I found a need to purchase this item because I was taking a trip to Europe and I realized the bundled wall charger for the DS Lite isn't rated for 100-240V but only for 110V. By purchasing a USB charger, I would be able to charge my DS via my laptop. This has worked exactly as intended and I'm very happy with the purchase. The charging time seems similar whether I use USB or the AC plug.
Another situation in which this cable has come in handy is if I'm on the subway on the way to work (which is when I normally use my DS) and I get the dreaded red battery warning light... now I can charge my DS from my work computer during the day so it's ready to go for my commute home!
For anyone who travels with their DS, I would recommend this product.
