Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser PMX80 In-Ear Sport Series II Behind the Head EarphonesCustomer Review: Great headphones for heavy sweating workouts. Summary: 5 Stars
As a person who sweats quite heavily during workouts, especially running, I've been looking for headphones that don't fall out of my ears, and which don't get so clogged with sweat that the sound is compromised. (For me, earbuds never, ever stay in) The Sennheiser PMX80 earphones finally proved to be the ones I was looking for.
To start, they comfortably sit over the ears and the earphones stick into the ear--they don't seem as though they will stay in place, but they are rock-solid. NOTE: if you dislike the feeling of things inside your ear, or are extremely sensitive inside your ear, you may not like the way these feel. That doesn't bother me, personally. While running, they do not bounce around and they do not slide out, even during the most intense, sweaty workout.
They also remain fairly dry while working out--rather than getting so sweaty they clog up and muffle the sound, the Sennheiser PMX80s remain clear and comfy. You can also rinse them out under the tap if salt or anything starts to build up on the earphones.
The only caveat to them is that they have an extremely long cord, which can be nice, or it can get you all tangled up, depending on what sort of MP3 system you're using. The cord does have a small clip, though, so you can secure part of the cord to your clothing.
I cannot recommend these highly enough to anyone who is frustrated by slipping, sliding earphones. Definitely worth the price.
Customer Review: Not what I had hoped for Summary: 2 Stars
I spent a lot of time looking to replace my iPod buds as they started to crap out after years of use. I am no audiophile, but I do enjoy listening to music when I run and workout, and wanted to get some better headphones for running primarily. I went for these based on the reviews here, and also on a review for the prior incarnation of these headphones (they were dubbed the "best" headphones for runners).
Perhaps I received a lemon set, but the construction of these things is terrible!! I have had them for less than 2 months, and have run just over 100 miles while using them and they are falling apart. The left earbud is coming apart, and the fat rubber cover for the end of the cord doesn't stay put making it difficult to unplug the headphones from my nano. Speaking of the cord, it's way too long. If you use the clip you are treated to a clicking sound (from the clip) on every stride. Also, if you try to do any lifting in the gym while on a bench the back of these headphones make it really annoying. I generally just took them off (hung them around my neck) when I did any bench stuff because they were too uncomfortable.
The sound quality is better than the iPod buds (what isn't?) but I found that these headphones had more wind noise than the standard iPod buds, regardless of the amount of wind.
In short, after using these almost every day for about 2 months I am going back to my crappy iPod ear buds.
Customer Review: The best headphones for running!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Over the last ~3 years I have been through 20+ headphones looking for ones that meet the following criteria, in order of importance:
1)Stay in my ears
2)Sound (actually just about as important as #1)
3)Comfort
4)Don't get wet with sweat that decreases the sound quality.
5)Price
I have experimented with pretty much every brand and several of the higher end models such as Shure and Ultimate Ears which were three times as much as these. I have also tried every type of headphone design such as "earbuds" (aka in-ear) and different varieties of "sports headphones" such as earclips, over-the-head and behind-the-neck type which these headphones fall into.
I have been using these headphones for over a year now, work out 6 days a week (twice a day on M,W,F), and have put literally thousands of miles on them as I am a marathon runner (I ran 4 in the last year) and they have held up incredibly well.
I actually bought a second pair just in the event that they break, I can't find them or I need a dry pair to wear. About 6 months ago, one pair did stop working in the right ear so I sent them back to Sennheiser and had a new pair in about a week with no questions asked!
In conclusion, I cannot recommend these headphones enough. I generally don't write reviews but I honestly feel that strongly about these headphones. Thanks and happy running. :)
Customer Review: Buyer beware Summary: 1 Stars
I have been using Sennheiser sports series since 2004. In that time, I used 2 pairs of earphones each lasting about 3 years. I bought a new set in October of this year from Electronica Direct. I typically run for about 60 minutes daily, and about 5-10 minutes into the run, I start feeling an uncomfortable pressure against my ear. While its not excruciating, it tends to get raw, and is a little more uncomfortable with each progressive day. Nevertheless, I figured that maybe it had to do with my ears, and was not necessarily a design flaw. Within 2 weeks of use, the earphones cracked. I contacted Sennheiser for replacement, and sent them in. When I checked the status of them, I was told that Electronica Direct was not an authorized dealer of their products, and the faulty earphones were likely counterfeit. Luckily, while this model has been retired, she had a replacement in stock, which I subsequently received the next day through UPS. When I received these new earphones, they looked identical to the prior pair. However, when I ran with them, there was an amazing difference. They were so comfortable even after an hour of running, and the sound was noticeably less metallic. I have had a great experience with Sennheiser in the past, and this was a disappointing experience. Please be aware when buying that you may not be purchasing an authentic product when not purchasing from an authorized retailer.
Customer Review: Awesome headphones Summary: 5 Stars
There's just one expression I can use to describe these headphones: AWESOME! Listen, I'm retired now, but I worked for recording studios for a long time. I love working out, but there's a problem, my kids say that I don't sweat, I drain. For this reason, the headphones I had used before these ones didn't last very long. Let's say two or three months at most. As you can see, I didn't have many choices; I couldn't find some really durable headphones, let alone with good sound quality. Then I found these ones, and I was appealed by the brand, because I know Sennheiser is a very good and reliable from my experience in recording studios. They didn't let me down! They're everything you can expect from a pair of excellent headphones. You name it: Sound quality? Far above the expression "the value for your money"; Comfort? Well, for the first time ever, I don't have to keep on replacing them while I'm working out as a result of wet ears; Durability? I've been wearing them for over six months and I can't believe they're still fine, rust-free. They're so easy to clean, and they also have an excellent construction quality, and finally, but not the least, everybody says they're cool. It's very common to see people coming up while I'm exercising just to ask me where I bought them. Sennheiser, I love you, thanks for making my exercising so enjoyable.
