Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser PMX80 In-Ear Sport Series II Behind the Head EarphonesCustomer Review: I like them, but their quality control has slipped over the years Summary: 3 Stars
Over the last few years, I have purchased 4 neck headsets from this manufacturer. The first set (that's when they had a green wire instead of the orange wire) was fabulous. I used it for two years in China while travelling and while jogging once a day. This pair got smashed in my briefcase, so I went to a Chinese Apple store and bought a second pair. This pair must have been a counterfeit Chinese pair. The green wire literally disintegrated within a month exposing the bare wires. Still, I loved the sound quality and the fit ... so I bought another pair. For this pair, they lasted perhaps 6 months and then the wire plug attachment lost connectivity such that I no longer got stereo, but mono from one ear bud. So, finally, I bought my current pair (orange wire). The orange wire is thinner than the historical green one. It hasn't broken yet, but I don't think it will last as long as the original pair I had purchased several years ago. Since I use them every day, I don't mind paying for a higher quality set, but its clear to me that they are allowing the wire and connection quality to deteriorate. Still, they have great sound.
Customer Review: Best Running Headphones I've Owned Summary: 5 Stars
I've gone through a few different sets of running headphones including the iPod headphones (notoriously bad and would not stay in my ears after a few steps) and the Nike Earhook headphones which I hoped would fit my evidently oddly-shaped outer-ear, but they too were somewhat loose and had to be adjusted every half-mile or so.
After reading reviews for various sets of headphones I settled on the Sennheiser PMX80 Sport Series II headphones and they have been wonderful. Though initially a little tight around the head, they become more comfortable over the course of exercise and the only parts of the headphones noticeable during exercise are the speakers. The sound quality is good (though I'm not too picky) and the included clip is a good add-on allowing you to clip the long cord to part of your outfit so it is not dangling around too much during a run or other activity.
Regarding their water-resistance. I'm not a big sweater but haven't had any problems either with sweat or pouring a small cup of water on the back of my head during a long workout.
I highly recommend these headphones.
Customer Review: Uncomfortable Summary: 1 Stars
I am searching for a durable earphone that I can use while running. I hoped these would be the answer but because they are so incredibly uncomfortable I can't bear to wear them. I am use to in-ear styles earphones but find they slip during running and therefore require a lot of adjustment. The behind the neck styling and snug fit are great but you need to be able to tolerate the pain to wear these. I tried these while running four times for about 45 minutes each time and just couldn't get past the pain they created. I started dreading going for a run while using these so I just stopped listening to music altogether while these were my only sound option for running.
They also don't cancel sound so when running along noisy streets you need to adjust the volume extrememly loud and then on quiet streets you need to adjust the volume again. So ultimately I found myself fiddling with the volume as much as I use to be fiddling with the slipping earbuds so I had traded fiddling with the earpiece for fiddling with the volume control.
They are sturdy and tolerate the sweating but now they just sit on the counter.
Customer Review: Sennheiser PMX80 Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second pair of these headphones. First pair lasted about 2 years before the speakers went which I find an acceptable length of time for a product like this. I use these in the gym and running so they are subjected to a lot of bouncing and moisture and they really hold up. My main "love" of these headphones is the fit. The "ear buds" and "ear clip" style just do not stay put when really running. These things do not move at all and remain comfortable for a 1 hour workout in the gym or a 8 mile run. The cord is relatively long so if you use an arm band you will need to tuck the cord in. I generally wear my iPOD on my waist and even there the cord is a bit long. Nice thing is the cord is long enough if you wear your iPOD at the waist in the center of your back the cord reached no problem. To me a bit too long is better than not long enough. Sound quality is fine. You just need to remember these are a pair of semi disposable, lightweight work out head phones and not $800 Noise Canceling Full Ear Head Phones.
Most important for active people these things stay put.
Customer Review: Best headphones I've used for running Summary: 5 Stars
My goal for these was very straightforward, they had to stay in my ear and be reasonably comfortable for running and they fit the bill. Have tried over a dozen different brands and have had a set of these for almost 2 years and have been quite content. The jostling motion of running makes buds useless to me, the ear clip style too moves a bit and anything involving a headphone pad instead of the bud insert gets too sweaty. These have enough bass and clarity to fit my needs, when wanting to enjoy music in a non athletic situation I go to my Sennheiser PXC 250 Active Noise Canceling Headphones.
The one con is durability. I've had two pairs of PMX70 and see the same issue will inevitably happen with these, that the space immediately next to the bud is weakly made and will eventually break. Party because of how I jam them in my gym bag, but also because of shotty construction, these aren't as durable as I'd prefer. That said, I've gotten to enjoy a year of use with each pair before retiring them, a solid ROI to me for how great they feel in my ear.
