Customer Review: Excellent sound unaffected by body motion!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a treadmill runner who also lifts weights. The ear buds that came with the Shuffle my daughter gave me wouldn't stay in my ears in workouts because of body motion so I wanted something that wouldn't slip or fall out. I've worn these for about 10 75-minute workouts and also for one extended 4-5 hour leaf-raking. I can tell you that these are nothing short of terrific. The sound is excellent with good balance between bass and treble. Body motion is no problem at all. On the bench the wrap-around design sometimes bumps the bench, but it doesn't knock them out of my ears. A slight repositioning of my head when I'm bench pressing takes care of the bump.

I've never tried noise-canceling earphones, but these make me think I have all I need. The Y where I work out plays music, but it is not noticeable. This might be because I play my music loud. It doesn't seem too loud to me, but the volume certainly impacts how much external sound you hear. When I want to have a conversation, it is easy to remove these phones by just dropping them around my neck, like a necklace.

On harder workouts, I have had some perspiration trickle into my right ear, but I just dried it off. It created no problem.

The mint green color - a Sennheiser trademark apparently - is kind of cool.

Customer Review: NOT recommended for working out. Sweat kills them
Summary: 2 Stars

As long as you are not sweating, these headphones are excellent. Great sound (when they are dry). Secure fit. Good looking. BUT they are not sport headphones as advertised because they don't play well with sweat. As a runner, I sweat an average amount, and it just pours into these earpieces.... causing a muffled sound and reduced volume. As far as I can tell, it is caused by sweat forming a film over the metallic surface of the earpieces. To make matters worse, sweat can cause an additional seal between the upper portion of the earpiece and the ear canal, which further worsens the sound and causes occasional popping as the seal repeatedly forms and releases while running.

I'm not a Vulcan... my ears are not unusually shaped... I'm sure many others face this same problem (and indeed some of the reviews prove that).

Come on, Sennheiser engineers, I challenge you to come up with a solution. These headphones are WAY too good to discontinue... but they need to work well with sweat. What if a ridge was cut in the outer earpiece to prevent the water seal from forming... and also if the tiny holes in the metallic part were shaped differently to prevent the formation of the sweat film?

--Still a loyal Sennheiser fan

Customer Review: PMX70 5 star with 1 flaw
Summary: 5 Stars

I've just recently switch to wrap-around type headphones and love these. There are some threads here that indicate the pressure created on the ears for these are too much, but I did not find that at all. The phones created a perfect fit that eliminated most of the wind/road noise. I use these for running and there is no movement at all once they're in place. The single cord on the left is very nice, heavy and has enough length to do what you need...attach at the waist if you like. I personally use an arm band and prefer shorted cord lengths, so I have excess to deal with.

The color is great!

The only downside that I can come up with is already identified in the threads. Sweat buildup around the earbud. The angle of the bud is perfect for channeling music to the ear, but this also allows for sweat to channel into the earbud as well. I run for hours at a time and even in the northern climates you sweat. The PMX70s are not waterproof and therefore while running I remove them, wipe and put them back in place. For the price, with a little care, you could have a great set of headphones last for quite a while.

If you want waterproof, you'll have to more than double your price and get the PMX80.

Customer Review: Decent, marred by a few flaws
Summary: 3 Stars

I got these to replace the JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (Black), which kept falling out of my ears when I was running. In that respect, this sennheiser headset remedied this problem. They stay in place very well However, there are a few flaws that keep me from completely enjoying these headphones:

1. Uncomfortable fit. There is too much inward pressure, and wearing these becomes very painful after a few minutes.

2. Wind noise. There is noticeable wind drag noise when traveling at speeds 5 mph+. Another reviewer mentioned this problem when cycling; I had it even while jogging. You get used to it after a while, though.

3. Easy to damage. If you set anything on top of the headphones, the section where the dark silver of the band meets the light silver of the headphone housing bends very easily. Mine almost broke and shows a stress discoloration. So be sure not to set anything on top of it.

Sound quality is fine; how much are you going to notice that when you're exercising?

Unfortunately, the fit is so uncomfortable that I will likely not end up keeping them.

Customer Review: The hurt like the dickens
Summary: 2 Stars

I really want to like these headphones. The audio sounds great, very balanced, good bass response, clear and distinct through the range. However they are incredibly painful to wear.

The earbud piece that rests in your ear has little plastic ridges that scrape against your skin and are both painful and irritating, to the point that during my first run with them I was constantly adjusting them in order to find a comfortable position. There was none.

Then I thought that perhaps I could use some left over foam covers to give the headphones some padding. Unfortunately the earphone parts are rather large compared to my other earbuds, so the foam covers tore and would not stay on. I'm thinking that maybe I can affix some felt or other padding to them with superglue; hopefully that will fix things.

Perhaps some of the other reviewers and I just have large heads, or ears formed in such a way that these headphones do not rest properly, however you would think that Sennheiser could have added some sort of permanent rubber sleeve or something to cover up these ridges, which are just way too sharp to be anywhere near sensitive skin. A poor design decision overall, in my opinion.
