Customer Review: Let This FreeAgent Go
Summary: 1 Stars

Got my Seagate via Dell and hooked up to my new PC running Vista. Installation was smooth, quick. The drive did good for several days, but, ironically, I was calling Dell even then to settle a problem where my brand-new PC would freeze on bios (before Vista could boot). Not long after that, Seagate started disappearing from My Computer. After trying everything, finally disconnected Seagate and my Dell PC began booting fine (this after Dell finally sent me a replacement computer). Who knew? Can't truss Seagate now. Can't return the drive to Dell, so I'm sending it back to the company (hope I get a new replacement to experiment with but won't miss the thing if I don't). For what it's worth, the drive seemed more stable (but slow) with my older Dell PC running XP.

Hello,This external HD was sold to me by a sales person at best buy. He told me the HD bearings have lube on them for a quite, long life and that 300mbps transfer rate is the norm. The sound level is zero and I'm thinking that the transfer rate is not 300mbps but I'd guess 125mbps? I did like removing the base so I could Velcro the unit to the underside of the computer desk shelf upside down. Looks kinda mysterious there. It did reject a long list of files that lacked valid paths. Seems OK thou. Much less noisy then my Western digital "Book" HD. The "Book" makes a loud grinding noise. I'd guess ten time louder than the fan on the laptop.UPDATE it been a year now and I have had zero issues! It's fast as any usb style drive. I'm thinking Best in Class.

Customer Review: Terrible Support
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this drive about five moths ago, and it did not work out of the box. I determined that the wall adapter/power supply was bad, so I emailed Seagate to get an RMA number for just the power supply. They responded quickly, and I shipped it off. It has been about four and a half months now, and they STILL have not sent the replacement part. I have called and emailed several times. Sometimes they say they are about to ship it, but a few weeks later I call back and they say it is out of stock. I tried telling them to open the box of a new drive, but they told me that they could not do that. I am very unhappy with Seagate's support, especially since one of the main selling points (for me at least) is the five year warranty.

Customer Review: Horrible External Hard Drive Great Bookend
Summary: 1 Stars

My troubles with this device are never ending! Delayed write failures were the start from there on it was corrupted data, lost data and occasionally just switching off. After some months I could tolerate its horrible yellow glowing smirk no more and it found a new use as a very expensive bookend.

What's even more annoying than the poor quality of this product is the total "couldn't care a less" attitude of the manufacturer. They have numerous complaints over the issues with this product. Do you think they've bothered to recall or provide a fix? No. You get told to edit your registry, reboot your machine and other such "magical" cures.

Don't buy this unless, of course, you're after a rather fancy bookend.

Customer Review: works great for my purposes

I purchased this to use with my Playstation 3. I am able to store all of my mp3's, videos, and photos on this easily, and it works with a quick plug and play after formatting to fat32. I utilized a free software program from the net that did the fat32 format quickly, and the PS3 found it immediately. I have owned many Seagate internal drives before this external one, and all were reliable and durable, but eventually were outdated due to size. I have had a few Maxtor and Western Digital drives crash on me in the past, so I steer clear of those. So far, this continues to keep me faithful in the Seagate brand, and works well for my purpose of Media Storage for my PS3. I hope it will work well for you too.
