Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sandisk 2GB Compactflash Card Type I (SDCFB-2048-A10, Retail Package)

Customer Review: How many pictures will it store?
Summary: 5 Stars

How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The Sandisk 2GB Compactflash Card Type I, like most 2000MB cards, will store on average 2275 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 1706 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 1024 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 819 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 640 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

One last thing to consider when buying a 2000MB card. Do not necessarily choose the least expensive card available. A 2000MB card should be an investment. You need to consider quality, reliability, and speed with a card of this capacity. Worse case scenario would be you taking this card (and only this card) on vacation with you overseas and for some reason it gets corrupted. Then what do you do? Purchasing a high capacity card changes the game a little, just be mindful of that before you hit the buy button.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

Customer Review: PC Adapter plus 2GB FlashCard
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a PC Card slot within my 2007 Honda CR-V.

I bought this combo package (2GB SanDisk plus PC Adapter) which is being offered here at Amazon in order to transfer MP3 music files from my computer onto this particular compact flash drive. I also bought a related (12 in one) compactflash read/writer made by Sandisk from my local Staples store.

I slipped in this particular compact flash card into the Sandisk read/writer and I was able to transfer the MP3 files to this CF disk. I then put the compact flash card/disk into the PC Adapter (which is part of this combo buy) and then slipped it into the PC card slot within my Honda CR-V.

The results are it works great.

And based upon my reviewing other products you need to understand that these PC Card slots for the Honda vehicles need very specific Compact flash cards and PC Adapters.

You also need to make sure the PC Card Adapter is compatible with the Compact Flash Disk. For example, a 4.0GB Sandisk may not work with certain PC Adapters. This combo buy (PC Card Adapter and related 2GB CF disk) does work.

And the thing is you can try finding these two particular products in stores (like Staples, Officemax or Circuit City etc.) but you are not going to find it because these stores do not tend sell the PC Adapters and these stores also like to sell the Ultra I or II etc (black colored) compact flash disks made by Sandisk also. And from what I have reviewed these Ultra Sandisks and the Ultra PC Adapter mostly likely won't work in the Honda PC Card slot.

But this 2GB Sandisk and related PC Card Adapter does work in the PC Card slot for the Honda CR-V.

Customer Review: I lost a full day of photos
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this large card so that I would not have to take my computer and download images every day during a recent trip to Rome. As it turned out, I did take the computer anyway -- and I am glad I did. I used this card for the first day, and everything seemed to be working fine. But when I downloaded the images, all of the files were corrupted. I put this card back into the camera. At first, I it looked like I could review the images on camera (so suspected a download/software issue), but then even the camera told me that the files were bad. A whole day's worth of photos were gone! So I switched to my older (and field tested) cards (128, 512, and 1g), and had no problems at all. I have used SanDisk cards before and have never had a problem, so this must be a fluke. I need to contact Amazon to see if I can return it. (But of course, I had to cut it out of the plastic package -- which I then threw away before I left on the trip. Will Amazon even let me return it? Advice: Save all packing materials, even if you have to destroy them to get the product. And have a back-up.). Final word: this 2g card did not work for me.

Customer Review: Make sure you format before using
Summary: 4 Stars

Purchased this card, used it in my Digital Camera and it worked great for a few months. Suddenly the camera stopped reading this card. The camera would read other cards but not this one. Even those 5-in-1 readers installed on PC/Laptops would not read the card. I had sync'd up all the images in my PC earlier so I was not worried about the content but you can imagine - if you have just returned from a memorable vacation and if this happened, you could have lost all your picture-memories!

I researched and found that most of the card problems go away if you format it again. So I formatted the card through my camera and then it started working fine. I don't remember I formatted it when I started using this card. Lesson Learned: Before using in your digital camera, format through the camera!

Customer Review: Is It Worth Buying
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been using 3 - 128mb, 1 -256mb, and 1 -8mb card with my 2.1 megapixel camera. That got me about 648 photos which has been great for vacations, etc. With the purchase of a new 7 megapixel camera, I found that my photo storage dropped to about 202 photos which was definitely not enough. With the 2gb card, I can take a minimum of 650 photos without changing cards. With my existing cards, that totals at about 850 photos. That number goes up if I use my macro or supermacro settings (they drop the image size to the medium setting). I have had no problems with any of my compact flash cards (all of them being sandisk), all have worked consistently and without issue.
