Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser MX 75 Twist-To-Fit Stereo Sport EarbudsCustomer Review: I love these earphones, BUT... Summary: 4 Stars
I am an avid runner and got my first set of these in January 2007. I've used them with my Ipod Nano during runs - on average a 5-7 mile combined walk/run about 4 times a week.
The two major plusses: excellent, excellent, excellent, excellent sound quality and the earbuds rarely fall out.
The sound quality is superb - you can truly tune the rest of the world out and get absorbed in your music. The design means that the plugs rarely if ever slip out of your ear. On a five mile run - it might happen once - and that was here in Houston where you are super sweaty with the high humidity.
Some things to keep in mind:
My earphones just wore out last week because one of the wires finally broke on it. I blame it on me tugging on the wires during runs - first the plastic cover got a tear then eventually one of the wires tore and it stopped working in the middle of a workout.
The green plastic caps that go on the top part of the earbud - these have a tendency to fall off during runs. I eventually lost one of them. Without the green caps the earbud will fall out of your ear more frequently. My recommendation would be to superglue these on once you get the headphones.
The wires are long and dangly - when running you will have thin wires dangling way out. Might have to get creative with tucking these in through your shirt or something.
The neon green color - not the best but I got used to it.
I was so happy with this product that I plan on ordering another set (cheaper now too). I still feel like I got my money's worth with the first pair.
Customer Review: great sound, comfortable fit Summary: 5 Stars
These headphones look funny, with that extra protrusion sticking from the top of them. But in my ears, the extra protrusion slips underneath a fold of cartilage that comfortably and securely holds the earphone in place, no matter how I position or shake my head. The sound of the earphones is wonderful -- much better than the stock iPod earphones. I use them with my iPod touch with the bass boost turned on, and I am blown away by the great sound. They sound fine without the bass boost, but the added bass gives them a full, natural sound.
I have a friend who has small ears, and these do not fit properly in her ears. But if you have average-sized ears, I think they will probably work fine for you. In my ears, I do not do any twisting to make them fit. The extra protrusion just fits very nicely in my ear when they are in a vertical position. The earphones come with different sizes of soft rubber pieces that allow you to customize the fit for your ear, to a degree. The carrying case is very nice and has a cool magnetic closure that feels deluxe.
The plug has a 90° bend in it. I am paranoid about damaging my electronic gear, particularly plugs and knobs and switches. I suspect that the design of this plug makes it easier to damage the iPod earphone jack if you yank on the cable. So, if I am listening to the iPod when it is in my pocket, I am tempted to use the standard Apple earphone, which has a plug that sticks straight out and not very far. But I really prefer the sound of the Sennheiser earphones, and with reasonable care, I doubt that damage to the earphone jack is likely.
Customer Review: Innovation is great--but cheap headphones are better Summary: 2 Stars
This is based on about 8 months of use a few times a week. I use them during cario so sweat is a big factor...
*Cord:*
Pro: This has actually held up for me just fine, it hasn't deteriorated yet.
Con: It wants to curl up like no other cord I've used--a minor annoyance.
*Jack:*
Pro: Nothing has become disconnected. The cord to jack connection is in great shape (very technical talk here!).
*Earbuds:*
Pros: The system worked for me very well, keeping the buds in my ear even in the hardest (and sweatiest) of workouts.
Cons: * The metal mesh has oxidized and has resulted in rusty residue getting under the green rubber around the bud.
* They stay in your ear--but stop working about 15 minutes into a run as the good plug fit traps water in your ear. This is often just one ear (randomly) and is very annoying.
*Sound:*
Fine. I mean, whatever--I'm running so I just want music. I'm not critiquing the sound while I run. They're not that great but I didn't buy them for superior sound quality. I bought them specifically for high sweat use and am willing to sacrifice sound quality for sound that actually stays in my ear and works! That being said, they don't even do that very well.
*Bottom line:*
Better than the average ear buds IF you're going to use them for sport. They DO stay in MY ears but cease to work with only a few beads of sweat finding their way into the ear. A cheap pair of foam covered head phones perform better under sweaty conditions than these so why spend more? I did but maybe never again.
Customer Review: Generally good, a few niggles resulting from design braindeadness Summary: 4 Stars
We'll start with the good, seeing as I am giving four stars; nice mid-tones and trebles for miniature headphones. Also, if you have very big ears as I do, you're going to have some difficulty finding earbuds that will stay in your ears as securely as these do, and so this style of design may be your only bet if you want earbuds rather than in-ear phones. I needed both the large earbud rubber and the large outer ear disc even to fit these. My reason for buying them was that Apple's own phones, though really quite good, didn't stay in my ears securely enough when I was moving around because the cartilage in my ear doesn't close tightly enough around at the bottom.
Flaws -- the big one is the offset cable. It puts all the strain on the left ear, while the line to the right is too long even when draped around the back of your neck as the manufacturer apparently intended. Also, the outer ear disc should really point in the other direction for comfort; these aren't as comfortable in the ear as basic earbuds, though they do stay in well. If you leave phones in your ears for hours at a time, you may want to consider something else.
Depending on user preference, some may feel these have inadequate bass. If your ears hold the Apple earbuds tightly, you will probably find they have more bass than these do. However, for me these have a fuller sound because they are held securely against my ear. Personally I think it is a good compromise.
Value for money -- right on at the $30 I paid. Just another contender at $42..
Customer Review: Its a good idea, getting them to fit is very difficult Summary: 2 Stars
OK, so i needed a pair of headphones for the gym. My Sony in-ear ones kept falling out once they got sweaty. So after some research, I came across these. I have to admit, I did like the concept and it seems like they would do the job.
These come with a number of different headphone covers as well as 3 different sized "anchor" pads. The different attachments are to help you get the fit right.
So on the first day of use I chose a combination of pads and anchors I thought would fit right. (both large). So I go to the gym. The first thing i noticed was that the left earphone would not seat correctly. There wasnt a good seal with the ear, so I got decent sound in my right, but leaking ambient sound in the left. I proceeded to twist, wedge, slide, etc... the left headphone and I couldn't get it to seat properly.
The next time I went to the gym, i tried a different combination of pad and anchors, same issues. Couldn't get the left ear to fit properly, leaking in ambient noise and it drove me crazy. I spend a half hour in the gym constantly tweaking, removing, reseating and I cant get it to fit.
I repeat the above process with other combinations until I realize that these headphones are way to finicky to get right. I tried Sennheisers website and there is no help there, the included instructions didn't help either.
So these are going to end up in the trash and my quest for stable in-ear headphones continues.
So give it a shot, but your mileage may vary.
