Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser MX85 Sport Series II Twist to Fit EarbudsCustomer Review: The almost perfect running earphones Summary: 4 Stars
I've used these twist to fit headphones for nearly two years now. I have used them for so long because they are the best running headphones I have found. Unfortunately, there are no perfect running headphones out there. The biggest reason I stick with these headphones is because they simply do not fall out of my ears. Every other earbud style headphones I have tried pop right out and are impossible for me to use. I have a pair of Philips inner ear earbuds that also have a hook that go over the top of my ears that stay nicely; but since they are inner ear style, they work like earplugs that block out most outside sounds. Since I run on city streets a lot, having sound blocked out is dangerous, but the Sennheiser twist-to-fit earphones let in an adequate amount of sound to notice any cars creeping up behind ya. Being that these twist-to-fit headphones are ear bud style, they have an advantage over something like the Sennheiser PMX-70. If you run outdoors in the sun like I do, they don't interfere with your hat/sunglasses like the PMX-70 do. They also fit nicely in your pocket and u can easily pop an earbud out to talk to your running buddy. These headphones also seem to work fine no matter how much I sweat. My Philips headphones start to go a bit buggy on my sweatier runs. I also like that the chord goes into the plug at a 90 degree angle.
The biggest downside to the twist-to-fit earphones is the chord is WAY too long. At 5'7", I'm not very tall, but I believe that even a 7' tall runner would find themselves getting tangled in the amount of chord they give you. I bought a gadget at my local running store that helps manage the chord length, but still having the chord-tamer bouncing on my chest as I run is a bit annoying. These headphones are also quite uncomfortable the first few times you use them, but you do get used to them and now I barely even notice they're there. The sound quality isn't great, but good enough for listening while running, you just probably wouldn't use them for anything else. I would love to see Sennheiser make an iPhone version of these headphones one day. I use the Nike+ GPS app while running so I would love to have a pair of headphones that let me control my phone and has a built in microphone. If Sennheiser were to do that and shorten the chord, then these would be the PERFECT running earphones.
