Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser HD 212 Lightweight Semi-Circumaural Headphones - SilverCustomer Review: Great Bass, Comfortable, and great noise-cancellation Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this pair for five days now, and I have to honestly say that these are the best pair of headphones available in the mid-range price. If you love hip-hop, strong beat music, these are the best headphones you'll find for this price, heck even for under $100. The Bass is truly amazing, you have to experience it to believe it. If you're into Pop, rock, you'll still experience excellent quality, but you might have to turn down the bass on your media player settings. All in all, these are the best all around headphones you'll find for this price. And if you love to feel your head vibrating with true deep, crisp bass, THESE ARE A MUST BUY! Both treble and bass work brilliantly at the high volumes, and pretty well at the low volumes too. You won't get fuzzy music at all. Conclusion: Crisp treble, accurate sound, incredible bass even at high volumes. Not only are these headphones comfortable, they are light-weight too. I have big ears and a reasonably big head, and I can easily wear these for two hours non-stop without red ears, even with glasses. My sister who has a smaller head and ears loves the headphones too. Conclusion: Comfort is not an issue with these headphones. Probably my second favourite thing about these phones (besides the sound) is the noise cancellation. These phones have made riding on the subway a divine experience. With these on, I can close my eyes, and imagine anywhere the music takes me. Furthermore, these work great at the library, especially at moderate to moderately high volumes. A person studying next to me couldn't hear a thing at 75% volume. This is great for me since I'm at college, and can blast my Third Eye Blind music without disturbing my room mate. Conclusion: Great noise-cancellation. So if you have a budget of $40 - $100 and looking for the best headphones and/or the best value, get these. I can't emphasize this enough: these are incredible headphones. Trust me, you'll be thanking me for the next few years.
Customer Review: One of My Favorites Summary: 5 Stars
I upgraded to these after my Sennheiser HD201's broke (the jack got bent and I wasn't able to fix it). It was quite a leap I'd have to say.
The 212's are very comfortable. They felt slightly tight when I first got them, but they got looser. They remain tight enough so that their weight doesn't rest squarely on the top of my head and mash my hair down. The design of these allow for some sound isolation, though enough sound escapes through so that you can hear what's going around you to an extent. Sennheiser seems to be renowned for making durable stuff. I've dropped these multiple times and these still work like new.
Sound quality on these is very high. My audiophile brother has a set of Sennheiser HD-555's so I can give a comparison between the two. Their frequency responses are very similar. Of course, these have more bass (I'm used to IEM's that have high bass, so I can't say that these have a lot of bass though), but these can't reproduce a certain part of the mid-range as well as the 555's. The main difference between the two, far as i can tell, is sound depth. The 555's give more of a sense of surround sound and "distance" between instrument types and such. There's probably a better way to say this, but I lack the proper audiophile sense.
I would do a comparison to the HD201's if they either were not broken or if I could remember exactly how their sound quality was. So far, no IEM's that I've been able to get my hands on sound anywhere as clear as the 212's. That doesn't say much though, since I haven't used any that are over $25. I will update this if I ever get some Shures or any of the other expensive types.
Generally, these are an excellent choice for both average listeners and audiophiles on a budget. Though there are better headphones out there, I am perfectly content with these and do not plan to get anything more expensive unless these spontaneously self-destruct.
