Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sennheiser CX 300S Bass-Driven Lightweight In-Ear HeadphoneCustomer Review: Great Sennheiser sound Summary: 5 Stars
Well, I'd been waiting for a month or so for these in-ear buds to come to the U.S. and I'm glad I did. My father has two pairs of Sennheiser headphones (wireless, wired), and I used them with my new iPod video over winter break and I loved 'em. The iPod's stock phones are just cheezy, and my Sony EX71s died long ago. As soon as I saw the CX 300S on Amazon, I grabbed them. That, being said here are my personal Highs/Lows of these headphones:
Highs:
- Great clarity, you hear every instrument and effect.
- Great highs, mids, bass (even without tweaking EQ)
- Sound isolation is scary good, considering that isn't why I purchased these headphones.
- Very comfortable (more so than the Sony EX71s these replace).
- So far the wiring has held up during my walks around campus.
Lows:
- Well, I do wish they'd use thicker wiring just in case, but these are much hardier than the stupid Sonys. Sony lost me as a customer after that waste of $40.
- Doesn't come with a case (I'm using the Sony case haha)
Summary:
Sennheiser is a good brand and I'm sure quality varies with price. But, don't compare these to the $10 cheapy Senn. earbuds you see online. These headphones are the epitomy of bang-for-the buck. Just wait until the price goes back to $40. Not sure why it keeps fluctuating. Otherwise, these things are comfortable for long periods of time, sound great, and are probably one of the better things I've blown my financial aid on :)
Customer Review: Great fit, poor sound quality buds. Summary: 1 Stars
The buds that came with my iPod don't fit my ears great, especially the left one. So I ordered these as they have different 'sleeves' that fit over the bud and then into your ear canal. I thought I would be upgrading the sound quality as well, as the ones that came with the $69, although they sounded good, couldn't be top quality for that price. When I got the Sennheiser CX300-b's, I first installed what I thought would be the correct canal 'sleeves'. This worked perfectly! Now the buds fit both of my ears with a good snug fit, and I was ready for some sweet musical quality. My disappointment was when I turned my iPod unit on. I immediately heard a hum, even though I hadn't even started playing music. When I turned the music on, what I heard was a 'tinny' and somewhat shrill sound. This was not what I expected at all after reading great reviews all over about these. Yes, I didn't like the uneven cord between the left and right bud. And yes, there is this 'noise' generated when you run the cord over any clothing or tap it. Listening to these was 'very' fatiguing. I can listen to the iPod buds for hours and enjoy every minute. I couldn't listen to these for more than 5 minutes, and the bass was extremely poor compared to the stock iPod buds. I've owned a full size pair of Sennheiser ear-phones that were very high quality. I don't if I got a bad pair of Sennheiser buds, but I returned mine and I'm not going to risk another shot. So I'm stuck with my stock buds that don't fit great, but I appreciate the sound more than ever.
Customer Review: Please read before you buy... Summary: 4 Stars
Hi,
I read so many reviews on different earphones for my ipod. I wanted the same sound quality that I had experienced with my Sennheiser PX100. I received these 2 days ago and the sound quality is great but....
Cons:
1) I wish that Sennheiser would have used better quality wires. Immediately out of the box I did NOT like the wires. I have examined and bought many cheap earphones and these have the same cheapy wires.
2) The assymetrical wires is a little annoying, but I am already getting used to them.
3) The wires do produce a nasty hollow rubbing sound if you move, even in the slightest...I don't think I will be wearing these in the gym.
Pros:
1) Definately a difference in sound than the earphones provided by Apple. Rich bass, clear sound. I can literally hear things in my music that I hadn't noticed before. Which is why I rated these 4 stars.
2) These are definately noise canceling. So, my primary use will be to block out my husband's snores at night, which brings me to #3...
3) They are very comfortable to sleep in. I tried sleeping in the Sennheiser PX100's...UNCOMFORTABLE! I tried sleeping in the ipod Apple earphones even more UNCOMFORTABLE. These you barely notice they are there even when you are sleeping right on your ear.
So I am mostly happy with these but I will still be on the hunt for the perfect earphones for a good price...Sennheiser you almost got it right!
Customer Review: first rate; fantastic buy Summary: 4 Stars
I have had plenty of experience with the Etymotics and Shure's. The Ety's are fine, well-matched to the iPod; the Shure's are, I'm sad to say, god-awful and shrill, regardless of fit - like viewing fine art under fluorescent light.
The Sennheisers sound pleasantly like the larger headphones in the line - muscular, full, strong but realistic bass, good presence and drive, clean frequency response and lots of musical detail. And, at this price, they are untouchable. I prefer them marginally to my Etymotics, which cost substantially more, and of which I'm still very fond.
My only caveat is that these come with asymmetrical cords and no clasp, which takes more fiddling-around and makes them a bit more awkward to use when in motion. Not convenient for use while exercising, though not impossible. I've gotten used it, and the musical pleasure more than compensates. Mine also did not come with any sort of cleaning kit or specs - cheaply packaged. The point is to take them out of the package, and what good is documentation for something like this anyway? No big deal. The Etymotics, for a bit more money, have comparably musical sound and are more adaptible for use while exercising, performing or otherwise moving around.
Unless you're dedicated to megabuck fitted studio monitors, stop here, buy these and spend the rest of your money on music, a charitable donation and something nice for a loved one.
Customer Review: Good price and good headphones Summary: 5 Stars
I really wanted to get isolating headphones like this. Iw as originally looking at the shure e2c, but these had good reviews and were significantly cheaper, so I went with these. I'm very impressed. After changing the rubber piece, they fit comfortably in my ears, and they are very effective at blocking out external sound. I can listen at a lower volume and its clearer then regular headphones are. The sound the produce is also of good quality. I'm sure some audiophiles would find thing to nitpick over, but for the average person, these sound great. I really wanted this kind of headphones for when I fly and I want to watch movies on my laptop. I wanted something that sounds good, will block out sound, won't annoy people around me, and these do an excellent job at all of those..
The cord is on the short side, but I actually see this as an advantage. I don't need a veyr long cord. Its only being used to connect to my computer while watching movies, or a diskman I'll have on me, and its long enough for that. The cord is asymetrical (the cord for the right side is longer and you're supposed to run it behind your neck to your right ear), which is a bit weird at first, but I actually really like it now that I realize how it works.
I can't say if the shures sound better, but I doubt they sound that much better if at all. And these were significantly cheaper. I definitely recommend them.
