Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sandisk ImageMate 5-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader SDDR-99Customer Review: Works great: And, at under $20 the Sandisk SDDR-99 ImageMate 5-in-1 Reader/Writer is a bargain. Summary: 5 Stars
For basic file transfers, you simply insert your card into the device, plug the device into your computer's USB port, then press the device's transfer button. But here's an ALTERNATE transfer method that offers more flexibility: Stick your memory card in the slot, plug the device into your USB port, click the "My Computer" icon on your Windows screen, and suddenly the icon appears for "your card" where you can now drag and drop files onto the card, to and from your hard drive.
I use the device for quickly transferring my mp3 files onto my SD card: I then insert the card in my Palm Tungsten E2 PDA for playing my music on the go.
Customer Review: Unit works great, software hogs resources Summary: 4 Stars
The unit itself works great. Much faster transfers than using the usb cable directly to my camera. However, the software includes a "monitoring" feature, which checks every second or so, to see if you've plugged in a card. I opened up Windows Task Manager to discover that, each time it checked, it was consuming 25% of system resources (on/off each second). No wonder my computer has been slower lately, especially if I have my image editing software open (duh).
My recommendation would be to skip the San Disk software and access the card reader directly from My Computer, as mentioned in another review below.
Customer Review: Works like it should Summary: 4 Stars
I needed an inexpensive, yet reliable, SD flash card reader for my Sansa player and digital photo frame. I was toying with the idea of installing a 3.5" multi-format reader in my computer but most of the reviews here and elsewhere were very mixed. I've had good experience with Sandisk products to date so I decided on this unit. I don't bother installing the software for these types of devices. I just let Windows XP find it as a removable drive. So far it has worked just like a USB thumb drive. I also like that the SD card sticks out about 1/2" so there are no buttons to push or break. Thanks Sandisk and Amazon.
Customer Review: Wonderful little item!! Summary: 5 Stars
I just bought this along with my new Kodak camera and I wouldn't want to be without it. I didn't want to have to install the software that was included with my camera so this card reader was just what the Dr ordered. I just got the card reader, plugged the USB cable into my computer and it was instantly recognized and installed. No need to install the (included software) unless you choose to. Then I took a bunch of pics with my camera, pulled out the SD card, slipped it into the reader and that was it. Child's play! It even reads several different card types. This card reader is well worth the money.
Customer Review: Easy little device... Summary: 4 Stars
I just got this today in the mail, and was downloading pictures from my photocard within 10 minutes of opening the package.
I lost the connector cable between my camera and the computer, and bought this so I could tranfer the pictures off my photocard.
It isn't completely idiot proof. Just make sure you put in the disk and follow the directions to download the button application. I did, then plugged in the device, and copied the pictures on to my picture drive. Transferring a 256MB card (full) seemed to take less than a minute. I like it, and would recommend it!
