Customer Review: Excellent, but Read the Reviews Before you Purchase!
Summary: 5 Stars

I own four pairs of Sennheiser headphones: PX 100 (first generation), these, the HD 201, and HD 238. In terms of sound quality - these rank right up there with the PX 100s, having a quieter, maybe even a more balanced sound, but they do not handle bass as well. The HD 201s are like toys to me, and the HD 238 are an utter disappointment compared to the PX 100s. Now PAY ATTENTION because although so many of these reveiws speak about the shortcomings of these phones, folks still buy them expecting perfection, then give them a poor rating; make an informed purchasing decision.

1. These are not designed for use with portable devices, hence the very long cord. I do use them with my Sony and Samsung MP3 players, but certainly, they are more suitable for a home stereo setup due to the cord's legnth. I have never used them as such since I am an MP3 player fan.
2. These are a TIGHT FIT WITH A SMALL EAR PAD SURFACE! I am a woman of 5'2 with proportionate ear size - actually some say that I have small ears - and these barely fit me, with some adjusting when I put them on. So know that once on, they will hug your ears very snuggly to uncomfortably (maybe even painfully for some) depending on what you like!
3. That said, you are not going to spend many hours in these (unless you like this feel and/or have very small ears), but the time that you DO spend in these you will enjoy!
4. If you have other headphones that you like, I suggest that you go to Sennheiser's website and do a specs comparison. I did this before buying these - already had the PX 100s - and doing that along with reviews here let me know what to expect from the sound quality. In fact, If I remember correctly, they have the EXACT same audio specs as the much-raved-about HD 202s. I have not been let down by these. I use these to primarily listen to R/B, sometimes some Latin Jazz - and trust me, it is all smiles for me when I do.
5. Now, although I read about the tight and somewhat uncomfortable fit, I went ahead an bought them anyway because of the Sennheiser sound and because, I lie to you not, I paid $6.00 or so for these here at Amazon about a year and a half ago. Someone was selling refurbished Sennheisers and this is how I got these and the 201s. At that price, I could not go wrong, even though I did not expect much of the 201s. I had to at least try them. Both pairs came in a clear plastic bag with Sennheiser labeling - looked and sounded new right from the start. So certainly, these were worth purchasing even with the criticism about the comfort.
6. Re: sound quality, yes, these are worth much more, but you will have to decide for yourself if you want to pay more money and risk the discomfort of these phones. I do not use these often since the 100s and 238s are more suitable for PMPs. But when I am home, I do switch between these three phones just for variety. Perhaps if I did use them more, they would stretch out a bit. Knowing what I do know about these, I would pay $40 or so for them. This is not to say that they are not worth more, but for my needs and their tight fit, I would not want to spend more on them. But for what I paid for them, the sound quality, and when/how I use them, they are more than a five-star product to me.

Customer Review: Good
Summary: 4 Stars

These headphones are very good. Unless you are an audiophile that has listened to multi-hundred dollar headphones, you won't have any issues with these.

The bass is thumping and good, yet it does not over power the other audio, unlike some headphones - it is like what you'd hear in the theater, or from a home theater system. They sound incredibly good.

When listening to music, I can hear mistakes in the audio. Just listen to the Diary of Jane a few times, you'll catch the mistake ;)

All audio is clear. I don't understand what some people mean when they say that it is muddy. Perhaps they are listening to YouTube audio. I have listened to high quality headphones, and these aren't 'muddy'. They could have more punch at the higher level, but that isn't anything you'll recognize without having heard those higher quality headphones.

The audio quality that comes through these do improve after playing for awhile - I know some people disagree with this 'theory', but trust me, these sounded much better after listening to music for awhile.

I am a 'multi-listener' - I listen to all types of things, I listen to podcasts, the radio, mp3s and flac, audiobooks, and I love using these headphones for listening to video games and movies. Because the cord is so long, I can plug it into the TV and sit across the room. It sounded absolutely amazing with the season premiere of Heroes, like I was in a theater.

So, let me say that the audio is incredibly good, especially for the $32 I payed. I should also mention that even though they are not noise cancelling, they do a pretty good job cutting out outside noise.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of the ear cups - they are slightly too small for adult ears, and that bugged me for awhile - for the first month or so of listening with these, I couldn't listen for more than a few hours because my ears got uncomfortable. The ear cups are slightly too shallow, so the cartilage in the center own my ear was pressed against the plastic slightly, and would get uncomfortable after a couple hours. My ears adjusted, and now I'm used to it.

The ear cups just barely fit over my ears, and I have to adjust them slightly to get my entire ear in them. On the plus side, they don't make my ears sweat at all, even after hours of use. The ears will adjust, but I would have been happy for larger cups.

The headband is another issue - it a little tight...at first. But after a month, it loosened up and now I can't even tell that I have these headphones on.

When you first get the headphones, I recommend that you get a small basketball, plug the headphones into a computer and let music play thorough them all night, and place them over the small basketball to stretch them out.

The audio is great. If you have a small head, then they will fit perfectly. If not, they will fit perfectly after a couple weeks.

