Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sandisk 4 GB Extreme SDHC CardCustomer Review: San Disk 4 GB Extreme III Card is the Bomb, Thanks Blue Proton Summary: 5 Stars
I needed a memory card for my 12 yr old Daughter's Canon 12.1 MP Powershot that I picked her up for Christmas. I checked out SDHC cards at Costco and saw this same card selling for fifty bucks. Even the 4gb Ultra 2s was 22 dollars.
When I saw that Blue Proton had the Xtreme III for this price and threw in a USB card reader on top of that I had to read the reviews. After seeing so many good reviews I decided to give them a try.
I figured Paying with Paypal and through Amazon gave me at least some protection against an inferior product, right?
Well no such problem. As mentioned in some other reviews the Card came without the retail blister pack but rather in the plastic case which we'd use for storage or a spare card. That works for me, less to throw out.
Anyway I don't know if it was used or not, I could not tell, the card was in that good of a condition.
Gave the card to my daughter and she loaded into her new camera and .... ROOM for 1265 Pictures! That should keep her busy for a while.
I made her take a picture to make sure the card could read and write and download it to her PC. She took several pictures opened her USB card reader and plugged into her Laptop.
She downloaded the pictures with no instruction from me, no problem, no USB chord, no Canon software needed either. I noticed she wasted no time squirreling the reader away in her camera case.
So with room for over 12 hundred 12 MB pictures, super fast write time and a free USB card reader to boot, why anyone would want to burn an extra 35 bucks at a retail store!
My only recommendation is if you need it in a hurry pay for the overnight or 2 day shipping.
Customer Review: Fastest perfromance at lowest cost Summary: 5 Stars
Forget the complaints about the extra shipping for the "free" BlueProton reader, this is an excellent deal. Fastest performance at the lowest price. It also arrived very quickly (ordered Friday, arrived Monday).
I have a Nikon Coolpix S600 and selected the Sandisk 4GB Extreme III SDHC because of its speed and price. Since I had an older 1GB SD card with an older USB card reader, I also needed a new SDHC card reader. I ordered the combo with the "free" Blue Proton SDHC card reader (you pay a flat shipping fee for *each* product even though it's in the same package - which is spelled out clearly in the BlueProto shipping details). The total price for both was less than $28 including the extra shipping. Considering other sites sell the card for more than this, it's still a great deal.
The card can store data as fast as my camera can generate it, and I can store about 45min of TV ("high") quality video, or 1378 10Mpixel images. The camera's battery must be recharged before the card gets full.
The card came in a clear unmarked plastic snap-case, not loose in a static bag, and appears to be brand new. The reader came in a retail package with clear installation and use instructions.
The BlueProton card reader is small and simple to use. It self-installed on both our Windows and MacOS machines, and transfers data about as fast as a laptop hard drive.
Customer Review: Great card for the price with my D3100 Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for a good class 6 card at a reasonable price to use with my D3100. Since the camera buffer and not the card determine the write speed for stills, I didn't want to spend a fortune for nothing. I did however want a class 6 card, because that is what is recommended by Nikon for shooting video, even though I don't anticipate shooting much video.
My 20ms 4GB card came from Digital Media Source through Amazon, and arrived promptly before the promised date. It arrived in a snap case, enclosed in a small paper envelope, all in a cardboard mailer.
The card was brand new, the real deal, and works perfectly. I was also able to register it with Sandisk without issue.
I formatted the card in the camera (very important), and as expected for still shots, it preforms pretty much the same as a standard card. I can however transfer the files to my PC at a noticeably faster rate than with a standard card, not sure how much faster the 30ms version would work in the real world? I also tried it for shooting a continuous ten minute 1080 video (10 min is the max continuous on a D3100) and it worked without issue.
Very happy with the product so far, only time will tell on reliability, but with Sandisk reliability is seldom an issue.
Customer Review: SanDisk 4GB Extreme III - does exactly what it's supposed to! Summary: 4 Stars
I resisted the temptation to buy an SD card from one of the many cheaper brands because of poor reviews - it seems that different manufacturers have different concepts of 20MB/s. And I've been using my trusty 2GB Sandisk Extreme III card without a single glitch for a couple of years now in my Canon EOS 450D.
So far, and I've only taken about a couple of hundred shots on this card, it has performed flawlessly. Yes, if I want to shoot continuously in RAW at about 6fps, it's going to slow down a bit after 10 or so shots. But I have never been in a situation where I need to shoot a burst for more than about a second or two. And I do almost always shoot in RAW.
So for my needs, it fits the bill perfectly. And it was a bargain at $15.90 including postage. Yes, I WAS tempted to splash out the extra on a faster or bigger card, but as I mentioned before, I really don't need that extra speed, and even though my old 2GB SanDisk card has always performed perfectly, I still worry that filling, say, a 16GB card full of precious memories before offloading them is kinda risky - that's a lot of shots to lose if the card DOES decide to fall over.
Customer Review: Card failed on two cameras at first Summary: 3 Stars
For some reason this card failed in a Canon T1i and a Panasonic FZ50 when it first arrived. I was able to get 3 or 4 shots and then the card would not work further. The pictures taken prior to failure were on the card and could be downloaded. The Panasonic could do an in camera format of the card while the Canon could not. I tried doing a quick format on the card in Windows with no further success as I could still only shoot 3-4 pictures before writing to the card failed. I sent a product complaint to Blue Proton and have never heard from them (about 1 month now). Not to be deterred, I did a full format of the card in Windows and the problem has been solved. The card now works as expected. It is unfortunate that I need to go these lengths to have this card work as it should. I still don't trust the card for use in the field yet and currently only use it for table top and still life photography since I can easily repeat photos if the card goes bad on me. I hope to gain more confidence so that I can take advantage of the card's speed for in the field work.
