Customer Review: A bit difficult to fit, but pleasant Sennheiser sound

I've had these since 2008 and they've survived countless trips to the gym and outdoor runs. They sound very natural with a slight emphasis on the bass and treble. You can do better in the SQ department for earphones at this price, but those won't be washable under running water or have an *awesome* Kevlar cable. Remember, all of Sennheiser's sport's buds (even the in-ear cx model) have pretty bad sound isolation, so if your gym plays loud music, you should look into an in-ear model(IEM) with FOAM tips, such as models from shure, etymotic, westone that you can wear with the cord over the ear to reduce microphonics(aka cable-noise or the stethoscope effect. These won't be sweat proof, but isolate extremely well and the some -- like the newly released and budget priced shure se215 -- have a nice durable (and replaceable) cable.
I use the omx80 for the weight lifting and I also have the newer pmx680 for running. If you don't expect to do exercises while you're on your back (i.e. bench press, sit-ups, etc) then I'd pick the pmx over the omx for a superior fit and less frustrating single sided cable(Though the omx80 has more clarity and detail than pmx680). The 680 versions are better designed than the 80, so I'd strongly suggest you pick those. The 80 have metal grills and metal pieces next to the driver housing that can(and will) rust over time (which is not hard to do if you're washing them under running water) whereas the 680 seem like an all plastic affair(I think). Also, despite what other reviewers say, the split volume control cable on the 680 series is very useful to have if you're a armband user, and with the extension attached it isn't any longer or heavier than the 80 series.
Some fit tips for the omx80:
-Try using the larger silicone "tips". These seal better for me which gives better bass response. Again, if you can't get a good fit, you might want to consider the pmx680 since these have the buds angles in a way that makes it impossible to have a bad fit. Everyone's ears are different so these might just not work for you.
-It's a J cable, so the right bud's cable goes behind your neck. I find the best place to use the shirt clip is to place it right underneath the y-junction and clip it to my shirt collar. That way, the weight of the cable or a accidental tug won't pull the left earbud out when you're moving, which can happen if you're not careful and snag the cable on something.
-When you first get these they probably won't stay on your ears perfectly (I was ready to throw them against the wall at first, because they were sooo uncomfortable). You really have to work with the wire in the earclips to mold it into the right position. It takes time, but you're patience will be rewarded with a good fit. Don't be too afriad to bend these -- they won't break so easily. I'm pretty sure there's a thick steel or copper wire in there.
Finally, the included case is rubbish -- it's just way to small. Trying to cram your earbuds in it will only shorten the life of your omx80 as you're bound to be bending the stain reliefs going to the jack and earbuds unecessarily when you cram them into that tiny case. Get another case that's big enough to fit the omx80 with the cord gently wrapped, and you'll extend it's usable life. Also, if you're wrapping your omx80 around your phone or ipod, than you have no reason to complain when they die.
