Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser MX500 Lightweight In-Ear Headphone (Blue) with Carrying CaseCustomer Review: Realize that there is a volume switch on this wire! Summary: 4 Stars
Okay, this is an edited review. I thought the volume on these was atrocious, but actually I didn't see the volume switch on the chord (which I must say doesn't exactly stand out) and it was set to "Min". So my real rating would be 4 or a 5. In terms of value, definately a 5.
The sound range is great, the comfort is quite good, the earbuds might be slightly too big in terms of comfort, but I guess that makes them not fall out as easily. I like that the lengths of the two wires to the ears are actually equal (I don't know what idiotic product designer thought it would be a good idea to start that trend of having one be short and constantly tugging at my ear). The windup function, though nothing new to the market, is also a convenient function for me since my old ones would always get tangled up in the front pocket of my backpack.
edit 2: Not the most durable earphones, I seem to replace them every couple of years, but they're cheap so why not?
Customer Review: It's cheap. Only cheap. Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this pair and returned after one-day try. This pair is so cheap that you can't beat the price. However, you also can't expect the performance. The sound really disppoints me. I had SONY MDR-888SP, which is among the top pair. The reason I bought this one is because my MDR-888 is sort cord and I need a long cord one. Unlike the clear, crispy and fully detailed sound from MDR-888SP, this one is just like you are listening to an old radio. Not even compete my crapy MDR-805. Just for the price someone might be able to suffer it, I'm not. And this pair is very uncomfortable for me. It hurts my ear after merely 15min usage. It is too big for me, even without the sponge. However, the SONY MDR-888 is so comfortable. In general, if you are not so picky for sound qualify but picky for price, it's a good choice. Otherwise, don't try it. BTW, the carrying case is so nice that I really want to keep it for my MDR-888 before returning.
Customer Review: Best Earbuds for the Money Summary: 5 Stars
For about $20, and often less for persevering shoppers, Sennheiser has produced a fine set of earbuds.
The MX-500's give you a transparent, detailed, expansive and engaging sound that is reasonably neutral across the frequency band. They provide balanced, detailed bass (no one insistent on "THUNKA-THUNKA" need apply here) sparkling highs and a smooth midrange.
IMHO, last year's MX-500's easily outperform this year's successor, the MX-450/550. (See also my review of the MX-450/550's on Amazon.)
The MX-500's hold their own in my dedicated, "high end" headphone system, and in my very modest A/V system (paired with Sennheiser's DSP-360 for late night movie viewing).
The Sennheiser MX-500's are a genuine bargain, an excellent value and are destined to be a classic in the budget earbud category. So, buy at least two pair(s): one for you, and one for your posterity!
Customer Review: Good stuff Summary: 4 Stars
Being an audio engineer I am quite picky about the sound products that I purchase. For the most part these guys have past the test. Young people listen to rap and R&B now. When the music is mixed and mastered there is a great emphasis on lower end. Point being, if you are in to rap and R&B and the like then these are not the best phones for you. I did a side by side comparison with the I-pod phones and the I-pod won hands down in bass. These I-pod phones are "hyped" in the bottom end but do not have the clarity of the Sennheiser MX-500s. The Sennheiser MX-500 do not color the sound like other headphones, they just give you a crisp natural image of the sound. If you need more bass, you can always use the bass boost on your cd player. In my humble opinion, I would suggest the Sennheiser MX-500s because they are much clearer sounding overall and you can't beat the price.
Customer Review: Great for the price Summary: 4 Stars
These are great earbuds, with some small caveats:
If you have small ears they will be uncomfortable. I have larger ears and I have to fuss with them to get the position just right.
The little foam covers on the buds seem delicate and have fallen off a few times.
The cord is short (maybe 3 ft) which is fine for a portable player, but is awkward for using with many computers or other non handheld components. I just got a miniplug extension cord at radioshack to fix that, and it is great.
On the plus side:
The sound is very clean and natural sounding with no excess bass or treble.
I did not realize it for over a month, but there is a tiny linear volume control on the cord, which is very nice.
This are the most recommended cheaper earbuds ( I did a lot of review searching), and I wholeheartedly agree.
