Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of 6 in 1 Car Kit for Ipod (Black) Car Charger / Fm Transmitter / Holder Full Range Frequency / USB port / Remote Control for iPod, Touch 1G/2GCustomer Review: Satechi 6 in 1 Car Kit for Ipod Summary: 5 Stars
I have the 2nd Gen iPod Touch. I had to upgrade my car kit and I picked this one because of the looks. I was afraid it wasn't going to work completely with the 2nd Gen iPod Touch but it does. The remote works great also. It's not a very strong remote so you will have to point it directly at the unit from about a foot away. I love how I could use this iPod without having to take my case off of it. This unit compresses in on the sides and holds the iPod firmly in place.
I only wish the LCD display showed the station numbers better or bolder. It almost looks a little faded like old LCD panels when they get cold. They should also offer a longer cigarette lighter stem.
I give it 5 Stars because it looks great and the remote is cool.
I had to update this review and add to it. I bought this over a year ago and I am more then pleased with this unit.
I just recently found out this can be used as an auxillary port for your car or truck. Use it for any portable unit. Cell phones can plug into this and be used to come out into the speakers of the car. Really cool. Play your own music, then if a call comes in, the music pauses and the call is heard through the speakers then once ended it goes back to the music. You can watch your videos or play games on your devices and it will come out through the speakers also. Cell Phones, DSi, iPods ... it charges anything that uses a USB port. Get adapters so you can connect your mini usb devices.
I love that this can turn into an auxillary port.
Enjoy ... I recommend this for anybody who wants to bring their devices into the vehicle
Customer Review: If you order this product, also order some black duck tape... Summary: 2 Stars
The product worked, but is very flimsy. There is a plastic screw that keeps the tension on the iPod Holder, and everytime you remove and replace the charger you put more and more pressure on the cheap plastic stock.. So it broke within a month of my very careful useage. To stream the music through your car radio, you have to find a fm frequency that is not in use on your car radio, and then sync that with the same frequency on the charger,& they recommend that you find an fm frequency with unused bandwidth either side of it, to avoid high pitched interference.. I found it almost impossible to find an unused frequency (and I live in rural Massachusetts..) so if I were you, I would spend 5 or 10 minutes carefully searching the FM frequencies on the car radio & make sure that you find one that isn't taken before you order this.. -Even though I couldn't find one with empty bandwidth either side, the slim gap was enough. I can listen to the iPod through my car radio with just a little bit of interference here and there, and it charges my ipod touch 2g, which makes it worth keeping, returns are so time consuming and such a pain. However, I will buy some black duck tape to hold the thing together. I really don't think it's worth the $40 that I paid for it, but I couldn't see anything for less money that did the job.. if you see something for less money, try it, because the quality that comes with this product isn't going to be any better than a cheaper alternative. If you can't find anything less expensive, and it's not worth your time to keep searching, order this, but also get the black duck tape. And tape up the stock before it breaks, that might make it last longer.
Customer Review: Good so far Summary: 3 Stars
I got this transmitter just a couple of days ago. All the parts were as mentioned in the product description. The moment I plugged in my iPod intot this device, it immediately recognized the transmitter and started broadcasting my music. Worked best on 88.3, which I think was kind of preset into the transmitter (something like factory setting). There were only a couple of instances in Los Angeles downtown where I observed some disturbance in the music I played. Otherwise the sound quality was fantastic. If not hard, it wasn't very easy for me to fit this into my car's power point either. But after installation, it gets ample space even when the gear stick is in Parking position (I own Honda Accord EX 2007). I see few people having problems fitting this device into their cars. The multifunction remote which comes with the transmitter kind of makes it easy to browse through the iPod library and change songs without looking at the iPod with just a gentle push of a button. Makes me observe safe driving practices! Overall I would say this is a good product. The only reason I have given 3 star rating is because I have had it only for a couple of days. I will update my rating as I get some more experience using it over time.
Update: 5/20/2009
Couple of days ago, the transmitter just stopped working. It wasn't turning ON. So I emailed customer service to convey the problem. I got the reply back on the same day, telling me to ship the part to get it exchanged. And then I got the new part within just few days. The service was surprisingly good, prompt, and less painful! The new product is working fine as of now.
Customer Review: Feeling lucky, or Crafty??? BUY IT!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I own a 2001 Saab 93 Convertable with a 5 speed and when I recived the 6 in 1 (very fast I must say) I found that I wasn't lucky and was unable to put the car in fith gear and actually broke the swivle part. However, I liked the looks, remote feature, and the sound quaility so much I was bound and determined to make it work in may car. I have a 32gb Ipod Touch with the Griffin clear case which fitted ok, but I took a little off the foam with a razor and now it fits like a glove! Anyways What I did was disasembled the back piece (which comes off like its supposed to) and soldered in a cellphone charger (if you do this MAKE SURE THE POSITIVE WIRE IS ON THE TOP) wire to it and put some velcro to the back. Satachi was very helpful with this transition, and sent me a new back piece without hot glue to make it easier. Now I have it mounted where I wanted it and could hardwire it right to the main wires to free up the cigarette lighter (mabey in the summer cause it is cold up here in NY). I am very sasitified with the looks, operation, and the fact that it is clear as a bell. The only thing I would change is the fact that it dosent automatically turn on when the ignition is switched on but hey, that only takes a second. The end of the cigarette lighter plug to the front measures about 6 inches so keep that in mind when selecting this product. If you are crafty enough you can make it work and you wont be dissapointed with the features and operation. I sent the pics of what I did to Satechi and I am sure they will share them with you if you need any ideas on how to make it work in your car. Thanks for reading.
Customer Review: Nice Unit for Your I-Pod in The Car Summary: 5 Stars
This unit has worked well for me in my car with my I-Pod. I just bought a second unit for my son for Christmas.
Pros:
1. Made of plastic but has held up well. I have expected the plastic clamp arms to give out, but so far (12 months or so) so good.
2. Easy to use. If you get static on one frequency, its easy to change to another.
3. Holds I-Pod so it can face you directly.
4. Holds I-pod steady enough so you can select and poke, with index finger.
5. Easy to remove the whole thing from the charger outlet, as one unit (with I pod) or separately, so it can be stowed away out of sight.
6. I have a big, ugly, thick protective skin on my I-Pod, and this unit was engineered to accomodate.
7. Quality of broadcast is as good as I need. Probably constrained by the quality of my car speakers.
Cons:
1. Minor - you have to push a button to turn it on every time you start the car.
2. If you don't have a conveniently located "cigarette lighter" the value added of this design (vs. the pure electronic versions that do not hold and display the Ipod), are diminished. My power supply is front and center on the dash.
I have to admit, I've never used the remote. I should try it someday!
UPDATE 6/1/2010: The plastic under the metal nut on the bolt that allows the angle of the device holding the I-pod at a varying angle final gave out. The device still works electronically, but now the Ipod flops around and the angle cannot be set.
