Customer Review: Finally I have a New Favorite Radio

My previous radio still works okay, but it was over 30 years old. To use it during power outages required 6 C cells, and using rechargeable cells required managing a separate charger. The PR-D7 has a built-in charger capability, so I don't have to manage multiple pieces of gear in order to be ready for the next power failure. It keeps the (replaceable) NiMH batteries ready to go. I mostly use it to listen to my favorite news and public affairs shows on NPR, so my audio experiences with it are primarily conversational voices, with a bit of eclectic music. It works and sounds fine, with no problems in reception or tuning. It is about one sixth the size of my prior radio and looks nicer too. I've been recommending it to my coworkers and family members.

We bought this for our 12-year-old daughter instead of an expensive iPod that leads kids exclude themselves from family interactions. She LOVES this sharp-looking little rechargeable radio, about the size of a half a sheet of paper. It has a modern, clean appearance with a nifty golden glow to the digital panel. She even likes the silver speaker on the side. It's got a huge antenna which gives great reception. The rechargeable battery option is working great. You can even set it as an alarm clock radio. The only fault I can find is that the volume doesn't go super loud, but I guess that's good because no one likes to listen to a scratcy, blown speaker. We feel this radio was a great compromise for our family's listening needs.

I had to fabricate a base for the radio. Knock off a star for a radio that is too easy to knock over.

I like the thing and Amazon's price and expeditious shipping. I received exactly what I ordered in a box that was intact containing an undamaged radio.

Customer Review: Eats AA batteries like candy!

I was looking for a portable digital AM/FM radio to use during my work. Physical size is good, but it's a little heavy (3+ lbs.) for my liking. The sound quality and display are good. I wish it had a button lock switch, as I often inadvertently press one of the many buttons when carrying it around. I dropped it once and the body held up well, but now I need to put a piece of tape over the battery compartment door to keep it closed.
The worst is this radio uses too many AA batteries (6 at a time), and it sucks them empty in very few hours of use. I only get +/- 10 hours of use on 6 batteries. I'm looking for a better radio. I miss my old Sony ICF-M410V. It was wonderful until I dropped it one too many times!
