Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sandisk Extreme USB 2.0 3in1 Card Reader (SDDRX3-3IN1-901, US Retail Package)Customer Review: Fast and Simple Summary: 4 Stars
Great little product- accepts compact flash and SD - the two standards (so to speak) uses a standard USB cable on the back (probably same kind that came with your camera) So far it has worked flawlessly- been using it for about a month. Much better than wearing down your camera battery offloading photos and faster too. Only 4 stars because I feel it should be a little cheaper and I worry about the long term lifespan of the usb port on the back.
TIP: Always put the card back in the camera as soon as you are done downloading photos AND format the card in the camera when you put it back in, do not erase the images- much more likely to get card errors when just erase the images.
Customer Review: Fast, but flawed. Summary: 4 Stars
This card reader is very fast - especially with Sandisk cards. I tried using this reader with a USB cable I already had on my computer (for my iAudio U2) and the drive would suddenly not be recognized in the middle of transferring photos, causing the photo it was currently transferring to be corrupted with no way to restore it.
After a couple times of that, I started copying instead of moving the files to my drive, and then decided to plug in the provided cable - problem solved.
If you buy this card reader, you'll want to use the supplied cable, or at least test the reader with your preexisting cable, to ensure you don't lose value data in the transfer process.
Customer Review: Great card reader for the price, better than firewire reader Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good buy. It's plenty fast enough when you plug it into a USB 2.0 slot. A lot of people don't plug it into an actual USB 2.0 slot and will then just get normal slower USB transfer speeds. But when using USB 2.0, it's very fast, about as fast as firewire actually.
And this card reader is better than the Firewire model because it also includes a slot for SD, MMC and Memory Stick Pro Duo in addition to CF cards. The Firewire model only has a CF slot. Also, the chances of other computers that you might want to transfer your images onto of having USB are much greater than with Firewire.
Lastly, this card reader is a lot cheaper than the Firewire model.
Customer Review: Small, fast, and reliable Summary: 5 Stars
I used to have a CF card reader that slid into a PCMCIA slot on a Powerbook but I had to look for a new solution after i bought my MacBook Pro which has a smaller express slot instead. This is exactly what i was looking for. it doesn't support ALL types of memory cards know to mankind and i really don't need it to. for that reason, it comes in a small package that is easy to pack away in my bag. When importing RAW images, it performs much better than connecting directly to the camera (not to mention saving battery life of the camera). It also accommodates SD cards for my smaller p&s camera. simple, fast, and reliable. I haven't had any trouble with it. i recommend it.
Customer Review: Fast, compact, and rather handsome too Summary: 5 Stars
Not much to say, but this is definitely a very nice CompactFlash and SD reader (I don't use any variant of Memory Stick). The speed is blazing, with RAW and JPG files blitzing along almost instantly, and unlike so many other models out there, it isn't from some unknown manufacturer and it doesn't try to read a gazillion formats (who the heck uses Smart Media anymore anyway?). Really, if Sandisk made a slow reader, they'd lose a heck of a lot of business selling flash, so they're bound to do a better job than some fly by night outfit you've never heard of, and I value my pictures way too much to ruin them on a cheap $10 reader when a $20 reader is so much better.
