Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Seagate ST302504FDA1E1-RK FreeAgent Desktop 250 GB 3.5" USB 2.0 External Hard DriveCustomer Review: Horrible Warrnty Support Summary: 1 Stars
Two of my Seagate hard drives have gone bad in in about a year. Seagate expires your warranty after one year so you need to send an email to them with the copy of the original invoice.
After several emails (their communication is just terrible, I wished I could talk to an automated service than a live person), they told me my warranty was honored. After a week, I checked back on their website and it was showing still out of warranty.
All in all, it's taking me more than three weeks just to verify that my hard drive is under warranty. I don't know how much longer they'll take to ship a new drive to me once they get the broken one, but my advice is:
STAY AWAY.
Customer Review: My data is now safe Summary: 5 Stars
You couldn't ask for an easier product. It works great.
1. Plug-in
2. See new drive in Windows Explorer
3. Copy\Move everything you need to get backed up
This was perfect for me because I have all my music, game saves, documents, work stuff, etc all in organized folders on my C:\. I simply Ctrl clicked the folders I needed copied, right clicked and choose copy and moved everything to my new Drive. Done! No software to install and no configurations to deal with. Awesome, quick, and easy.
One complaint... The drive is dark brown not jet black like I thought the picture showed. No biggie. I only rate on how the product works.
Customer Review: cake Summary: 5 Stars
I just got this thing because the prices have dropped so much in the last six months that I finally needed to break down and buy one. I choose Seagate because of consistent reliability and a gauranteed 5 year warranty on parts and labor. Almost all others are only 1 year. While I can't say how this performs over a period of time, I can say in the one day I have used it, I have no complaints. It transfers files fast, makes no noise at all, takes up little space, and cool glowing orange light strip. As with the other review, I merely laughed at the instruction manual because it was so plain easy. 5 stars just for the fact of a 5 year warranty that I didn't have to add into the price.
Customer Review: Works great; documentation iffy. Summary: 4 Stars
Now that it's up and on a USB2.0 hub, we've not had a problem with it... we were writing data within a minute. The sole issue is with the documentation: while it does specify that it needs a 2.0 hub, the paperwork doesn't go out of it's way to let you know that. Thus, for the first hour, I though this Seagate was chewed, when in fact it was just plugged into an older USB. As soon as I moved it to a newer computer (that had 2.0) it worked just fine. That poor documentation is the only reason I gave four stars instead of five. Sure, that could be my stupidity, but putting a big "MUST HAVE USB2.0!!" on the cover shouldn't have been too much trouble.
Customer Review: Works most of the time. Summary: 3 Stars
It works as expected most of the time. Copying files to and from the drive is nearly as fast as my internal drives.
What drives me nuts about this drive is that sometimes my computer doesn't recognize it. I think it has something to do with having too many things plugged into my USB ports, but I haven't been able to isolate the problem. When it stops working, I just have to unplug the power supply and plug it back in to get winxp to recognize it again. An on/off switch would have been nice.
I wouldn't buy it again because of the connection problem, and there are other choices out there for around the same price.
