So far I am very pleased with this shower radio. It is pricier than many other models, but in this case you get what you pay for. I was originally sold on it by a review that said "it sounds like you have a component hi-fi in your shower" and I have to agree it really does sound that good! FM reception is excellent with the external wire antenna; I can pick up a station that's about 70 miles away, over mountains, with nearly crystal clear reception. Battery life seems to be excellent as well; it's been running on the same set of batteries for almost 2 months with daily use, and the battery indicator still shows a full charge. The station presets are a nice feature; no more searching for stations while the hot water turns cold. The light on the end is handy if the power goes out while you're in the shower. I also like the rotating hanger, which completely encloses whatever it is hanging from, providing a more secure hold than the typical hook style hangers. I did mark this radio down one star because it is kind of big, heavy, and clunky. However, it conveniently hangs from the shower curtain rod, flush with the wall so there's rarely a need to move it.Customer Review: Excellent shower radio when you install it in the right place

I purchased this radio for use in one location, the shower. We purchased the radio on January 2008, and the first set of batteries are finally wearing out, over a year and a half later (it takes two D-cell batteries).
I gave the radio five stars as it has great reception, good sound quality, it is easy to use, well designed, and is very high quality.
The only issue I have had with the radio is the grille. I had to move the radio to the far wall of the shower, as the grille would fill with water, and then I would have to blow or wipe the water out to hear the radio again. I bought some more double-sided tape and moved it, and have not had any problems since. Granted, the first location was poorly chosen, I put it righ underneath the shower head, but I do believe the grille could be designed a little better to shed water.
That criticism aside, this is an excellent radio. The double-sided tape holds it securely to the tile wall in the shower. The FM radio comes in very well, even with the antenna/handle in the stowed position. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a great radio to wake up to in the morning.

I've wanted a shower radio for years now, though no matter where I looked, I could only find ones that looked cheesy, or incredibly fragile. Most reviews on Amazon for shower radios note that, if you have an electronic device in a high humidity environment, like a shower, it won't last long. Most $30 shower radios break after a month or two.
Not this one. I've had it for over half a year now, running on the original pair of batteries I put in when I got it, and it shows absolutely no signs of wear or tear, despite the hell I've put it through. If you're in the market for a shower radio, I can not stress how incredibly satisfied I am with the purchase of this product, and for first time buyers - do not let the seemingly high price scare you off. This radio will last. Right from when you open the box, you'll feel how surprisingly heavy it is, how sturdy it is... Sangean really put their all into this product. I can't recommend it enough.
And yes, Sangean is a trusted brand to me now, and I would buy their other products without hesitation in the future. It's easily the best Amazon purchase I've made to date.

I have a rather unconventional use for the shower radio. I use it on my fishing boat. I did not think of a shower radio for the boat until I started researching battery powered radios. I did not want to go to the trouble of permanently mounting a radio in the boat. Just something to listen to occasionally to break the monotony while fishing. So far it works great. About the only thing that is a little trouble is the wire used for the FM radio antenna. I just keep it wrapped around the top of the radio. This radio replaces an old portable radio I was using that bit the dust. Since this one is basically water proof/resistant, I expect it to last a long time.
It has wonderful tone and the sound carries very well even though the speaker is pretty small. I am really enjoying the radio. I have had it for about 3 weeks so I don't know how the batteries will do. It is not a big issue for me since I will only use it a few hours each week. The tone is so good; I use the radio in the garage while piddling around. I am really enjoying the radio. I expect to purchase more Sangean radios in the future.

I have no idea why Saegean stopped making this radio. I have had one for about 8 years and love it. I keep it in the shower and use it in the morning to listen to the news while getting ready for work. The box says it floats, but I have never put it in water, just used in the shower and taken it onto wet grass. I finally bought another one because I sometimes had to hunt around the house to see where I left it last. I use it in the garden and around the yard and in other rooms of the house that don't have radios. The battery life is incredible. It seems like the batteries last for a couple of years....a long time anyway. The handle makes it easy to hang on hooks and to carry around. The handle is moveable and can be folded away into the back of the unit. This also allows you to open the handle and slip it around a bar for hanging. I think the sound it great from this radio. It is a portable radio so we're not taking Bose quality, but it's as good as my car radio. I have absolutely no complaints with this radio. Well, maybe that I might not be able to find another one in the future.
