Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser MX 75 Twist-To-Fit Stereo Sport EarbudsCustomer Review: Good sound but annoying curling wires Summary: 4 Stars
Sennheiser MX75 Twist-To-Fit In-Ear Stereo Sport Headphones
I bought the Sennheiser MX75 twist-to-fit headphones and have been mostly pleased with the purchase.
PRO: The twist-to-fit design fits my ear perfectly and allows me to hear better sound at a lower volume because it stays in place. I walk at a brisk pace and it stays in place without falling out, unlike other headphones I have owned. I have worn the earphones for as long as 1 1/2 hours at one time and they continued to be comfortable. However, my ears were not sweaty, which may make it less comfortable after a while as some reviews noted.
CON: I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 because, like many others who left reviews, I hate the curling wires. I prefer straight wires because they do not get twisted around everything they touch. However, I have learned how to store it in a way that lessens this issue. I also find that the wires, at times, have minds of their own and do not always stay where I want it to stay (they sometimes creep up to near my chin, which is annoying). Also, by design, the right wire is longer than the left wire. I personally like the wires to be the same length. The headphones are also not the nicest color (green), which makes it more conspicuous. I cannot comment on how well the wires hold up as I have only had these headphones for 2 weeks. So far, they seem to be made well.
Summary: I think the positives outweigh the negatives. I am still happy with the purchase because of the good sound quality and excellent fit for my ears. It is a good headphone choice if you exercise or use it while doing any sports activity, like brisk walking.
Customer Review: Wife loves them... Summary: 4 Stars
I bought these for my wife as she has had perpetual issues with earphones falling out of her ear. Although it took her a while to get used to the twist-to-to fit technology, she now wears them with no complaints. The bass response on these earphones is quite remarkable. You get excellent sound quality as is expected Sennheiser. This are my opinions on the headphones: The water resistant technology that is put into these earphones is excellent for people who perform rigorous exercise or simply for those who sweat a lot. The biggest drawback with these earphones is comfort. I have, in my opinion, average sized ears. I cannot wear these earphones for longer than a 30 minutes before I notice a slight discomfort. This makes these headphones perfect for exercise, as they will most definitely not fall out of your ears. If you do a lot of music listening through earphones, however, these will not work as a substitute pair. For that, I suggest looking at other sennheiser earphones without the twist-to-fit technology. I am, nevertheless, very happy with this product as my main exercise earphones and would make the purchase again for that specific purpose. I purchased the MX85 (the orange ones) for myself in order to take advantage of a rebate that Sennheiser was offering. I notice no sonic difference between the MX85 and MX75. In terms of comfort, the ear pads that come with the MX85 aren't as stiff, but don't justify the price difference between the models. I suggest you contact Sennheiser and ask them if the they will honor the warranty from the specific company you are purchasing from. You must buy directly from Amazon, not from someone else through Amazon in order to get the warranty benefit. As these are bound to get wet, I highly recommend that.
Customer Review: Extremely disappointing Summary: 2 Stars
I waited for more than six months to write this review because I wanted to see how the headphones would hold up to use. The verdict: not well at all.
As others have mentioned, getting these to fit is a bit tricky. After a few tries, though, you figure out how to pop them in and out fairly quickly, and then they stay put. I never did manage to get a seal, which meant that I dealt with a good deal of noisy background music while at the gym. But the sound quality is pretty good and the headphones delivered enough bass to satisfy me. I did not have trouble with the long cord on the right side- I just used the clip provided to keep it attached to my shirt.
Well, that's the good news. I bought the headphones only seven months ago, and they are falling apart. The insulation on the wiring is extremely flimsy and started tearing about a month ago, despite the fact that I ALWAYS kept the headphones neatly rolled up in the case when they were not in use. I didn't snag them on anything, either. The "extremely rugged cable" as Sennheiser calls it, is ridiculously thin. Also, the right earbud has stopped working and produces barely audible sound. All of this occurred WITHOUT abuse, exposure to excess water, heat exposure, etc. I took good care of these headphones, and frankly, I'm extremely disappointed in them. They're supposed to be tough, durable sport headphones- I would have expected that they last through at least a year.
UPDATE: Sennheiser's customer service department immediately responded to my request for service. They are sending me a replacement this week. Although I can't say I recommend this product, I do recommend Sennheiser products as a whole-- FABULOUS customer service and generally high quality headphones.
Customer Review: Tangles Summary: 2 Stars
I bought these headphones wanting better sound quality than the Apple headphones (which are not bad but there is better) for my iPod. While the MX75 headphones have decent sound quality and I like the Sennheiser brand, I dislike this product for a variety of other reasons.
1. I have ergonomic issues with it. It is questionable about how to wear them. The photo by S. Pretti at the top of this Amazon page seems useful and accurate! I wish I had seen this before. However, when I tried this "insert and twist" method, my ears hurt after a while. Wearing the headphones any longer became too uncomfortable.
2. The "build quality" is lacking for my headphones. The green rubber ear pads fall off and need replacing. While the package comes with extras (or alternatives), eventually I ran out or lost them all. I now have a hard plastic tip where the green rubber pad used to be. It hasn't been that long - 6 months? Now it really hurts to wear them.
3. Another "build quality" issue is the green rubber surrounding the headphone jack. This separated from the jack, leaving the wire exposed.
4. This is the most tangly set of headphones! The headphones have a penchant for latching and catching. Like the worst X-mas tree lights, I have to untangle for every use, and it requires concentration and time to untangle the mess.
All in all, I expected these "sport" headphones to last a few years from everyday use, and they didn't. Instead they lasted a number of months, and that is too short. It's time to get new headphones, and while I might get another Sennheiser product, I won't be getting this product again.
I was happy with the decent sound quality.
Customer Review: Ready For Running Summary: 4 Stars
Sennheiser MX75 Twist-To-Fit In-Ear Stereo Sport Headphones
The MX75 headphones are of a different breed when compared to other work-out headphones. One of the first things you notice is that there is a funky little nub above the actual ear piece. I really didn't know what the heck this was used for until i saw a video demo on youtube somewhere. anyways, here are my thoughts on this product.
Design:
- i don't like to be too flashy when i goto the gym and these headphones are completely the opposite. the neon green does stand out a little but once i put it on the wires hide behind my neck and go under my shirt so i really dont mind in the end. the actual ear pieces look kind of big once they are in your ear but it grew on me and now i don't really mind at all. overall it is a very nice design.
Function:
- The reason i bought these basically was because i went through at least 4 different work-out headphones and they all didn't do a good job. if they didnt now provide different sizes for the little nub on top then i would be mad but i use the biggest circle and it has a nice snug fit in my ear.
- I ran about 5 miles with the earphones and they did not budge at all! my hand naturally went up to adjust the earphone but i kept realizing that they haven't moved since the start of my run.
Sound:
- the sound is good enough, it hasn't bothered me so i guess it sounds fine.
PROS:
- sticks in my ear
- nice design and colors
CONS:
- sound is good enough
- maybe hurt ears that are sensitive
