Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser HD201 Lightweight Over-Ear Binaural HeadphonesCustomer Review: Epic budget headphones Summary: 5 Stars
First off, look at the price. Yeah, these aren't going to be ruddy quality, no matter how many awesome 5-star reviews they are.
For $20, however, these headphones feel like I paid much more money. The quality is absolutely excellent. I can easily hear many different levels of sound and it is an enjoyable experience. The comfort is above par. I can go several hours with these on and not get irritated or uncomfortable.
The surprising feature to these are its ability to block out sound. Now no, it doesn't block out EVERY sound, but it is a noticeable difference. I'm a freshman living in a freshman dorm and it successfully blocks out raucous in the hallway, my roommate's tv, and loud noises from outside.
I have two complaints about these headphones, though they are rather trivial and shouldn't be taken into too much consideration. One is that the length of cable is pretty long. Maybe it's just me, but I'm using these on my laptop which is, y'know, a foot in front of me. I don't need six feet (which is how long it seems, though I admit I didn't measure haha) of wire to futz with. The other thing I dislike is that it does feel a little cheap. You really can't afford to be too rough with them, mostly where the adjustable headband meets with the earphone. It seems very fragile.
In short, these are amazing headphones if you are not an audiophile and need some quality headphones for day to day usage. The price can't be beat, and the quality is fantastic. I have them on right now. :)
Customer Review: Excellent product!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I received this item as part of the PepsiStuff promotion as a reward item. I tried the headphones with my laptop and found that the sound was excellent, even at low volume. I had to turn down the volume on my laptop because it gave an excellent volume response, more than I was comfortable with until I turned the laptop volume down. I am not one to have my headphones at a level so that people 100 feet away can hear what you are listening to, but I did have the volume up for a short time and didn't notice any distortion. I had the TV on at the time I was using them and had no problems hearing my music at reasonable volume. There is an extra long cord on the unit, but I view that as a plus. A short cord is OK until you might want to be a litte further away from your stereo or home entertainment system, then you are out of luck. With these headphones, you have the extra length you need to watch TV in bed without bothering your spouse, play your computer game from the recliner instead of the desk chair (with a wireless controller, of course), or anything else where the extra length is a godsend. For more normal use where you don't need the extra cord length, just take a twist tie and secure the unneeded length or just leave it the way it comes in the package.
I am not a music snob but I found these headphones to be an excellent value if you purchased them at the listed price on Amazon.com. Of course, if you get them free from the PepsiStuff promotion, like I did, that is even better!!!
Customer Review: Outstanding Product, Especially For the Price Summary: 5 Stars
I work offshore and use these headphones to listen to the TV at my bunk, as well as music from my laptop. And frankly I'm more than pleased with these headphones. The dynamic range is wonderful, and they deliver great stereo effect, while at the same time giving a full compliment of frequency ranges. In short, I can clearly hear what's going on, and it sounds like I'm "there". And since I'm on a rig, the headphone's ability to cut out outside noise is important, and these deliver there as well.
The only thing that may concern some of you, and this is not a problem for me, is that they don't pull a lot of volume though. It's almost as though they have some kind of filter so that the higher you turn up the volume on the source, the less that comes through the 'phones. Or at least it seems that way to me. They do increase in volume, but less and less as you turn up the source. Don't get me wrong. They're plenty loud for casual listening, and even more. But if you're looking to rock out and ruin your hearing in the process, these won't do it for you.
All in all, I'm very, very pleased with these and look forward to using them here on the rig for a long time. And the next time I look for another set of headphones, I don't need to shop any other brand. Sennheiser has made a fan of me. After all, once you've found something that has exceeded your expectations, why shop elsewhere. Now if only they made home audio speakers.....
Customer Review: Decent *only* relative to their price--I'd recommend other options Summary: 3 Stars
These headphones are a very strange. For $20, regardless of sound quality, you'd expect the headphones to be designed/paired with inexpensive, low-power audio devices. Like an Ipod. After all, what person that has the money for a $500 receiver or a $250+ headphone amp is going to choose these $20 headphones? Nevertheless, that's exactly what you need in order to get *anything* even semi-impressive on bass-wise out of these. Just look at the impedence specs and you'll see that they'll be a *terrible* choice for all low-output devices.
Is the clarity impressive for $20? Yes. But beyond that they're totally underwhelming from lower-power audio sources--tinny with no balance whatsoever. In other words, they're exactly what you expect for $20--headphones with severe flaws. Not sure what all the 4-and-5 star reviews are about at all.
If you *have* to have closed headphones in this price range and are listening from a low-power source, buy something else, any $20 closed Koss model will give you better results from low power sources than these. What I'd really recommend though is you move up to at least $40ish for the Phillips HP460, or to $60 for the Sony MDR-V6, as there's a HUGE quality difference in the sound quality related to closed headphones as you move up the pricerange. If you MUST spend only $20, go to "open" headphones such as Koss KSC-75 or Sennheiser PX100 instead where you get much better bang for your buck.
Customer Review: Nice cans Summary: 4 Stars
I originally bought a pair of these headphones about five years ago while overseas for my home music studio (Hip Hop, R&B, Alternative). I like the reviews at the time, most pointed that they were a good to great pair of cans for flat response needed for quality mixing, with one of the common "knocks" being that they were a bit TOO flat, not having enough bass response.
Somewhere with the move back to the states, getting adjusted, etc, my headphones snapped. I relied on subpar headphones to produce/mix during all my frequent business engagements on the road and overseas, so the dip in quality really showed in some of the recordings. I finally broke down and repurchased these and haven't regret them one bit!
Nice starter headphones for guys/gals on a tight budget, but just enough in the quality category to get you started. Pretty durable and a long enough cord to let you roam around a bit. While I do agree with the original reviews when purchased as far as not getting a LOT of bass response with these, it really does give you a true measuring stick of where you need to take your EQ levels when recording. At lot of times people produce/mix with headphones with TOO much bass response and it really distorts their mixes and finished cuts. At the end of the day, you're going to have to check it out on a stereo/car system to truly gauge the end results anyway.
Definitely worth grabbin!
