Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser PMX 70 Sport Earbud Line Stereo Neckband HeadphoneCustomer Review: Great workout phone Summary: 5 Stars
The PMX 70 headphones have been a good fit for me. I am a large man with a 20+ inch neck and proportional head. These head phones stay put during exercise. They will not fall off and rarely need to be repositioned. I don't know how a smaller head would alter fitment, but they do have flex to them so it is possible. Speaking of flex, these headphones are made of a flexible plastic with a rubber coating in key contact areas to aid grip with your head. This plastic is not able to be bent in all directions like a wire coated in rubber as some reviews led me to believe. The plastic has some flex to it but is cast in one shape and will only distort to a given degree before they would snap. That shape will probably work for you unless you have a very atypical head. I have found these headphones to be excellent for mountain biking as they don't pinch the back of my head when looking up like my old Phillips from Wally*World did. As these are not true in ear monitors they do not block out all surrounding noise which is good for biking. The cord is long and very green. The angle of the jack works great with my Sansa Clip with a vinyl cover installed. The jack seems to be well made and holding up fine considering this is what usually fails first. These headphones are really sweat resistant. If I'm really soaked I might have to pull them off and blow the speakers off, but not a single issue with sound quality yet. SQ is above average for workout phones, but the base will not compare to the Sennheiser CX-300s and other in-ear monitors or their ilk. If you are an audiophile then you already know this. They do not have the transfer noise if you bump the cord like in-ears do and that is very important in a workout phone to me. The highs and mids are good. The EQ on my player likes these phones and they sound as good and mostly better than all my other workout phones with 128+ bps source music and have become the only phones I take with me to exercise. These perform exceptionally well for the price. If you are looking for good work out phones and like around the neck designs then look no further. They are making these in an orange now so you have that option.
Customer Review: Great running headphones for small eared, sweaty people :) Summary: 5 Stars
I've been searching for the perfect running headphones. I just started running this year - for the Nike Half Marathon in October. I have a small head/ears so the in ear headphones pop out while running.. sadly, I also sweat profusely ... so "waterproof" is essential for me in a set of headphones.
Thanks to nkmas for his epinions review!! This is exactly what I was looking for. I was using an OLD pair of Sony Sports Walkman headphones (bright yellow, over the head, vertical in ear) which were decent, but not waterproof. Sony MDR-W20G Vertical In-Ear Headphones with Water-Resistant Design
I do find the Sennheisers a little difficult to put on initially, but after a few minutes, they feel just fine. I actually appreciate the longer cord because I can then put the iPod in a pants pocket rather than on my arm or around my neck (which I hate).
My husband has been 'borrowing' both my iPod and Sennheisers lately, and I am extremely worried about losing them! He's an avid runner and workout-aholic... the only reason I can see that he'd leave them for me, is because he also lifts weights and the back of the neck headband gets in the way. They actually match his green iPod Nano better than my pink one, but I promised not to steal his iPod for fashion's sake.. borrowing is another matter :)!
Oh, did I mention they sound GREAT?!? Much better than the Nike over ear head phones I bought (I returned them immediately because they sounded SO bad!) I'm pretty picky about sound.. and I love the sound of these! They also let in some ambient sound - which is essential for running outside, for safety's sake.
I'm ordering the Sennheiser OMX70s for my husband - preemptive strike against losing mine .. or even in addition to mine :) Sennheiser OMX70 Clip-On Stereo Sport Headphones (Green)
Thanks again, nkmas, you are my hero!
Customer Review: Great for running Summary: 5 Stars
I am a runner (1000+ miles per year)and bought these headphones based on a recommendation from another runner. They are great to use with my Ipod Nano 2G. The headphones sit securely in my ears, do not loosen even after an hour of running on a treadmill in a humid area of the gym where I am dripping with sweat, and produce a nice sound for jazz, rock, and other kinds of music. For the price I was amazed.
Some reviews have complained that the headphones are uncomfortable in their ears and fit too tight. However, everyone's ears are different, so you will have to decide for yourself. I myself like the very snug fit because I can hear the music better, and because there is absolutely no concern about the headphones falling out.
