is excellent, was very easy to set up (less than 5 mins), have great range (even downstairs and outside the home with crystal clear sound), and recharge on their own when not using them...what more could you ask for?
Two small things that could be improved on these headphones would be...One, to make them a bit lighter as after a while they can begin to feel a bit heavy. Two, use a material for the earpads, that stays cooler. Not that the headphone make them warm, but in warm weather, the cloth used just seems to be a bit warm, and I find myself wanting to remove the headphones from time to time so not to perspire on the ear pieces. It is like an "ear muff" effect in warm weather, but seems fine now that the temps have cooled a bit here in So.California.
Overall, I love this product and highly recommend them...and would buy them again without hesitation. I did not have any trouble with the volume shifting due to my head resting on a pillow or something as some have indicated in other reviews. My solution to that should it happen to you, is to simply turn the headphones around so the volume is on the front of your head not the back...problem solved...they are still comfortble that way as I have worn them like that several times.
Customer Review: Happy camper with these headphones Summary: 5 Stars
I was so absolutely pleased with the purchase of the Sennheiser RS-130 that I just had to write. It was so easy to hook up and the sound was incredible, just what I had been looking for. Now you have to understand that I was not looking for something that I could hook up to a stereo system to listen to music. I wanted something that I could hook up to the TV because I have a hearing problem that causes me to have to turn the volume up on the TV so loud that it really bothers my wife. These headphones solved the problem. My wife can turn the TV volume down to suit her and I can control the volume on my headphones to suit me. I also can understand the words better, they are crisp and clear, a whole lot better than the TV speakers.
I have only had these headphones for about 48 hours, but right now I would not trade them for a pretty penny. I can't give you a total review of the complete operation of these headphones but I can tell you that anywhere inside of our house (38' x 58') there was little-to-no deterioration in sound quality. I did notice a blip or two of either interference or loss of signal in the bathroom and the utility room, but just a blip not enough to hardly notice.
I have to say one of the greatest features (not the greatest feature, the greatest feature is the sound quality) of this unit is the ease of recharging the batteries of the headphones. You just hang the headphones on the charging cradle of the transmitter and that's it. It couldn't be more simple than this.
Customer Review: Great Buy! Summary: 5 Stars
I got these before Xmas for a special price and ended up buying two sets - one for my husband for Xmas and one for his father for his Jan. birthday. My only complaint about these is the fact that nowhere did it say you MUST have a headphone plug in your t.v. in order for these to work. I tried for hours with every combination of plugging in and re-setting and unplugging to the input/output on the tv and then to my cable receiver box as well as the dvd player. Nothing worked. I kept thinking either they were defective or I was doing something wrong. After a couple hours I went online and found out that you must have the headphone plug in order for these to work. When I tried them on another tv that had the plug they worked great! Unfortunately, the t.v. that my husband watches most of the time is the older set that does not have the plug, but he is planning on buying a new tv soon. Until then, he does use them on the other t.v., as well as when he is working on the computer - either listening to music or otherwise. He said they are very comfortable and have very good sound. They hold a charge for a very long time and the charger stand is very convenient and works well. My husband can now watch loud movies and t.v. without bothering the rest of the family (he tends to have the volume up pretty high) and my kids sometimes use them while playing their video games and they work wonderful for that as well. I am extremely happy that I purchased these and wish I had bought a couple more at the great price I got them at.
Customer Review: Excellent audio and build quality - won't break the bank! Summary: 5 Stars
After buying several pairs and brands of wireless headphones, I almost gave up. I tried infra-red, which were totally useless and full of hiss and static, and RF which were built cheap and made like garbage.
After returning the last pair at Radio Shack, I considered going outside my price range and moving into the $200 range to see if that would improve the quality. The salesperson told me - "don't bother, you'll just return them - everybody does...they all get returned". So I left empty handed. Several weeks later, I Googled "wireless headphones" and came across a very favorable review of Sennheiser. Then I decided to Google Sennheiser, and came across one glowing review after another. Now I recognize the name from about 30 years ago (I was a hard-core audiophile back then) but havn't seen it around for many years. These RS 130's are just fantastic - sound quality is pure greatness, extremely clear, very well made, comfortable...just a great product. Extremely happy with the item - in fact, couldn't be happier I think if I paid 3 times the price. As an aside, several weeks later I was in the market for ear-buds for my iPod for the gym. Couldn't really justify buying one of the 3 big-name popular $100 ones out there...but guess what? Found a sports-model Sennheiser pair at the Apple Store for $35, and the sound quality is superb. Build quality is very high! Once again - a "discovery" by accident - looks like Sennheiser is one of those companies that just plain "gets it right". Highly recommended.
