Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sanus VMPL50B VisionMount Tilting Mount For 30"- 56" Displays - Black

Customer Review: Top of the line wall mount!
Summary: 5 Stars

After several days of debate with my wife, we decided to settle with a wall mount for our new Panasonic 50" Plasma TV. I made a quick trip to Best Buy and asked the sales rep. which mount was the best for a 50" Plasma. The rep. recommended Sanus over Best Buy's Init. I decided to make the purchase through Amazon and save $$$. Best Buy carries the exact same mount at double the cost.

The installment process is easy and keep in mind to have an extra set of hands to help lift the TV into place. I tested the wall plate after installing four lag screws into place. I grabbed the plate and hung in air for 30 seconds. Then I gave it a good tug. Enough to satisfy me. Sanus makes a great quality product (it has been one full week and my TV is fixed solid to the wall).

I had a concern with the 1st shipment. The 1st shipment arrive badly damaged, the FedEx Carrier recommended I have the item returned. I agreed. I called Amazon regarding the damages, and a rep. had another shipment processed for overnight delivery for the next day. I received the 2nd wall mount the next day in a larger box for extra protection. The same FedEx Carrier from the day before advised me to observe the contents, so I did. The 2nd shipment arrived in good state. I gave Amazon 5 stars for quick..convenient service, atop carrying a great product.

Thanks Amazon for an awesome product and great customer service.

Customer Review: Solid product yet there are serious improvements still needed
Summary: 3 Stars

Pros:
-- Solid construction (materials are of high quality and seem very durable)
-- Once all parts are identified, assembly and installation are relatively not difficult

Cons:
-- Atrocious instruction manual. This was a big surprise given the apparent quality of the product. The box comes with a complete set of screws, washers, spacers, etc. but making the choice among the different combinations of parts depends completely on the type of TV you have (and type of wall you are attaching the stand to). There is no guide for matching type of TV with parts. For example, after an hour of research online, I still wasn't convinced which size bolt was appropriate for the attachment in the back of the TV. Obviously, if I used a longer than necessary bolt, I could seriously damage the TV.
-- Tighteners for the TV tilting mechanism are very difficult to reach once the TV is attached to the wall. There are tighteners on both sides of the TV, which act independently and if you tighten only one side, it might not be enough to overcome gravity and the TV would rotate on its own. This is particularly true if your TV is large/heavy (mine is 52") and/or you mount it on a wall that barely fits the screen. I mounted mine above a fireplace, which is located on a wall in a corner of my living room and the width of that wall is about 4" longer than the width of the TV.

Customer Review: Hi Quality, Sturdy Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I own a 40" LCD TV and moved into a new home with almost no option for placing the TV, unless it was a wall mount. This product had good reviews and a good price. When I installed the mount, you can tell just from the heavy-duty powder-coated metal frame and hardware that it will hold on tight forever and ever. The lag bolts are very beefy with deep, sharp threads that made me very comfortable hanging my expensive TV. It also comes with a huge selection of hardware to attach the mount to your TV for convenience. If you have a TV in the range it advertises, this mount is excellent for the money. TWO IMPORTANT NOTES: First, this product is one of the "tilt-only" products, so if you want lateral tilting, this one won't do it, but it is clearly advertised that way so just make sure you understand what you are looking for when you coose a mount. Second, if you know your wall has metal studs behind the drywall DO NOT mount your TV on the wall! Metal studs are nowhere close to as strong as wood studs, and if you know the interior walls of your home are metal, you will need to make other arrangements (I tore my wall down and had to re-frame two wood studs into the existing wall to make sure the mount would hold properly. This was a question I had researched before buying the product, but if you haven't learned the hard way before, then take it from me...) Great product overall, though.

Customer Review: This is quality.
Summary: 5 Stars

I had heard reviewers stating that you didn't have to have your bolt holes centered in the plate and to just worry about centering the plate where you wanted it. I was concerned about the plate flexing if I didn't have bolts on both sides. I NEEDN'T HAVE WORRIED.

The plate is made of thick metal and is a heavy piece of equipment in itself. The brackets you mount on the back of the TV are the same way. Heavy and solid. I'm pretty sure if my house was hit by a tornado, you'd find the plate still stuck to its piece of wall and the TV still attached to the plate all stuck in a tree a mile away.

To give you an idea, I mounted this bracket to a brick wall that was behind my drywall. After mounting I hung from the mount by my fingertips. I tip the scales at 280 lbs. The mount didn't budge or flex.

The screw selection is also huge. I've never seen such a complete package in any mounting system or anything I've assembled at home. There were at least four different screw packages for different sized televisions that I didn't use. I couldn't bear to throw them away and they are now in my high-grade fastener collection that I'll probably use to supplement other kits where "some assembly is required."

I got this Sanus Mount for about $70, which is a screaming deal. Compared to other mounts I've bought, this one is easily worth twice that price.

Customer Review: VMPL50B - Excellent quality and value
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a picky engineer, and I cannot stress enough how high the quality is for this unit. It is very robust, with the wall-mount plate being made of 0.125" thick steel, and the TV mounting clamps made of 0.10" thick steel. The tilting operation moves smoothly in an arc centered about 2.6" from the front of the TV mounting plane, or about 5" from the wall. An added bonus is that you can download the technical drawing for detailed dimensions from the manufacturer's website.

I had no trouble with the lag bolts used to secure the plate to the wall. The instructions clearly stated not to over-tighten the bolts. I pre-drilled the holes to the appropriate size (just clearing the inner diameter of the bolt shaft between the raised threads) and the bolts screwed in firmly.

Even though the unit included a wide mix of TV mounting screws and spacers, I went to a hardware store to find some screws and spacers that were a more exact fit to my Samsung 46" LED-TV. I could have used what was included, but the TV wouldn't have been quite as low-profile in its mounting.

I agree with others who suggest that connections be made prior to placing the TV on the mount; once the TV is in place, there is very little space for your hands to attempt to maneuver plugs into place.

I recommend this unit without reservations.
