Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser HD201 Lightweight Over-Ear Binaural HeadphonesCustomer Review: Superb! Better than the Sony V700 DJ! Summary: 5 Stars
I have the Sony MDR V700 which is valued at 154.95 at BestBuy! I saw it and tried it out because they had one out on display, and of course, it sounds great when you don't have anything to compare it to. So I was set on buying it for it's look, sound, and the overpriced brand name of Sony. I managed to buy it used from someone. The condition looks very good, and sounds great. So I thought I was all set.
The guy I bought the Sony V700 even suggested I look into Sennheiser if great sound is what I'm after. I wanted to because of all their great reviews, but there aren't any places around that offer displays of Sennheiser so that you can test the product out. Anyway, my brother found a Sennheiser HD201 so finally I could test out what all this talk is about. Mind you the HD201 is at least 3 times less than the Sony V700.
I was pretty shocked. The Sony couldn't filter out the buzz that I normally get when connecting to my crappy speakers. The Sennheiser did. It filtered it out, had better sound quality and better lightweight feel. You can actually hear each musical note, rather than have it drowned out by the bass which is what the Sony does. Don't believe the brand name hype of Sony because it's not that great--if you compare it to Sennheiser! Sony's higher-end DJ headphones can't even compare with the lower end of Sennheiser! It was clear to me. Good luck!
Customer Review: Good For Large Heads - Not Tight or Uncomfortable Summary: 5 Stars
First of all, I always heard movie stars have large heads, as people with large heads are more photogenic. But when it comes to headphones, as a large headed individual, it's not quite as fun as they pinch and it's hard to wear them for long. So as fun as it is being photogenic, finding hats and headphones is a pain.
I snapped my Boise headphones in half trying to 'stretch' out those flimsy little things. But these Sennheiser HD201's are sturdy, comfortable, loose enough to where I don't notice them, have a loooong cord and are at the lower end of the price range. However, I'm not any professional in music that I can tell quality differences in sound. These sound about just as well as any headphones, but the important thing for me is I won't get frustrated and rip them apart trying to get them to be more comfortable. AND they fit OVER the ears, not sit on top of them, which is also uncomfortable.
I was a bit hesitant to buy these because of the price with 'you get what you pay for' showing up in so many of these reviews. But not now, I'm buying another pair for work - ear buds would be better looking, but I'm wary of the hearing loss associated with them (just my own opinion).
So, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, The Rock, Arnold Swartzenegger and I will be wearing these on our big heads, as I'm sure they will all read this review!
Customer Review: Sennheiser HD201 - Wonderful buy for the money...!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for a decent headphone to watch movies in laptop and hear songs from my iPhone. Since my ear is little big, most of the in-ear headphones don't fit into my ears. I got this in a deal for $13 from NewEgg. With lot of good reviews from the forum users and Amazon customers, I went ahead with this buy. When I got this headphone, I was first impressed with its light weight, smooth leather finish sponge, long cord and professional design. When I connected to my iTunes, it could only say "WOWWWWWWWW....!!!" All songs were crisp clear, with no distortion, nice & balanced bass and decent noise isolation. Just two days before I was hearing BOSE AE2 in a Target store just by chance. Believe me, I don't see any big difference between the high priced BOSE and Sennheiser HD201. In many reviews, I read that HD202 has nice and thumping bass. Since I'm not a big fan of bass, I went ahead with this headphone. I really would recommend this headphone to anyone who would like NOT to invest a huge amount and expecting a nice sound with decent noise isolation.
One discomfort I could see is after wearing this headphone for more than 20mins, I feel little uneasiness (some sort of sweatiness and heat) in ears since the whole ear is tightly closed with leather cup. I guess this experience would be same even with BOSE QuietComfort headphones which has closed cup.
Customer Review: For ~$20 US, excellent. Summary: 4 Stars
I listen to music frequently, and though I could not honestly consider myself a TRUE audiophile (an audiophile being a person willing to spend $100 on a certain type of speaker cable for "maximum audio quality), I am definetly familiar with audio equipment that sounds good. I spent $100+ on an Audigy 2 soundcard, a card that has made a significant impact on the enjoyability of my listening experiences on my comp, and $200 on a decent set of speakers, and those are the two largest audio purchases I've made in a long time.
I've used several different "studio-style" headphones over the past few years, and while the HD201s are not at the top of my list, they make a close second. The bass isn't quite as powerful as I'd hope it'd be, but it was actually more powerful than I expected (high hopes, low expectations, that's me). Treble's fine, though it can be a bit ringy at times.
I mainly got these to:
1) Listen to music sometimes at night when everyone is asleep.
2) Listen to music at work during break.
3) Listen to myself practicing guitar, so I don't drive everyone in my household nuts.
If you need headphones for any of the above reasons, or similar ones, I'd suggest giving these a shot. They're durable, comfortable, and have better sound than most anything else you'd get for ~$20.
Customer Review: Lacking Full Sound, w/ a Cord That's WAY Too Long!! Summary: 4 Stars
Not that long ago (a few months back), I downgraded to the 201s from the 202s. My 202s lasted for just over a year, and they were very impressive for non-budget breaking headphones. The sound was amazing, the bass was sweet, and the headphones were very comfy for me to wear.
With the 201s, I definitely noticed that the sound is not nearly as impressive as the 202s or anything else above it. Still, it's alright, and not too bad, until i get a chance to get the 202s or something higher again. My biggest issue with Sennheiser, is the fact that the cord is a serious accident waiting to happen. Honestly, I don't need headphone cords that are 10 feet long. I'm not willing to wrap the cord up a bit either, and risk the possibility of something else happening. Far too many times, my legs have got caught up in this ridiculously long cord, and caused my headphones to fall. Luckily, they're good quality, so I don't worry about them going out, just because they fell on the floor.
If you're looking for something basic, where you don't care much about the best sound, something that just simply works, then I'd definitely recommend these. However, if you want much better sound, it would be wise to try something like the HD202 model, or try something more high end from Sennheiser, which means a higher price tag. Thanks Amazon!
