Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sangean PR-D7 AM/FM Digital Rechargeable Portable RadioCustomer Review: Outstanding value for the price. Summary: 5 Stars
This elegant little device has it all for the price. It passed the durability test when I knocked it over and it hit a concrete floor so hard it bent the battery clips and the batteries fell out. I straightened them out and the radio was still perfect.
Pros: Excellent sensitivity; digital tuning locks on to the frequency. Very good sound for such a small package (don't expect high-end stereo -- you'll be disappointed). Controls are intuitive. Antenna clips securely away when not in use. Good life using batteries that recharge when you're using external power. Nice looks.
Cons: I miss some sort of handle to avoid having it slip out of my hands. Display is a bit dim, and not so easy to read. Easy to tip over (see above) due to its small footprint (but this is true of all radios this size). Sound is not concert hall, but can't be in this size. Doesn't have a "tone" control, if you are fussy about that sort of thing.
I like it very much.
Customer Review: Replacement Bathroom Radio Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Sangean PR-D7 to replace my 10 year old Radio Shack Optimus radio which was used in the bathroom and started to have power source problems. I've only had the Sangean for a few days but I am very pleased with its performance. The digital tuner works great and it's simple to set up the clock as well as the presets (no directions needed). I was also pleasantly surprised how well built it is. There seems to be some quality, substance and weight to this little dynamo. I'm using the Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries with the radio and am looking forward to trying out the built in rechargeable feature. I really like the ability to see the station you are listening to as well as the time on the LCD display. My Optimus didn't have this feature which comes in handy when getting ready for work and listening to music. I also like that the LCD display can be lit by pressing any button. Hopefully this radio can give me 10 years also. I'll keep you posted.
Customer Review: Poor Support Summary: 2 Stars
I received this radio set it up and started using it seems like a very nice radio until, it vibrated off of a glass shelf.
I used it in bath room about 6' from the shower. It fell off the shelf and the batteries fell out and the door for the batteries feel out. The door was damaged the tab to keep it on broke. It has to be taped on now.
I sent an Email to Sangean, I wanted to buy another door. I received a response next day and it said send $6.00 for the part. So I sent it .
Next day I receive a Email saying to send the radio and $8.00 and they will fix it. (turn around time 2 or 3 weeks.
I had sent the $6.00 for the door still no word. They have not cashed the check.
So I would not give them any more sales.
Buy a Sony instead.
After waiting a month, I received the wrong part.
They can fix a problem by just putting rubber feet on the radio.
Customer Review: It's OK so far Summary: 3 Stars
This is a nice looking radio with good sound because of the size of its speaker. However its size is its major problem if it wants to be called a portable. Weighing in at over two pounds, it's not something you'll casually slip into your carry-on. I also wonder about the reliability of the buttons over time. They don't feel as solid as those of the old Sony radio it's replacing for me.
I work in a country where the power goes off regularly, sometimes for days at a time. I use it as a clock radio so I need it to wake me up every morning whether the power's on or not. The best feature for me is the rechargeable battery setting. With rechargeable batteries installed, the radio will function whether power is on or off and when power is on, the batteries are kept recharged. So far I've used it without power for a week (two hours a day) after which the battery indicator still showed a full three bars.
Customer Review: A RADIO YOU WILL USE Summary: 4 Stars
This Sangean is a clean, nice looking and well functioning digitally tuned radio. Its sound is nice for its size and purpose. Most importantly it is sensitive enough to pick up all the stations that are available. Tunes easily. The battery life is marginal, taking 500ma so at that rate your 6 good quality AA rechargeable nimh batteries will be discharged in only about four hours, but it is made acceptable by the fact that you can run it on AC with the supplied adapter and it will recharge those rechargeable batteries (not included) while you listen. Just unplug it and go when you want to listen elsewhere. It has a flashing weak battery warning. It has a choice of radio and electronic sound alarm. The price is very good for what you get. The antenna is sturdy. Digital display is large and lighted.
I wish it more than the usual 10 presets but the 10 are ok. Would definitely recommend it.
