I bought two new Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5 TB - SATA-300 on October 13 2009, they shipped with the CC1H firmware. They worked fine under Windows 7, but about 30 days later I started to hear the click,click,click then the computer would lockup with Event Log errors that hard drive timed out. I ran SeaTools for DOS (boot cd-rom) which found 6 errors and fixed them. About 10 days later the computer froze again, upon reboot it wouldn't boot. SeaTools for DOS said the drive was not responding to any commands. I called Seagate Support was said there were no known problems with this drive and sent me over to Warranty Support where I paid $19 dollars to get another drive shipped so I can re-build my PC. Google search for Barracude 1.5TB freezing has a lot of hits. Customer Review: stay away from Seagate drives

Be very careful if you buy Seagate drives and want warranty service. I bought a retail drive from a retail store 2.5 years ago because I wanted the 5 year warranty just in case something goes wrong. My drive died last week. I contacted Seagate for warranty service and the CSR told me the drive was an OEM drive and did not have a warranty from Seagate.
I actually have the retail box that it came in, with the serial number of the drive printed on the outside of the box. He would not honor the warranty and basically said it could be forged by the retailer. He did not know this box to be legit because I didn't buy it from Seagate directly.
I have never had a problem obtaining warranty service on Western Digital retail drives.
Check your drive's serial number on the box (if you buy retail) before you open the packaging on the company's website to make sure the warranty is good. Who knows...some retailer just might put an OEM drive into a forged box and sell it as a retail product.

I bought three of these over a year ago to build a hardware RAID5 array. They have been abused without end for that entire time. When they finaly ran out of space, I bought another one to join them...and it works just as well...no need for special utilities to make this drive work with RAID; this is professional grade.Customer Review: Very good Hard Drive

I bought two of these 7200.11 model drives in October 2009. One failed immediately and I got a replacement. Over the next month the click-click-click of death began and the drives began to fail.
They say that there is a firmware update that fixes this, but in my case it either wasn't applied, or there is more of a problem than they think.
Now, the vendor was not Amazon -- it was Fry's and maybe the batches are different -- but I still won't touch the Seagate 7200.11 line for any amount of "savings." YMMV.
