Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Satechi SP400 Smart-Pointer (Silver) 2.4Ghz RF Wireless Presenter with Mouse Function and Laser PointerCustomer Review: Excellent product for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this wireless presenter about 9 months ago to use in some upcoming PowerPoint presentations in a few of my classes. I've used it about 8 times so far and it is EXCELLENT. It does exactly what it is supposed to, with very minor flaws. It comes in a nice small carrying case which holds the USB stick and the remote itself. The remote fits nicely in your palm, really feels natural holding it; not bulky or too small. IIRC, there are two different color sets: Red and Silver/Black. Other buyers bought the red one so it would stick out in the open more clearly (to avoid losing it). I bought the silver/black version because it looked better.. I'm sure the red version works exactly the same. The installation for the software takes literally under a minute and is automatically done by Windows (tested on both Windows XP 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit).
Now for the minor flaws. The laser pointer is red (which isn't picked up by your eye as much as green would). In a classroom setting, the laser would only be useful if the room was dark and being pointed at a screen without bright colors showing; otherwise you can barely notice it. Honestly, I bought a wireless presenter with a laser simply because my dog loves chasing around the laser, I had no intention using it in the classroom.
The second flaw is the mouse feature. You can only move up, down, left, or right with the mouse which makes it awkward. There is no rotating ball like older laptops had for mouses. Again, I didn't plan on using the mouse either so not a big deal.
The last flaw is that if you don't use the remote for an extended period of time (maybe 20 minutes or so), it doesn't recognize the first button you press (that first button "wakes up" the remote). Again, not a big deal, you just have to be careful your slide has progressed when you press a button for the first time in awhile.
I highly recommend this remote.
