Customer Review: HD Radio is a big disappointment!

If you can tell the difference between an MP3 and a CD then DO NOT buy an HD Radio tuner. Use the money to improve your analog radio reception; a Magnum Dynalab ST-2 antenna is about $100.
The Sangean does what it is supposed to: deliver a compressed, lossy data stream at 192 kbps. CD bitrate is 1411 kbps. This product, like all HD tuners achieves its quiet, "black" background by omitting all audible material above 10,000 Hz. Your speakers can deliver and hopefully your ears should still hear up to 20,000 Hz.

This is great. I had been interested in HD radio for several years but until now it seemed my only choices were a stand-alone radio like a clock radio or something for the car stereo. This device actually hooks up to your home entertainment system and uses your system's speakers and amplifier. Depending on where you live there are numerous stations available that are between the normal radio stations. Many of them without commercials and with different programming than the regular channels and all free.Customer Review: HD Tuner

The tuner works fine once I hooked it up to a good antenna. I'm using an old TV antenna on my roof which works great. I tried the antenna included with the tuner but wasn't able to pull in many stations. My main complaints are, once you set the clock it disapears. I'm not sure if this is suppose to happen but it does. Also when the tuner is off, a bright red light is on. I covered it with a piece of electrical tape. I would recomend this product if you're trying to tune in HD stations.Customer Review: Failed in one week

After I received the HD tuner and installed into my system the Radio would stop working after 20 minutes and then it would not turn on.
I did return the unit for a refund and will now shop locally for a replacement.
Amazon says it will take up to 4 weeks for an exchange unit. I now think it is better to shop a local store were you can take a unit back and receive an exchange on the same day,

In a word: GREAT! From using it about amonth it appears to be an excellent piece of equipment. Its sensitivity is very good and its memory system is good. While our area has obly a few HD stations now, more are promised. The audio quality on all of them is excellent. (I have 40 years in broadcast work and 50 years as a hham.)The supplier it was purchased from gave excellent service too. Good job! Doc.
