Customer Review: Solid build quality and good feature set.

This is the 3rd Sangean product that I have purchased and I'm becoming a fan of the company. The radio is a very solid and robust. The controls are easy to operate, well placed and intuitive. It has a panic alarm which I have to assume is meant for someone who may be elderly or disabled and in need of assistance if they fall in the shower. However, if the person falls and the radio is mounted high and out of reach this is a usless feature. It does have a handy emergency light on the side and I can see where that could be usefull. I've been caught in the shower a few times when the power goes out.
The sound quality is not as good as my other Sangean radios but I suspect it has something to do with the type of weather/water proof speaker they use. Don't get me wrong, the sound quality is good, in fact much better than other shower radio's that I've looked at but it's just not as good as my other Sangean radios. For this reason I had to give it 4 stars instead of 5.

This radio was all I had hoped -- good reception, good sound, nice looking, convenient controls. Only one problem, on wall installation. Radio has a fairly standard wall set-up -- plate to screw into the wall, and then the radio has prongs to insert into slots on the mounting plate. However, two-sided tape is also provided to secure the radio more firmly to the mounting plate (not sure this is really needed). I ended up letting that tape stick to the mounting plate before the radio's prongs were firmly locked into the mounting plate slots, and found it impossible get a firm lock once the tape had stuck the radio to the plate. This doesn't seem secure enough, so I'll have to pull the tape loose, scrape it off, and re-mount. Skip the tape, or be very careful to make sure the tape doesn't contact the plate before the prongs are firmly seated, and it should be no problem. Installation instructions don't warn about this. Otherwise, great radio for my purposes.Customer Review: Bought it for use outside of a shower.

My 84 Y/0 aunt needed a replacement, portable, AM / FM radio, and I stumbled upon this unit at a retail store near my house. After comparing it to offerings from Sony, Panasonic and other makes, I made the decision to purchase one.
First, the unit appears to be built in a high quality fashion. The buttons feel solid, the case rugged, and the radio performance impressive. The store where I evaluated the unit sits within a couple of hundred yards of a couple of very high power commercial radio and TV stations, and the receiver showed no evidence of desense or overload. Sensitivity was very good, picking up stations from 50 miles away. Finally, the radio was very simple to operate, such that even my technologically impaired aunt could operate the unit with only a minute of training.
Volume level wasn't the best I've ever seen, but it was perfectly adequate for most home environments.
Highly recommended.

If you are looking for a high quality FM/AM radio with rich deep sound (best in FM mode) and size is not an object, this is your unit. The Sangean shower radio is built to last and is the only radio of this kind I have ever owned that actually worked and worked quite well. I set the volume on 25 or 26 to overcome the noise of the shower and it does this with volume to spare. You can be under a spray of water and hear perfectly with this radio. For best reception, I recommend using the wire antenna for FM which is located in the battery compartment but this is not to say the unit's tuner is not strong, which it is. I bought two of these in the end; I want one as a straight portable. There is a neat little swivel handle which rotates into a secure carrying mode. A strap is also included. I really like this radio a lot - my only suggestion to Sangean is to consider adding a black colored radio since white can be a bit intense for certain applications.Customer Review: Fantastic radio for the shower

Great radio for the shower - I've had a couple radios in my bathroom over the last few years and this is far better than any of them. It gets great reception - had to fiddle a little with the antenna wire for it but I was able to get two stations on this that would not come in at all on any of the other radios I've had in there. The digital presets are very handy, the others I've had were analog dials. The display is nice and big and the handle for hanging it up on the hook is nice a sturdy and has a rubber coating along the inside to keep it from slipping around - the other radios had simple cords or ropes instead. Can't say it has big booming sound but it sounds fine to me. Can't imagine I'll be using the built in flashlight on there but who knows? Power goes out and I'll be glad it's there.
About the only down side is this radio is a tad on the big side compared to others I've had - but that's not a big deal for me.
