Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser PMX80 In-Ear Sport Series II Behind the Head Earphones

Customer Review: Excellent headphones for running.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these headphones for running. I was using the ipod earbuds but they would clog up which would cause sound to almost be nonexistent in one earbud halfway through my run. One of the earbuds would also pull and after about 5 minutes would fall out of my ear.

Enter the Sennheiser PMX80. Yesterday was my first run with these and it was raining out to boot. These performed flawlessly. They do not sit in your ear like earbuds so they do not get clogged with sweat like my ipod earbuds. I have a pretty big head but surprisingly these hit great. One problem I sometimes have with headphones like this is that they are too tight due to my large noggin. Not so with these. They were snug but never felt tight. I almost forgot I had them on due to their comfort and light weight.

If you are a runner these headphone are for you, assuming you like the behind the head style headphones. I use them with an iPod shuffle and am very happy. While they are a little on the expensive side they are worth it in my opinion. They are sweatproof and waterproof also which comes in very handy. I even used my kitchen faucet and rinsed the sweat off them after my run with no problems. Overall a great pair of headphones and I recommend them.

Customer Review: Awesome for the price and comfort!

I love these earphones. I have small ear canals, so regular sized ear buds would always fall out. I run 5 times a week and needed something that would stay put, and these do an awesome job. Plus, they're splash resistant, which means I can sweat a ton and it's ok, or run in the rain without having to worry about them shorting out. I've had mine for about 3 months now, sweated up a storm with them and ran through the rain with them. There was one instance where I heard a ground, but placing the earbud against a towel and tapping against it gently solved that immediately.

Many of the reviews that gave this product one star complained about the fit. I had the exact opposite experience - I love the way these fit on me. They stay put and I don't need to adjust them at all during a 7k run. They look pretty cool too and the sound quality is quite good. To play safe, keep the receipt as several reviewers have complained about them conking out after a few days. Personally, I've owned at least 6 pairs of Sennheisers and that's never happened to me (knock wood). It takes a good 2-3 years for mine to die or aesthetically degrade.

Overall, for the price they're offered on Amazon I think they're worth every penny!

Customer Review: Good sound, poor fit

First, let me say that I've owned other Sennheiser full-sized headphones and portable earbuds/phone and I've been very happy with them. Sound quality and construction in general is very good. My issue with these portables is they are in part intended for use by runners, which presupposes a certain amount of vertical movement during use. The design of any earbuds/phones targeting runners should take this into account to prevent the movement of the headphones to avoid the unpleasant effects of quickly moving a speaker away from and then back close to the ear. By looking at these Sennheiser PMX80s, it appears the overall design would prevent that. In my experience, they do not; I would in fact say they fail pretty significantly in this respect. When I ran with these, the earphones kept bouncing in my ears. I had to stop and run back to get my backup headphones -- good old Panasonics.

The good news: they work just fine in other, more stationary settings. In fact, they're very comfortable. I now use them when I'm sitting with my portable and a cup of coffee. Very happy in this setting. Not happy when using these while running.

Not sure I'd buy these again. I will definitely not use them while running.

Customer Review: Best of the bunch

It has taken me a while to find quality ipod accesories. Ive had every generation of nano and a few of the reg ipods and while some have been better than others, these products are all top-notch. My experience with accessories, however, has not been such. For example, after 3 tries, I have yet to find a good armband for the nano. It does not seem to exist yet. With sport ear phones, however, I have struck gold. My first job as a kid was as an audio salesman at C.City. more than 15 years have passed and I can say that today, I am a practical audiophile, meaning that I finally have a handle on the name vs. quality ratio. So, if you are looking for good frequency response, durability through weather & sweat, and comfort, you can take it from me - these are great. Also, these dont stop up your ear because they are forward facing. Unless you are submerged, it is not healthy to seal your ear canal. Fortunately you have enough sound projection for enough bass to get though, which is usually an issue when there is a significant open space between the driver and the canal. The only other trial left for these is to see how they hold up over time, which, based on the long-standing quality brand, should be an easy pass.

Customer Review: Fits my ear/head snuggly; OK sound
Summary: 4 Stars

I needed a pair of earphones for jogging (1 hour each run), and in need of something that secures better and sounds better than the pair that comes with the iPhone 3GS. I've ordered the 680 model, but the vendor on Amazon took the liberty of sending this PMX80 model without my permission. I had the option of return and get a refund, but decided to give this model a chance.

The earphones and the frame fit very well on the first try with minor adjustments. It felt secure. I went for a run, and attempted to bounce up and down vertically, and there was no movement. I swung my head side-to-side and it didn't get loose either. So I was happy with its fit.

I'm used to holding the player on my hand, so the long wire with a clip was fine.

As for the sound, it's clear for all ranges. The bass is present and good enough. I have a pair of Monster Turbine Copper which is studio-quality (but impossible to run with), so my expectation maybe a little too high for sound quality. Consider this product is used for sports and the outdoors where it's a constant battle with body movements, foot steps, surrounding sounds and wind noise, and it's price point, it's all good. I am satisfied.