Other reviews have complained about the sound quality. However, these are not high end headphones, and are not meant to be. I myself think that for exercise the sound quality is great, plus without cranking the volume up too high, I am able to drown out not only the sound of the gym music being played in the treadmill area, but also the sound of my feet pounding on the treadmill. So I have a very nice relaxing environment when I am running .
A minor gripe is that the cord is excessively long, but you can easily solve that by clipping the excess cord together. It never bothered me when I ran.
I have used many different headsets over the years, and this one is among my favorites. And it is far superior in sound and convenience to the headset that comes with the iPod.
Update: March 1, 2009: Although these are not noise canceling headphones, I have used these to listen to music on my iPod while in the front seat of a car in which the driver is listening to music on the radio. The radio cannot be heard at all during loud music on my iPod, and only faintly during soft music. These are not a substitute for my Bose noise canceling headphones, but they are so much cheaper and very handy to use on a short trip when I do not want to bring along my Bose headphones.
Customer Review: Perfect for cardio / running and they sound fantastic! Summary: 5 Stars
As many of the other reviews have already stated, these stylish headphones are perfect for running. I already went through about 4 or 5 different kinds of ear buds for the gym, and none of them would stay in my ears during running or elliptical training, not to mention they sounded like crap! I tried several over the ear designs thinking they would be secure, but I guess since my ears stick out some, and are on the smaller side, none of those lived up to expectation.
I ran across these at a Micro Center in Dallas (never saw Sennheiser at any of the other big name stores), and they just looked like they might fit the bill. I was getting tired of buying different ones, so I was really hoping these were the ones. I put them on as soon as I got in my car, and voila! They fit like a charm. Snug with no movement. I shook my head around and they stayed in place perfectly. I even wore them at home for an hour or so listening to my iPod, and they are extremely comfortable. Then - the sound! Wow, these little babies sound great. I'm an audiophile, and am very picky about my sound, from the home, to the car, and now the gym. I didn't want to drop hundreds on some of the premium in ear designs (Shure, Ultimate Ears, etc), because I was going to be working out/sweating a lot with them, and didn't want to damage that kind of equipment. These are perfect because of their rugged plastic/rubber design. You can even wash them. In any case, they sound fantastic. Decent amount of bass, but the mids and highs are extremely detailed. I'm hearing nuances in music that I've listened to for years, if not decades.
Yes, I could have saved $10 or so on the internet, but now that I have them it's not worth the time and hassle to return these and buy them on Amazon. However, I did want to post my review (this is actually the first product review I've ever done) because of how pleased I was to make this find. I feel so strongly about this product that they deserve my time to post this review.
Customer Review: Pricey but functional Summary: 3 Stars
I've had these headphones for about 1 month. I recommend reading all the other reviews for this product before making a decision.
I use them exclusively in the gym while using the cardio equipment to relieve the mind-numbing boredom. I've never used them while jogging outside, I don't get bored while outdoors.
I am a heavy sweater so that was one of my primary concerns about choosing this headset. I didn't want any foam to get all cruddy, and I also didn't like the ear-bud type. I was looking specifically for behind the neck. I also considered the Sony folding sport type (I forget the model number) but two many reviewers said they broke easily.
The Sennheisers aren't the most comfortable phones and I can understand why they could be very uncomfortable depending on the size of your ear opening. My head size is larger than average and I don't find the phones too tight.
I looked around at the various big box stores (Best Buy, Walmart, Circuit Silly, etc.) but I was not able to find this particular model of Sennheiser. It would have been nice to try them out for fit before purchase, but I couldn't find them locally.
Sound quality is on par for a sports headphone. Its nothing like a real headphone, so don't buy it just for listening to music at home. I've had other Sennheiser headphones for home use and I really like them because of their lightweight, open-air design.
One thing that is not mentioned about the product, is that the cord is loosely coiled, sort of like a telephone cord, but very loose. This feature causes the cord to bounce somewhat.
They are more efficient than my original mp3 (creative) player headphones, so I get more sound at a lower volume control setting.
I rated them 3 stars for 2 reasons. I took off one star because I think they are way overpriced. If the comfort level had been supreme, I would have rated them 4 stars. But the comfort is just average, hence my average rating of 3 stars.