Customer Review: Music to my Ears
Summary: 4 Stars

When my Sennheiser EH-150 Evolution Hi-Fi Stereo Headphones arrived last week my expectations were set. I knew that I was not going to hear sound like I've never heard before, but I needed new headphones; my Sony Headphones are over 10 years old and the over the ear leather coated foam was literally starting to rot on them. So when Amazon was offering the Sennheiser EH-150's as a Gold Box special, I pounced on the sweet deal.

Sometimes I use headphones with my Onkyo Home Theater Receiver when I want "loud sound" after the family has gone to bed. But I mostly use headphones to play along to my favorite music on my Ludwigs. I tried the Sennheiser EH-150's with the receiver and with my drums this weekend and they're great.

The Sennheiser EH-150's are perfect for what I was looking for, but they're certainly not professional or anything like the Ultimate Ears in-ear headphones that I use when I want real quality sound. It's just that the Ultimate Ears are actually too good for practicing drums at home with, because they sometimes are so noise reducing that I can't hear myself play unless I turn the volume down low...and who wants to play an Iron Maiden tune on the drums with the volume low?!?

But I really like the Sennheiser EH-150's better than the Sony's that I was using. First of all, the Sennheiser EH-150's fit around the ear versus over the ear. Not only is this a more comfortable fit, but it is a far more noise reducing fit which improves dramatically on the quality of the sound that you are hearing. But unlike the Ultimate Ears, the Sennheiser EH-150's don't cancel my drumming out.

The actual headband is adjustable and holds in place to your adjustments nicely for a nice tight fit. No disruption in sound due to a loose fitting headset that may not be as tolerant to head banging. The cord is nice and long, but not of the highest quality; however I noticed no distinguishable difference in sound quality due to the cheap cable. And the Sennheiser EH-150's come with a receiver jack adapter so that you can connect the built in iPod size connection to any system.

So if you're in the market for a decent headphone set that sounds great for a great price...look no further. The Sennheiser EH-150's should do the trick.

Customer Review: Awesome sound... pity it's so uncomfortable....
Summary: 3 Stars

This is my first review for an item I bought at amazon, even though I've been a custumer here since 1996. Here's why:

I bought the Sennheiser EH-150 personally depressed, while looking for a decent set of headphones after my $149,95 Sony VibraBass cracked up, which had an awesome sound. I wanted to try something new and decent without spending so much money, and I since have already tried several (more than 10 or 15, each one ++$100) headphone sets, with "Ok I'm pleased" result, I thought I had nothing to lose.

Let me tell you, Sennheiser EH-150 headphone produces the best sound I have ever heard in my life, whether if it's Mp3's, DVD's, iPOD's, whatever, and from what I have read on other reviews of better models from Sennheiser, I am currently thinking in saving up to get any of the 500 or 600 series. I tell you it's worth it, the sound is simply awesome. You actually hear stuff you never heard before or never thought of hearing. Isolates external sounds very impressively. Feels like you can listen to each one of the channels .

Now problem is (and this is why I write the review): Sennheiser designers must still think mankind is Homo erectus or Homo neanderthal, not Homo sapiens sapiens. The headset is small and uncomfortable for normal-sized ears, and believe me I read a lot on other websites, and when I purchased it, I thought "Oh well, maybe these are just people with big ears". Got it wrong. I'm a normal-sized ear human being and these headphones are the best and everything, but after 3 or 4 hours... your ears get really hurt, and you just can't put them back for another 3 hours.

Trust me:

If you have big ears... save and buy the Sennheiser 500 or 600 series. Probably better quality than this ones (I haven't test them but it's logical they should be better, and I would really like to listen), and your ears will fit.

If you have small ears. Buy this.

3 1/2 Stars, because it's very uncomfortable.

Customer Review: I've added specs. Best headphones under $50.
Summary: 5 Stars

The Sennheiser EH-150 came in its easy to open plastic packaging. It is designed and engineered in Germany, and made in China.

It has four countries on the back of the packaging: UK, German, French, and Espania. Interstingly, no American flag, which led me to believe that they don't sell the headphones in the United States except online (or at least this version of the product).

I will share exactly what specs are issued with my EH 150 stereo headphones: There are only 5:

Frequency - 18,000 Hz (Good lows for sleeping videos)

Impedance (propagation of sound ohms

SPL (at 1 KHz, dB

And there are some few comments on the back next to these stats and my comments are after:

"Closed, circumaural design for great attenuation of ambient noise."

"Powerful neodymium magnets and lightweight diaphragms for strong bass performance and precise treble." {Good bass. When listening to sleep video's, sometimes you can hear recorded motor traffic, and the bass is so realistic that I have to take off my headphones.}

"Ultra-lightweight, rugged design for comfortable, extended listening pleasure." {yes it is, compared with philips stereo headphone SBC HP170. The philips hurt the tops of my ears and irritated them. The EH-150 close around my ear and only the cushion pillows against them. But, like all headphones, I'm sure there is a point of exhaustion against them)

It comes with a 1/4" adapter to plug into your reciever.

I've bought skullcandy headphones and sony headphones and my old favorite philips and none of them produce music and sounds like the Sennheiser EH-150. I haven't found anything better under 50 dollars.
