Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200.11 Bulk/OEM Hard Drive ST31000340ASCustomer Review: An Ok drive. Summary: 4 Stars
Pros: Fast, lots of room
Cons: More bad sectors that I liked, needs to be well cooled when transferring lots of data, noisy head seeks.
I'm glad I check the drive for errors before trusting with my data. That way I got the bad sectors out of the way first so my data would be at less of a risk.
If you plan on using this drive in a dock, you may need a fan to keep the drive cool.
Customer Review: Buyer Beware Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this (ST31000340AS 1TB Barracuda) drive in October of 2008 and it died yesterday after only seven months. The BIOS no longer recognizes it.
While I won't purchase another Barracuda, I may purchase another Seagate model because I've had good luck with this vendor's equipment in the past. Perhaps there are reliability issues with this particular model.
Customer Review: Junk Drive Summary: 2 Stars
Worked fine for 2 months before it crashed. I think this is a sign of poor quality. I've never had a drive die so soon. DOA would have been better. One hundred dollars and a lot of time down the drain. I'll pass on trying another. Don't care to chance having another crash soon after getting all my software setup again. Better make sure to backup your files regularly with this drive.
Customer Review: 100% failure rate - Bad Batch? Summary: 1 Stars
Purchased 2 from Amazon, both failed within a few days of using. This may be a bad batch from China because it looks like failures on other posts were manufactured around the same time.
One drive gave I/O errors the other just disappeared from the machine. Unfortunately they were both ROOT drives for my machines so I wasted a lot of time trying to recover.
Customer Review: Great price for A LOT of storage. Summary: 5 Stars
Although not purchased from Amazon, this drive was the perfect solution to consolidate my music and video libraries. Performance has been about the same compared with a smaller 320GB Maxtor HDD which is being replaced. The high marks were for the price. I will be looking at purchasing a few more of these drives and putting them into an external RAID 5 enclosure.
