Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sandisk Extreme USB 2.0 3in1 Card Reader (SDDRX3-3IN1-901, US Retail Package)Customer Review: Great performance, wish it had built-in connector Summary: 4 Stars
The performance is awesome - WAY faster than the built-in card reader that came with my PC. I use SanDisk Extreme III SD cards for my digital camera, and this reader definitely takes full advantage of the USB 2.0 interface and my SD cards' throughput capabilities.
My only complaint is that you have to plug in a a mini-USB to USB cable (comes with the reader). I like to travel as compactly as possible, and I'd prefer to have a connector built into this.
Customer Review: Not all readers are created equal.. Summary: 5 Stars
This card reader is really amazing. It sucks 600MB of images out of my Extreme III in less than 3 minutes. Of course, there are many variables (you computer, what kind of disk drive, how much memory..). But in my set up, the same 600MB took 25 minutes before with another cheapo reader. My laptop has a SD reader built-in, and this reader even beat that. Reading 120MB of jpegs was reduced to 5 seconds from 2 minutes. Buy it. You will wonder why you didn't.
Customer Review: Fast reader, doesn't freeze Mac Summary: 5 Stars
I switched from PC to Mac a year ago. At the time I had a Zio 6-in-1 reader. When connected to the Mac, even with no cards inside, it would create "kernel panics" quite frequently and crash the machine. So I tried another brand, the same thing happened. For some reason the Mac could not deal with the hardware. This is card reader #3 and it finally stopped the crashing. In addition, it is a lot faster than my previous readers. Great little device!
Customer Review: Works Good, Looks Good, Fast and Simple . . . Summary: 5 Stars
I use one of these to download digital images from both CF and SF format cards. It is simple, small, good looking and FAST !!!
The cable will disconnect from the back of the unit, which makes it easier to remove or re-route the cable. The only gripe I have is that the cable is too short at only about one meter. A two or three meter cable would be much better. I had to purchase a separate USB 2.0 extension cable to use with this.
Customer Review: poorly made connection failed in a week Summary: 1 Stars
The connection junction on the back end of this thing went out on me after about a week's worth of light use. You know, one of those mass produced parts from China that gives out prematurely. I'd have to hold the USB connection a certain way as to get it to work at all. It finally just stopped working. I probably got a dud.
Does anyone make consumer electronics out of quality fasteners and components anymore? I guess not.