Customer Review: Excellent headphones Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased these from Amazon a couple months back and I must admit that they are awesome. At the time I was planning to buy a portable jukebox (Nomad Jukebox 2), and was familiar with the concept of packaged headphones. Packaged headphones let you listen to music, they don't let you experience it. So after purchasing the jukebox, these headphones arrived shortly after. When I tried them for the first time I immediately noticed the nice clean sound coming from these headphones. I love Rap, R&B, Alternate, Metal, etc. I definately love bass. These headphones definately deliver on the bass. Throw in an equalizer and you'll be in bass heaven. With regards to a comfortable fit, that varies from user to user. At first they weren't very comfortable, but after continued usage they began to fell like a part of my head. lol. When I'm on campus, everyone that I let listen to music using these headphones are amazed at the sound quality. Because its a closed headphone, it blocks out most of the sound. I'm not sure how long the cord is, but its probably 9-12 feet. While this headphone is great for most music, I wouldn't recommend it for those into classical and other types of music that doesn't really use bass. It definately was made for those who want more bass in their music. When you first use these headphones the sound quality will be awesome, but I wouldn't suggest turning the music up too loud until after some hours of usage. I hooked mine up to the stereo and turned the volume up to an acceptable level and left it playing over night. The sound quality does get better. While I loved these headphones so much, I decided to give away mine. Actually, I accidentally left it in a classroom and someone took it. At least they'll be listening to some good music. Because they're so good, I just added another to my cart. As soon as I have the money I'm buying it.
Customer Review: These blow Skullcandy Skullcrushers out of the water! Summary: 5 Stars
I've only had these for two days, but they sound so great that I had to write a review. I purchased these headphones based on all the great reviews they received here on Amazon. The last headphones I purchased were the Skullcandy Skullcrushers. I thought they would be perfect because I love loud music and bass. When I got them, to say they were disappointing would be an understatement (Around twenty dollars more than the HD212s, needed batteries to "power" very generic sounding bass, broke within a couple months, very cheap plastic). So when I got these, I was a little leery as to how they would sound, because the Skullcrushers also received good reviews. Well, I got them, put them on, and I can say that the HD212s by far exceeded my expectations. The bass is amazing. I used the THX Subwoofer Test on the computer, and was in awe. Picked up every note with ease. The lower the note, the harder these hit. Sound exactly like an actual subwoofer. They almost make your inner ear tickle from the vibration. The mids and highs are also very crisp. These are very light, and very comfortable to wear. Some people don't like the long cord. I personally love it. Also, as others have stated, they're very sensitive and pick up everything. I heard the computer reading the CD through them, and the CD spinning as it loaded. I never really knew how big of a difference there was between MP3 quality and CD quality until I put these on. I should add that I frequently use AOL Radio. So I used that and went through all the genres of music, and all of them sounded beautiful on these phones. Not just Rap, Techno, Rock. I haven't used theses on movies yet, but I can't wait to. So, if you're like me, and have been looking for great bass only to be let down in the past, look no further. Even if you aren't a basshead, pick these up now!
Customer Review: Absolutely Wonderful Sound Coming Through These! Summary: 5 Stars
These were an upgrade from a very pathetic cheap set of headphones I was using to listen to music on my first generation IPOD with.
I didn't know that the other headphones were so pathetic until I plugged these in.
I immediately noticed the "huge difference" in the richness of the bass in the songs I was listening to and the crystal-clear fidelity coming through these things.
I WON'T EVER give these up and go back to the ones I was using without dying first!
Unfortunately, I find the 10 feet of cable provided to be "too much" and I am forced to keep all but 3 or 4 feet of it "bundled up" (using a garbage bag tie) into an awkward "knot" that is a little bit too heavy and it frequently gets in the way.
However, I am forced to admit that the long cable does have a certain advantage in that I can plug the thing into my stereo or my television and listen from across the room as I lay in bed.
The leatherette ear pads (replaceable) are very comfortable and they fit my average-size ears perfectly; but I get the feeling that someone with rather large ears could possibly encounter difficulties wearing them.
Also, the fact that these are not adjustable with respect to head size might give someone who has an extra large mellon on his shoulders some trouble as well in that these might squeeze just "a little too tightly". A solution to that might be to very gingerly stretch the headphones open very wide over and over, not to the point that they would break or damage the plastic, but the stretching just might alleviate their default tension.
Conclusion:
This is one of the best things that I have spent money on in the longest time.
I recommend these as a great investment!
