Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sangean HDR-1 Table Top HD Radio ReceiverCustomer Review: A Great HD Radio Summary: 5 Stars
This table top radio perfectly fit my needs. The sound quality is great and the volume is sufficient for a large room. It even makes nice background music for a large party. Even the non-HD radio signals sound rich. It will not replace a 500W stereo system, so have real expectations. The telescoping antenna unscrews from the back and you can attach a roof-mounted FM antenna. I live about 60 miles SW of Chicago and this radio finally allows me to pick up my favorite stations without static. I am using a Winegard HD8200U antenna to improve reception and both were worth the money. The one con I see is that there is no battery backup to keep the clock and station presets during power outages.
Customer Review: A good night light. Summary: 3 Stars
I have been wanting to get an HD radio for some time. I decided to buy the Sandean HDR-1 to replace an alarm clock radio in our bedroom. We live in a rual area & were only able to pickup a small college HD radio station with the provided antenna. We were able to pickup many many regular FM & AM stations. Many of those stations are on the list as broadcasting in HD. The next surprise was when we went to bed. When we turned off the light we discovered that the display, set at its lowest setting, was so bright you could easly read a book with the light it provided. I decided to return the radio. On the plus side the radio looks good & the sound quality was very good.
Customer Review: Extremely Disappointed. Summary: 1 Stars
I was looking forward to getting introduced to some new music and checking out HD Radio. The problem with the radio is that it simply doesn't pull in stations. It gets only a small fraction of the stations I receive in my car. When it scans for FM stations, it comes up with 4-7. I live near San Francisco, and there are way more stations than that. I don't get NPR or my favorite jazz station, and the classical station reception is mixed. Perhaps most importantly, I checked the HD Radio website (HDRadio.com) and learned that there are at least a dozen HD Radio stations in SF. The Sangean doesn't pull in a single one! I am going to return it.
Customer Review: Sangean radio Summary: 4 Stars
The knob on the front of the radio is a little confusing to use. I use the remote all the time. I love the fact there is no bulky adapter and you can turn off the display, so when you turn it off there is no light to see at night. The reception is much better than in reviews I read. On the AM setting it doesnt diplay the RDS data. It does on the FM setting. The remote is small and has many functions. Just dont lose it.
All in all I love this radio. My last radio was the Sony HD radio and it was a really good radio but at the lowest setting the display was too bright for a bedroom.
Customer Review: does everything promised Summary: 4 Stars
i bought this because i wanted a clock radio that gets hd fm stations. the radio picks up all the local hd stations and the sound is fine for a small radio. Not the fault of the radio, there are many more stations on the internet. The manual gets you through all the programming. It is kind of like programming an old vcr. Once you get the hang of it, there's no problem. So the pluses are: it does what it says it will and does it well. The only minor issues I have are that you need to look at the display nearly head on and HD radio is limited. But i wanted an HD radio and i'm very happy with this one
