Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of SanDisk Sansa m240 1 GB MP3 Player (Silver)Customer Review: Very Happy Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using a CD/MP3 player for travel for some time, and finally decided to take the plunge and try a flash-MP3 player. After reading some of the reviews and because of the price, this seemed to be the one.
I am so far very pleased with this player. Some of the reviews about playlists and download difficulty made me nervous, but I use MS Media Player and can tailor the music "Genre", which is a play option on the player. I can therefore play my classical or `new age' or rock simply by selecting the genre on the player. No need for the included CD when using MS Media Player . . . The Sandisk was recognized automatically using the `synch' feature. I guess the only feature I don't like is the fact that I can't (or haven't figured out how to) delete songs without using a `puter interface . . .
I use noise reducing headphones (a lot of time on airplanes), and I was initially disappointed by the volume. However, using the built-in 5-channel equalizer on the player, I was able to really kick up the volume by adjusting the equalizer. The included earbuds are comfortable and work well in quite environments, but don't work well with loud background noise. I've got a set of Koss "Spark-Plugs" coming to me, so I'll see if I can go totally minimalist and use the Koss + Sandisk on the airplane and leave the headphones behind as well.
10/3 - Just taken an airplane ride using the Koss Spark Plugs. Save your money on noise-reducing equipment, buy the Koss (or similar) earbuds. Except for the pauses between tunes, I heard no background noise! Very pleased with the set-up
Customer Review: how's it work-this ain't no KISS thing Summary: 1 Stars
first i have never had an mp3 player before, the best of the genre' would be a cassette recorder with fm.
so we get the tiny tiny thing and the instructon book is near to a useful as saran wrap at hiding one's body. ok dumb but you get the point.
the cd disk that came with it will NOT load onto the computer, in fact it freezes the cd draw and i have had to manually open the drawer with a paper clip.
so no help there on instructions.
it took five days to finally figure out how to set fm stations. it was easy to make a voice recording but again those five days to figure out how to erase voice recordings.
and, i have yet to get cd music onto the thing.
had i mentioned tiny, with teeny tiny buttons and a screen that is so hard to read, especially when the blue backlight goes off.
the sound quality is pretty good, being in the country fm stations normally had on our radio do not come in on this sansa, i guess a weak front end tuner. for city life with nearby fm stations there would be little issue.
i guess i will like it when it is all figured out.
so my 1 star is mostly based on not having the info at hand to devine how to use it. customer service was friendly but inept on how to handle this, no offer of a better instruction book.
tsk tsk, for all mfrs to sell complicated devices with only bare instructions, what the heck could be the cost, esp considering ticking people off and getting bad reviews. just seems better if they would have consideration up front and be thorough.
Customer Review: Great for the Non-Techie Who's Outdated Too Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first ever MP3 player which I bought so I can have some music while I exercise. I've been online almost a decade and in my 30's. I don't own a cell phone, and I just upgraded to Win XP in 2007.
Where I'm not a complete idiot in the world of technology, I'm a good many steps behind the latest, best, and most expensive equipment / software. With all this in mind, I was very impressed with this MP3 player. Directions would have been nice, but once I rebooted the computer and plugged it in again so the PC would recognize that the player was attached, putting the songs in was extremely easy. If you can deal with any basic digital camera, you can use this. It opens up folders and you simply drag and drop your music into the folders. From there, it stores them on your player. The menus can be accessed by playing with the buttons and it didn't take me but a few minutes to check to be sure it was working with the FM radio.
The sound was really impressive to me. Remember I'm behind and have never been plugged into an IPod so I could be easily impressed. However, I thought it sounded great.
I don't like the ear buds, but the sound actually seemed fine in them. My reason for disliking them is purely personal that ear buds in general don't fit in my ears quite right. I take my chances with the outdated style earphones, and the player took them just fine in replacement.
All in all for a first MP3 player and a cheap way to tote music for exercise or to do what I did and join the 20th century (not a typo) then I suggest giving it a try.
Customer Review: Not a good MP3 player Summary: 2 Stars
Okay first off when my 512 MB SanDisk MP3 player broke I then returned and saw this Sansa SanDisk 1 GB for a sweet deal of $59.99 the same price for the 512 MB(this was 1 year ago) So I then decided to get this Sansa Sandisk m240 1 GB silver so then i bought this and got home and loaded it up with 436 songs and as I was listening to this I thought it was a great MP3 player the sound was great and everything till after a week then the troubles happened. So then I turned this on one day and their was no sound at all(i checked the headphones they worked fine on my stereo) so then i kept trying to get the sound back nothing did it i tried everything i tried connecting to the computer no good using new heaphones no good nothing worked so then i looke up this on their website none of the posts helped at all, and then i called their number to ask how to fix it so then the person i was talking to i could hardly not understand what he said but he said for me to try to listen to the FM radio so i tried that doubting it would work and i was right it didnt work so bassicly i then returned this and got a C240 1 GB MP3 player that now the headphone jack fails and i have to plug the headphones in funny to get sound on both sides but now i have gotten a apple iPod 3rd Gen. Nano the new video ones no more Sandisk for me. I say if you want Sansa go for the 4 GB Video one or go for the c240 2GB for only 50 bucks or the one i got for the same price as this color screen everything or just get an iPod or anything whatever bad buy bad bad bad the only reason i rated it 2 stars was how much i liked it at first
Customer Review: Great Little MP3 Player - Must Have for Rhapsody ToGo Summary: 5 Stars
This little charmer is priced the same as the iPod shuffle but delivers full MP3 capabilities and FM radio capabilities at only a slightly larger form factor. The big sell is that it works with subscription services like Rhapsody and Audible, which was the clincher for me.
I plugged my m240 into the USB port and Rhapsody picked it up immediately - no futzing with settings or installing software. I was transfering music in just minutes with no configuration at all. Please note, though, that I signed up for the Rhapsody ToGo service before plugging it in. ($15/month) I use Rhapsody at work all day and love the whole "juke box in the sky" concept where you can basically listen to any artist you want at any time for a monthly fee. Now that I can take it with me in this compact little package, I am totally happy. It should work with any of the Microsoft "Plays for Sure/Subscription" logo services.
The display and controls are nothing special, but for under $100, you get a full 1GB of storage. It's perfect for the gym too, as it includes an elastic armband thingy. The earbuds are below standard but usable. Haven't used the voice recorder. The FM transmitter is what you'd expect too. It takes 1 AAA battery which lasts for many hours. I have used mine for at least 2 already and the battery indicator is still maxed out.
Please note, if you buy your music from iTunes, stick with the iPod devices. The Apple DRM and music format don't work on this player.
All in all, this is a great value and absolute must for subscription music lovers.
