Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Seagate Barracuda 500 GB 7200RPM SATA NCQ 16 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Desktop Hard Drive ST3500641AS-RK-Retail KitCustomer Review: Good Drive, Amazon's description & photo are outdated Summary: 5 Stars
Regarding the 500 GB drive and all in the Barracuda Series: These are a pretty standard drive, that has been used for years. Not blazing fast, not too slow.
The AMAZON descriptions and MAIN PHOTO are way out of date, about 2-3 versions old.
The 2010 current carton is the Brown/Black/Orange striped carton
The 2010 current version is 7200.12, NOT 7200.9 as stated.
Customer Review: Nice but noisy Summary: 3 Stars
I originally bought two of these bad boys to put into a NAS (network attached storage) that was going to be tucked away in a closet. Well the NAS (linksys) was a bust (returned it since it was so slow). I kept the drives and put them in my HP computer as a RAID-1 (mirrored) pair. They are fast but do click a bit as the heads do their reading ans writing. Overall a good buy and reliable so far.
Customer Review: Ear Piercing Summary: 1 Stars
The drive has great capacity and works fast enough. However, after seeking it makes a very high pitched noise. It is not even that loud and yet I can't stand it at all. Would not recommend based on this if you have any kind of sensitive hearing. Additionally the drive has no means to set it to run slower but with less noise unlike other drives.
Customer Review: nice Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these harddisks to build the file server for my group. The purchasing procedure went through very well. The items arrived in
expected range of time. The file server was built and perform well.
Overall my group members are very happy about this new file server.
For that I thank Amazon's nice purchasing procedure.
Customer Review: Good Drive... Summary: 4 Stars
It's a very good drive, under Vista/XP it sounds like it's doing a lot of read/write, even when the system is idle, but you can live with it. It's not an issue with the drive, since if you run it on any linux distribution, the drive doesn't sound at all, even under heavy read/write operations. I think the sound is related to an OS issue...
