Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sandisk 8GB Cruzer Titanium USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ7-8192-A11, Retail Package)

Customer Review: Not what they used to be.
Summary: 1 Stars

Pros: Metal shell has definite cool factor.
Cons: As slow as drives that are half the price.

When I received the unit, I tested it with the ATTO benchmark test to see if it was as fast as the 4GB Titanium I purchased a couple of years ago. It was not even close.

On small files (.5k) the original would write 450 kB/second, this one wrote at 47 kB/second. (1/10th the speed of the original)
On 4k files the original would write 3.385 MB/second, this one .262 MB/second. (1/13th the speed of the original)
It wasn't until I reached 128k files that the two leveled out at 10+ MB/second write speeds.
The small file write speeds were on par with the non-titanium 8GB cruzer I tested which is less than half the price. If you are using it to copy large photo and video files you will be reasonably happy with it. If you use to transfer a large number of small files like word and excel files, driver files, non-zipped program files, etc. you will find it apallingly slow. Considerably faster models can be had for about 60% of what this one cost. They just don't have the cool factor.

I purchased this unit from Blue Proton through Amazon. Why it performs at nearly the same level as the non-titanium version and no where near the level of the previous titanium model, I really can't say. (But I have my suspicions due to painting anomalies on the metal casing)

Customer Review: Sandisk 8GB Cruzer Titanium Flash Drive Review
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a number of Sandisk Flash Drives this one having the larges capacity, 8GB Sandisk 8GB Cruzer Titanium USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ7-8192-A11, Retail Package). I use this drive for maintaining financial data, Church e-mail traffic (a lot of e-mail messages), Church Membership Roster, and other miscellaneous information from my church. Anyone that uses a flash drive knows that one of its greatest features is portability. For example, I can record financial data at church, then take it home and use Excel to manipulate the data into financial reports and take them back to church.

I purchased the Titanium drive because it adds physical security to the drive. I've already managed to drop and step on the drive with no ill effects.

Why Sandisk? Brand loyalty more than any thing else I guess. I have other brands but I like the size of the Sandisk Flash Drives and the retractable USB connector. Amazon prices (this includes prices from Amazon Featured Merchants) make them competitive with brands having similar features.

As I need additional flash drives I will buy Sandisk Flash Drives with appropriate capacity for the task at hand. If you are looking for a flash drive, check out Sandisk before you buy.

Customer Review: Had for a year and am amazed
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Titanium 8GB a little over a year ago, and I have always loved the speed of it and the nice finish that the titanium creates. Also it really has stood up to abuse well. I made the mistake of telling an immature friend that it was indestructible, so he took it and threw it as hard as he could against a tile floor, (I was standing in shock of what just happened to my new product), and he picked it up and did it again. Now, it did scratch the surface slightly, but the drive itself was perfect, and the scratches weren't bad at all. So I was really pleased. What inspired me to write a review now, is that just recently it went through the washing machine and dryer on accident. Really almost no electronics could survive this nowadays, I mean the hard drive isn't even water tight or anything; but I plugged it into the computer and hoped for the best, and it was like nothing had ever happened. It really amazed me that this thing has lasted the way it did for me. I would have gone through 3-4 conventional flash drives if it weren't for this one. But I also got it for $29.00 here on Amazon. not $40. So I will say that for $30, absolutely worth it; the product is amazing. But for $40; well it all depends how much you need your memory to be safe. I mean it is only a flash drive.

Customer Review: Nice but not perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

I recently bought the 8gb Titanium Cruzer on Amazon after reading the warning on ebay that most of their larger flash drives are dysfunctional counterfeits. I bought my first flash drive on ebay from a Chinese vendor a couple of years ago. After a few uses it started smoking, got too hot to touch, and almost burned up a friend's Mac. I would therefor suggest buying only name brand memory. I would also buy only from legitimate vendors because there are counterfeit Cruzers out there. The new Titanium Cruzer from Amazon was recognized easily by my computer but three issues stand out. First, the lanyard attachment ring is small but at least it is metal; I was always nervous about the plastic ring breaking on my older drive. Second, I was disappointed that the USB connector is not protected from dirt and lint when it is retracted; it just slides up into the open sleeve. Finally - and I know this is picky - but the blue power light is so bright, and the strobing and flashing such a distraction, that I remove the drive from my USB port when it is not in use. I wish the light could be reprogrammed. Instead, I will probably resort to the old VCR trick and put a piece of tape over it.

Customer Review: Best drives ever made!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Hi All,

I have owned Sandisk Cruzer Titaniums ever since they were released a few years back. They are hands down the most well built and stable drives available in the market place today.

My only issue - and its not too hard to avoid - is that all of these drives come with the U3 software. For those that dont know...U3 is some sort of free software for managing backups and synchronization onto the drive. It is decent software....but when left on the drive it comes up on every computer you insert the drive into. Basically asking you to install it...you can opt-out. U3 does offer a way to remove the software completely off of the drive and thus it never bothers you again.

I have used these drives on mac's and pc's alike with 0 issues. The only time I have had one go bad on me was when it fell out of my pocket and incidentally a UPS fell on top of it. The ups was heavy and destroyed the drive. :-) Other then that these are stable. I still have an original 1gb Titanium drive that has been used so much that its scratched up pretty bad...but to this day works 100%.

Great product.
